Whatever happened to Grisby and Beutel? When I moved away in 1985, I think they were still on the air. What's amazing is that Chuck Scarborough and Sue "What the fuck are you doing" Simmons are still on the air at channel 4!
Frank Gifford did double duty as sportscaster for Eyewitness News and ABC Sports, namely NFL's "Monday Night Football" w/ the late veterans Howard Cosell and "Dandy" Don Meredith.
Did anybody else see Roger and Bill walking down that New York street and think Roger was Oscar Madison and Bill was Felix Unger? Because I got an "Odd Couple" vibe from that clip, and it was the same era that the show was on Channel 7!
The current "Eyewitness News" promos, even though they're now produced on tape, still stress that "your buddies and the news" attitude, only now the faces and personalites seem more "plastic" than ever. The announcer in the second promo is character actor Eddie Barth...
Thank you SO MUCH for posting these spots. I remember each one of them so vividly that I find myself reciting the dialogue as I'm watching them -- even though I haven't seen all but one of them in more than 35 years. Roger, Bill and Tex are all gone now, but I'm delighted to see their memories kept alive here, in this, the cleverest set of local TV news promos ever made. Thank you again.
Great to see those guys again. I was first starting out in news when these guys owned NY. Back then Geraldo called himself Jerry Riviera. Tex gave the best wx. Tnx for the vid.
These clips are so rare and unusual,I enjoyed the one of Beutel and Grimsby walking the streets, being themselves and being recognized.Question in the second clip, at the dance who is Jim standing to the left of Mr. Rivera?
These videos appear to be from 1972. It was after '71 that: a) Melba Tolliver started wearing an Afro, and b) Frank Gifford joined ABC and did sports for "EWN" in-between football seasons.

Wonder what Howard Cosell, Don Meredith, and Roone Arledge are thinking about the second clip.
