At first the only reason it might have looked weird is because of the show they had problems with writting for a gay couple but after the kissing ban lifted the kisses were amazing and trust me Van and Jake are not uncomfortable their best friends in real life an they are soooo close. Everything they do is so natural because all their touches were unscripted and they decided how to do the kisses.

SPOILERS: later on both guys meet in real life and there's some sort of tension between them but nothing happens. The way I see it, William is fixated on getting the other boy to kill himself so he seduces him in every way he can.
