She is so wonderful. I'm 19 years old and I'm glad I was able to learn who Liza Minnelli is even though many of my friends have no idea who she is. I'm young but I recognize this woman is a legend.
@phalaxii I love London (and UK) AND Liza Minnelli--its like wow, I lived during her peak years--and I still have ...my memories. (short term too lololo)
My god... Is she wearing an obturator for her palate??? She sounds very 'shhhh' in s, sh and t sounds... just wondering. Wonderful singer, always a big fan of her voice but now I've identified those sounds and wondering what's going on
Liza is OK but Charles does it better. What makes a man a man should be sung by a man.Beside he wrote it along with She,Yesterday, all of these songs were done on his album (331/3) Tapestry Of Dreams ect,ect I understand he developed his style of singing after The Great Edith Piaf singing Plus Bleu Que
The best part about this performance--this song-- is that has a story, a story that Liza Minnelli brillantly, and surprisingly, told in a perfect venue to do so.
On dira ce que l'on voudra sur la justesse de la tonalité qui, peut être, n'est pas juste, MAIS, cherchez un interprétation aussi sensible, aussi JUSTE dans l'émotion et on pourra dire qu'elle a manquée cette chanson.
Liz'a's a wonderful performer- I'll be the first to admit that. However, she shouldn't have attempted this. Charles Aznavour did a great job. With Liza it was just ....strange. Didn't make sense.
she has her mothers gift of being able to infuse her songs with such powerful emotion -and makes them believable. Her version of this and quiet love are just perfection. Go Liza!

she ruined the song, she sounds like she ran the 100 meters with bolt, her voice is completly under ... the constant change of tone kills the song. horrible performance...
Powerful song . And it captures perfectly the unique beauty of her voice and her way with lyrics that is so communicative and perceptive. Its so beautiful and deep.
Liza could never do wrong, look who her Mother was/is the amazing Judy, I hope that Liza tours again and this time could she please include some of the songs that the Pet Shop Boys wrote for her, this is a fantastic version love her she is such an amazing woman, her and Judy two icons
I saw Liza perform live two days ago when she was in Perth on her Australia Tour and she peformed this song. It was amazing, it bought tears to my eyes. My gods, she was so great. She is an amazing woman, a phenomenal talent and we will always love her and Judy. Two of the best woman ever born!
A-men to that, my friend met Judy in Paris in 1966 I think r there abouts, Liza is amazing amazing amazing, u are so so so lucky to see her, as u say Judy are Liza always and forever
She expresses so beautifully that although we stand in Awe to creativity from afar, it is sadly, currently, in human nature to Crush those who don't conform... At it's boldest in 13 year olds.
This is my favourite English version. My favourite French version is not Aznavour's, however, but Lara Fabian's rendition of Comme il disent - check it out, it's somewhere here and profoundly moving

What a wonderful gift Liza has given us with this astonishing performance. I am stunned. I am intrigued that this song is being covered by performers other than Aznavour. His English language recording of the song -- I think he must have done it in the early '70s -- is incredibly beautiful. Society has progressed today to the point where this song is in many ways a chestnut (a happy thing!), but the raw emotion -- the longing, the sadness, the cold fury -- do not diminish.

I seen and heard Marc Almond sing this song live in Dublin last night and was blown away with the cleverness of the song. Marcs version was much better I tought - Liza's too rushed..
What you are calling 'too rushed' I call a great actress who sings. Almond's version, I find is tepid and monotonous, ( not entirely his fault, Aznavour's song is melodically repetitive.), the biggest difference being that Minnelli has the timing and good sense to see that her arrangement varies in tempo, fullness of tone, and modulates at least 5 times, taking us up with her each step up, thereby increasing the drama, in addition to committing more talent to the performance in its entirety.
Her speech had me crying. Thats why I think so many love her.
Her music has touched so many, we can relate to her songs. Man or woman, whatever, whoever....when she sings nothing matters. I hope one day that will finally fall into all parts of life!
Really? I didn't find it (this version) campy. I think Liza is campy by nature. I found this version okay but, my fave has to be Charles' recording of the English and Marc Almond's performance. Anyway ... Happy '08! I wish I could hear the French but if it's MORE touching than this version. I may need life-support! LOL. xoxo -Timmy
Just a thought. Camp or kitch can be defined as "that which attempts to be serious but fails", or something that attemps to be beautiful, but fails to be true. So, I'm disagree that Liza performance here is at all Campy. I find her performance to be very truthful and vulnerable. And its nothing if not serious. Her performance is so raw and honest here, it can't help but be beautiful.
I believe that MrAiredale has further underscored my point,w/ a less wordy response than mine. One more thing to ponder: Odd and rather wonderous that a song meant for a gay male is more effectively delivered by Miss Liza Minnelli.

@actressindemaking your aversion to the word 'ponder' is hardly surprising since its meaning has to do with 'considering something deeply, thoroughly and thoughtfully',...none of which seem your strong suit.
