  • That Was Beautiful.

  • Goddamn, she used to be great!

  • cool and good

  • sooooo symphatic

    she is amaze

    unique

  • She is so wonderful. I'm 19 years old and I'm glad I was able to learn who Liza Minnelli is even though many of my friends have no idea who she is. I'm young but I recognize this woman is a legend.

  • fantastic just had the pleasure to see her live in the royal Albert hall London, SIX encores!!!

  • @phalaxii I love London (and UK) AND Liza Minnelli--its like wow, I lived during her peak years--and I still have ...my memories. (short term too lololo)

  • Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • six people have no taste.

  • Espectacular. Forever this Diva.

  • Have seen Liza sing this live. She is fabulous!

  • God she had fabulas boops when she was plump!

  • wow

  • The Mark Almond version is fantastic.

  • My god... Is she wearing an obturator for her palate??? She sounds very 'shhhh' in s, sh and t sounds... just wondering. Wonderful singer, always a big fan of her voice but now I've identified those sounds and wondering what's going on

  • @contemporatango TTShhhheee just needs sum Corffee!

  • Liza is OK but Charles does it better. What makes a man a man should be sung by a man.Beside he wrote it along with She,Yesterday, all of these songs were done on his album (331/3) Tapestry Of Dreams ect,ect I understand he developed his style of singing after The Great Edith Piaf singing Plus Bleu Que

  • i LOVE how theatrical she is !

  • Shes almost a spitting image of Judy

  • @MusikJunkie010 she sounds and laughs a lot like Judy, and sings like her. She only slightly resembles in looks i believe :)

  • amazing....

  • It's Liza fuckin Minelli

  • The best part about this performance--this song-- is that has a story, a story that Liza Minnelli brillantly, and surprisingly, told in a perfect venue to do so.

  • I was watching Glee the other day and now that I think of it...this performance by Liza...well now THAT is Theatricality!

    She made me cry....

  • wow!!!!!! i cryed like a baby with this song, and interpretation by liza!!! i love her!!

  • \z\z\

  • great!!!!

  • Truly Awesome an original warrior representing me and she has my applause.

  • Liza- лучшая.

  • fab!!!

  • 2:34 very well said. Liza gives an excellent speech here.

  • On dira ce que l'on voudra sur la justesse de la tonalité qui, peut être, n'est pas juste, MAIS, cherchez un interprétation aussi sensible, aussi JUSTE dans l'émotion et on pourra dire qu'elle a manquée cette chanson.

  • GO LIZA!

  • a one of a kind. always a joy to watch her.

  • Liz'a's a wonderful performer- I'll be the first to admit that. However, she shouldn't have attempted this. Charles Aznavour did a great job. With Liza it was just ....strange. Didn't make sense.

  • she has her mothers gift of being able to infuse her songs with such powerful emotion -and makes them believable. Her version of this and quiet love are just perfection. Go Liza!

  • Liza was and still is that wonderfull, loving person and i just love it when she performs. Liza is awesome !

  • It's a wonderful interpretation.

But why does it sound sometimes out of tune ? it's like the piano is playing something else than accompanying the singer

  • wonderful

    wonderful

  • Powerful song . And it captures perfectly the unique beauty of her voice and her way with lyrics that is so communicative and perceptive. Its so beautiful and deep.

  • Liza could never do wrong, look who her Mother was/is the amazing Judy, I hope that Liza tours again and this time could she please include some of the songs that the Pet Shop Boys wrote for her, this is a fantastic version love her she is such an amazing woman, her and Judy two icons

  • I saw Liza perform live two days ago when she was in Perth on her Australia Tour and she peformed this song. It was amazing, it bought tears to my eyes. My gods, she was so great. She is an amazing woman, a phenomenal talent and we will always love her and Judy. Two of the best woman ever born!

  • A-men to that, my friend met Judy in Paris in 1966 I think r there abouts, Liza is amazing amazing amazing, u are so so so lucky to see her, as u say Judy are Liza always and forever

  • Have seen Liza live and she is amazing a total entertainer . fantastic a true STAR !!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry to say.... This is, I believe, the first Liza tune that I have appreciated.

    SpeakTruer

  • nice! You shlould hear the original in french by Charles Aznavour...Beautiful!!

  • Wonderful.

  • i heard this song performed by Aznavour and i liked it very much, and i must say L.Minnelli does a good job.

P.S. Try Aznavour he is amazing

  • you are so right..people should look out for the video with Aznavour singing it in French with french and English subs.

  • Hey dear one,

    You DESERVE this!

    Love ya, Jeannemarie & family

  • I love it when it's just her and a piano... she doesn't need those brassy bands she has on her tours

  • Help!!!

What does she say at 4:24, after "reminds us how far we've come"... I cannot get it!

    Thanks!

  • and a great part thanks to.. clam? idk what the artist name was..

  • Thanks!!!

  • She says..."in a great part thanks to GLAAD..alright you'll understand in a minute....start spreading the news!!!!.."

oh no wrong song. Anyway..It took me three times to get it!

  • Thank you!!!

  • Great part thanks to GLAAD

  • Liza is the the best performer of all time ! this song proves it!

  • WOW!!! didnt even know she had done this song!!! only ever heard marc almonds version...Divine decadence dahhhhling!!!!

  • WOW LIZA IS AMAZING

  • What an Strange and wonderful person.

She expresses so beautifully that although we stand in Awe to creativity from afar, it is sadly, currently, in human nature to Crush those who don't conform... At it's boldest in 13 year olds.

  • wow makes me shiver inside out!

  • Aussi émouvant que l'original !!

Quel duo : Liza et Charles !!

    Ne partez jamais !!

  • when did she receive this award? she looks good

  • 2005

  • great & deserving award

    great performance

    great song

    great performer

  • So Wonderful. so so so:

That is, "What Makes a Man "

    BRAVA, Liza- and all!

  • Beautiful! Fabulous! Amazing! Liza is just stunning. Such a heart.

  • Brilliant.

  • 5* for Liza's performance and her song, but not for the dreadful little speech tagged on at the end by that other woman.

  • This is a song that doesn't leave you. Gets in your head and stays there. Beautiful performance.

  • wow

  • i just saw liza last weekend at her engagement at the palace and she performed this song... stunning.

  • LUCKY!! Liza on Broadway singing this song...don't get any better!

  • This is my favourite English version. My favourite French version is not Aznavour's, however, but Lara Fabian's rendition of Comme il disent - check it out, it's somewhere here and profoundly moving

  • one question: is the person in the poem a lesbian or a gay?

  • The song was original written and sung by Charles Aznavour, the character in gay (but not C. Aznavour ;)

  • Brava Liza! I first saw a Drag Queen do this in the Vauxhall Tavern over 20 years ago: in the course of the song the Drang Queen (Andre?) stripped off all his make up and put on a tank-top (=wife-beater in US speak), jeans, and boots.

  • Liza is fierce and fab!

  • Wow. Really wonderful! Minnelli really hit it home with us anglophones and although the song loses somewhat it's meaning in translation, I love her interpretation.

  • Actually it is Charles Aznavour's version that both Liza and Marc perform.

  • I just simply love Liza, she's great, she's wonderful.

She's the ONE and Only great artist of all times!!!

    Loveeeeeeeeee youuuuuuuuuuu Liza!!!!

  • Bravo Liza! The only artist that made a CD to Benfit AMFAR. "And the Day After That".

  • Liza is one powerhouse of a performer! She is a generous, kind-hearted person.

You've got to hear Charles Aznavour's version. Just great!

  • DRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMA! love it

  • i love her mother Judy. and her sister Lorna Luft. they are all amazing singers. its a shame she didnt have any kids to continue on the amazing talent of her family

  • This video is absolutely awesome & the message it sends is wonderous! :-)

Thank for uploading this. I'll cherish this forever! I've lost many to HIV/AIDS from white collar to blue collar to middle class & poorer people! Many, many friends have died of this horrific disease. Many straight, gay/lesbian, babies, tainted blood! That's obscene..."Tainted Blood"

This video is great! Thanks again!

    Love & Peace!

    DJ Daver®

  • glaad: gays & lesbians alliance against discrimination!!

  • She's a big-hearted person.

    BRAVO, Liza!

  • I SO LOVE THIS,THANK YOU

  • "But, I can sing!"

    HUGE understatement.

When people become comfortable with & accept their own sexuality, they won't be obsessed with other peoples'.

  • Such a brilliant performance. Great song, Great lady!

    Mama

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS.

  • BRILLIANT rendition!!

  • Such a brilliant performance!

  • I must say, that part was funny, but what did you really think of this video?

Thanks for your honesty & truth!

    Peace!

    DJ Daver®

  • she has an exceptionally beautiful speaking voice. I could listen to her forever.

  • I agree!!!!

  • briliant!!!

  • oh no wait wait...that wasnt directed at MrAiredale...what he said was good...wow, im really not good at this...

  • oh that last comment was directed to MrAiredale by the way...forgot to mention that

  • that was awesome!

she just takes you to another place so effortlessly...

    when was this show?

  • Superb and see it performed by the man himself Charles Aznavour here on you tube

What Makes A Man A Man

  • How sad!

  • Marybigy:

La version anglaise de cette chanson s'intitule "What makes a man a man".

Je te suggère de dhercher "Charles Aznavour - What Makes a Man", "Liza Minnelli "What Makes A Man A Man"",

et aussi, dans un style très différent mais excellent: "George Daniel Long - What Makes A Man A Man". :)

  • merci beaucoup! je viens de voir que quelqu'un avait répondu a mon comentaire masis surprenamment je ne le retrouve plus ^^;! mais de toute facon, merci beaucoup de tavoir donner la peine de me répondre, japprécie beaucoup.

  • Legendary Liza Minnelli in another great moment in her amazing career...stunning & moving performance...Bravo Liza!!!

  • What a wonderful gift Liza has given us with this astonishing performance. I am stunned. I am intrigued that this song is being covered by performers other than Aznavour. His English language recording of the song -- I think he must have done it in the early '70s -- is incredibly beautiful. Society has progressed today to the point where this song is in many ways a chestnut (a happy thing!), but the raw emotion -- the longing, the sadness, the cold fury -- do not diminish.

  • DIVA DIVA DIVA!

  • What you are calling 'too rushed' I call a great actress who sings. Almond's version, I find is tepid and monotonous, ( not entirely his fault, Aznavour's song is melodically repetitive.), the biggest difference being that Minnelli has the timing and good sense to see that her arrangement varies in tempo, fullness of tone, and modulates at least 5 times, taking us up with her each step up, thereby increasing the drama, in addition to committing more talent to the performance in its entirety.

  • SUPPPPPEERRRRBBBBBBBB

  • Thanks so very much for posting this! Really!

What she says is so true, so true.

Her speech had me crying. Thats why I think so many love her.

Her music has touched so many, we can relate to her songs. Man or woman, whatever, whoever....when she sings nothing matters. I hope one day that will finally fall into all parts of life!

  • What an amazingly talented woman. Living Legend! Thanks so much for uploading this; the woman is a breathtaking inspiration.

  • thank you Lisa, hope this one finds you well, namaste :)

  • LOVE this!!

  • She is sick right now, collapsed on stage i Sweden yesterday - So we should all give her our thoughts

  • I have been trying to find this performance everywhere ever since I first watched it on GLAAD. Thank you soooo much for sharing!

  • Liza's great on this clip, but the rework of the lyrics from the French change it from sad & serious to campy and strange.

  • Really? I didn't find it (this version) campy. I think Liza is campy by nature. I found this version okay but, my fave has to be Charles' recording of the English and Marc Almond's performance. Anyway ... Happy '08! I wish I could hear the French but if it's MORE touching than this version. I may need life-support! LOL. xoxo -Timmy

  • check out george daniel longs version here on you tube..its done as a dance track ..very well done..

  • Just a thought. Camp or kitch can be defined as "that which attempts to be serious but fails", or something that attemps to be beautiful, but fails to be true. So, I'm disagree that Liza performance here is at all Campy. I find her performance to be very truthful and vulnerable. And its nothing if not serious. Her performance is so raw and honest here, it can't help but be beautiful.

  • I believe that MrAiredale has further underscored my point,w/ a less wordy response than mine. One more thing to ponder: Odd and rather wonderous that a song meant for a gay male is more effectively delivered by Miss Liza Minnelli.

  • oh shut up!!!....if you dont like her, fine...thats just too bad for you that you cant enjoy the legend that is liza, but dont go littering this page with your stupid, pompous, bullshit comments....your opinion is neither wanted or valued here...oh and by the way, why the hell are you looking up videos of Ms Minnelli when you dont like her, aaaaaww, no life eh?...wow that is sad...oh ya and who uses words like ponder????

  • @actressindemaking your aversion to the word 'ponder' is hardly surprising since its meaning has to do with 'considering something deeply, thoroughly and thoughtfully',...none of which seem your strong suit. Now if you could only figure out what the Hell you're rambling on about, and to whom these well thought out bon mots are aimed. Seems as though you need to ponder a bit more.

  • @MuzzyVanH 2 years ago.. Seriously? You're actually replying to a comment made 2 years ago?

Seeing as how you had so long to think of a reply, I have to say I'm a little disappointed.

  • @actressindemaking just saw your few posted remarks a day or so ago, must confess I found them quite confusing, (what you are attempting to convey and who you're addressing?),as you mention yourself, ' you don't know how to use this'. At least we have found ONE matter on which we are in agreement. btw, I bet that my response, to your old comment, may possibly be among the speediest you'll receive. It's sad that you have to say anything.C'mon, you & disappointment must be the closest of friends.

  • @MuzzyVanH @MuzzyVanH Wait hold on, what exactly is you problem with me? I was standing up for Liza and your obviously a fan since you have some of her vids in your favourites so what is your problem?

  • @actressindemaking no real problem. I wrote to clear up matter having to do w/ your wondering why anyone would dare use the fobidden word 'ponder', and it seemed as though you were having a bit of a time of it attempting to reply to certain folks. ..that's all. Yes, I was taking a stab that you were among Miss Minnelli's admirers,...-hey!, again we agree! ...hurray for us.

  • MrAiredale you said it perfectly! You really, really did! Her speech had me crying and then she goes on to say that shes not good at it BUT she can sing....

If people can't see what Miss.Minnelli shows in her performances... Well I'm really sad for them!

Her fans always have and always will and that is why she is SO very loved!

  • very well said...totally agree

  • I just love her..........

  • I am not a Liza's Fan but this was one of the most beautifulest performances I have ever seen, Her speech was beautiful and the song was just beautiful.

  • damn she's stunning and so childishly sweet

  • This song made me cry.

  • Absolutley stunning..as always..and THANK YOU!

I never heard her do this..I didn't know she DID this.

    Bless you!

    David

  • omg! that was so beautiful, bravo! brava!. tears are still runnnnig down my face.

  • Thank you for posting this beautiful video, I appreciate.

  • What a captivating performance... what a star!!

  • Liza at her best. Thank you Obsolete1985 for posting this...

  • My pleasure :)

  • Thank you.

  • I was going to upload this, but you beat me too it! But anyways in this Liza is as always first class.
