truck drivers, especially interstate drivers are highly experienced and probably the best drivers on the road, id say most of those acciedents are caused by inconsiderate car drivers. road users need to have a bit more respect for the truckies.

upgrading the highways has help and this is coming from a truckdriver and a firey, however, being in a brigade that is stationed on the highway, and attend most MVA i would say out of 100 accidents maybe 5 would be trucks, 2 would be truckies falling alseep and 3 would be a motorist pulling into a truckies braking room cause him to rear end them, also, on the dual lane, most car accidents i go to are because ppl fall asleep due to boredoom, they highway was never intended to be 110 rated.

@longtimehauler, totally agree as a truck driver but they don't put railway freight yards everywhere stock has to be delivered so trucks still have to move it from there, add to that that you now have another freight company in the middle being the railway who have to pay for the train operator, more clerks and paperwork and of coarse the forklift operator and any labourers required which means the end price for transit will be well over double.
I'm a bit confused by this video too. Makes no sense. Not really sure what the speed thing was about though most of those trucks seemed to be driving pretty safely to me all were in control of their vehicles even though they were going slightly over the speed limit. The last guy who was tailgating the hell out of that landcruiser appears to have been in control, though then the landcruiser has braked significantly realising overspeed. a) Back in the 80's the Labour government declined an offer from the Americans to come over here and build a multi lane duel carriageway right around Australia.
b) The New England NEVER stopped being a truck route.
d) A FEW truckies get impatient because of motorists speeding up for overtaking lanes and so forth and what you think is an "unneccesary risk" is just truck drivers having an advantage of being a little higher to see over the crest of a hill for example. When most of the Hume highway became dual carriageway accidents dropped dramatically & the freight volume is huge. I drive the pacific hwy a couple of times a year & seeing the driving habits of many, it's a wonder your not all dead, even the cops are idiots. I find truckies to be very polite on the road whether i'm on my bike or in my car. I went past this tool and his girlfriend in my truck at twilight the night they were hiding in the bushes halfway down st helena.the were there for at least 2hours and more than 300 heavy vehicles went past so they have just showed how well behaved most truckdrivers are.

upgrading the highways has help and this is coming from a truckdriver and a firey, however, being in a brigade that is stationed on the highway, and attend most MVA i would say out of 100 accidents maybe 5 would be trucks, 2 would be truckies falling alseep and 3 would be a motorist pulling into a truckies braking room cause him to rear end them, also, on the dual lane, most car accidents i go to are because ppl fall asleep due to boredoom, they highway was never intended to be 110 rated.

1. On a downhill with 30-60tonne riding on your arse braking doesnt just happen straight away
2.You can also see the brake lights of trucks as they go down the hill
3. You can HEAR the jake brakes as they glide down the hill

I'm a bit confused by this video too. Makes no sense. Not really sure what the speed thing was about though most of those trucks seemed to be driving pretty safely to me all were in control of their vehicles even though they were going slightly over the speed limit. The last guy who was tailgating the hell out of that landcruiser appears to have been in control, though then the landcruiser has braked significantly realising overspeed. Poor truckie has nowhere to go! cant swerve to other lane!

ok i have a very good idea, if the maker of this video, would like to step of his highhorse, ill take him for a drive in my truck, then that way he can see what tools car drivers are and how many accidents are avoided by the operational skills of a truck driver, due to the cars fault, secondly YES! tailgating is illegal, but, unlike a car you can see 5 - 8 cars ahead, and predict movements better, also there was only one problem with this video i saw one truck tailgating.

People only die because the authorities sit on their ass all day instead of getting the upgrade done. See how fast they push for improvements where they live. They should be sacked for causing so much red tape before any improvement can go ahead.
In a recession they should start the upgrade immediately, more jobs, more spending, better economy, and a safer road.

Considering the costs involved in registrations, insurances, fuel, road taxes and arsehole authorities we have to deal with, then dealing with idiot car drivers who comment on us and havent even been in a truck to fully understand the CRAP we go through just to deliver the goods required to keep our country going, So car drivers the next time you shop or buy your new cars just remember how your car got from the docks to the car yard, or fuel from the refinery to the service station.

When most of the Hume highway became dual carriageway accidents dropped dramatically & the freight volume is huge. I drive the pacific hwy a couple of times a year & seeing the driving habits of many, it's a wonder your not all dead, even the cops are idiots. The hwy is the workplace of all those drivers. It's the busiest route because of the improvements that have been made elsewhwere. You've taken a snapshot of an old section and extrapolated it to the extreme. Why don't u show car drivers speeding through the roadwork zone? Hundreds of km of the hwy have been duplicated or new freeways built in the past few years. It's mostly fed funded yet you blame the NSW govt for slow action. The Pacific Highway is an absolute joke. There is absolutely no reason why it would take 20 years as stated. But 20 years is wrong, the Kempsey bus crash happened in 1988, That is 21 years ago, and they were spinning that shit back then. That means it will take them 40 yrs to get dual carriageway???? Fucking ridiculous, especially considering the Hume Hwy is dual carriageway 97 % of the way in the opposite direction. Our politicians nee horsewhipping over this. As for all you truckers, you suck.

Truckies are by far the best drivers on the road, I feel so sorry for the poor bastards always copping a bad wrap from everyone. Its never the moron in the car's fault. I find truckies to be very polite on the road whether i'm on my bike or in my car. If the trucks (or bikes) are giving you a hard time on the road then have a look at your own driving and it will hold the answer...

I went past this tool and his girlfriend in my truck at twilight the night they were hiding in the bushes halfway down st helena.the were there for at least 2hours and more than 300 heavy vehicles went past so they have just showed how well behaved most truckdrivers are.

You know its easy for a car to go downhill - but for us trucks it a god damn pain to keep the speed low and the jake brakes have problem holding them back if its real steep - then of course people complain of god damn 'noise pollution'!
Well i got news for you - if we can't use the engine brakes then how do we stop? Brakes alone are practically useless - they would be burned out instantly.

I'm with Crabshack01 on both counts, There are too many idiots out there in cars that think they own the road and cause accidents, yet when one of those accidents involves a truck, the truck is usually blames in the media, i.e. A truck has collided with a car...... Even if that car was on the wrong side of the road the truck is usually blamed.
people often forget that these are proffessional drivers, they do this day in and day out in all weather and at all hours.

Too right mate! At the moment i'm doing 19 days of driving and 2 days break - practically on the road full time - day driving, some night driving - all kinds of weather. Spot on when you say people forget that we are skilled and professional drivers - most of us know what we're doing - excepting those few dumb cowboys that ruin the whole party and set a bad example.
Most of those car drivers that whine and whine would probably crash a truck into the next tree if they ever went behind the wheel.

We got some problems but i don't know about stressed to the max part. Have a look at some other places over seas. They have faster heavy traffic and less regulations but a comparable death toll. IT'S ALL SO BAD...but it could be worse!
