I believe this was WCW's first foray into Canada (or one of their first forays) and Jacques Rougeau was instrumental in bringing this event to Montreal since WWF really controlled Canada back then.
Can't believe Hogan actually agreed to lose this match.... heck, this is only the 2nd time (before his return to WWE) I've seen Hogan lose clean (1st vs Warrior)
@mmscott9 HHH already jobbed to shelton benjamin, benoit, batista cena, benjamin didnt have charisma, benoit...nuff said... and Cena/Batista are the same main events that u wanted soo soo bad to beat HHH at Wrestlemania... and now u bitch cuz they're PG
@Punj4biUK Hogan jobbing doesnt have anything to do with the Dynamite kid incident. He did this as a thank you for all the work the Rougeau family has done in Montreal. This match was about 9 years after that D Kid/Jacques incident.
Hogan will put Rougeau over, but as a favor to the company that made him and the man that helped create him, he wouldn't, couldn't put Bret Hart over?
I think it's ego..I think win, lose, or draw, Bret Hart would have made him look bad.
I read both of Hogan's books and I was extremely disapointed. He is not the man I thought he was.
hogan vs bret was never going to happen. there was lots of talk and even a magazine article about the possibility, but it was never going to happen. face vs face was rare at the time and hogan was on his way out of wwf.
because hogan was leaving the wwf to persue a movie career that flopped, and they had to pass the torch to the next top dog to carry the wwf into the 90s. who doesn't know that? since youre so smart i'd like to you name 5 PPV matches where it was face vs face pre 1994. good luck!
@nicedreams This was the first - and last - show that WCW did in Montreal, a house show. I was there. The rest of the card sucked, except for another match of Harlem Heat vs Meng & Barbarian.
I don't that as a big deal. It's like when HHH job a new guy and it's considered a fluke. That's what came off here. Especially the way Rougeau can hardly move after the big leg.
this was jacques' retirement match. and hogan loved the rougeau family so he was happy to put him over. and as usual jacques came out of retirement like every wrestler does.
Those punches Hogan throws at 3:40ish Wow are those bad. I got to admit that Hogan allowing Jacques to go over is impressive. Considering he never let Bret go over.
@raoukou thats a jackass comment!! lmao..he did not pay hogan 10,000 dollars..hogan,and his brother ray,are very good friends, and hogan has a deep respect for the family,so hogan insisted he go over!! how do i know?? my dad was a ref on this card!! why do people come on youtube and just make shit up?? you pulled that figure straight outta your ass and typed it!! you really need to get a life,if all you do is spend your time on youtube, makin shit up so u can feel important to people u dont know!
i talked 2 jacques rougeau himself and he told me that hulk and him were really good friens and hulk wanted him 2 win in front of his home crowd (btw hes a great guy)
@Gook14 perhaps, but do keep in mind that it was a house show that many people probably still don't know about. Would Hogan have done the same had it been a televised match? Not sure...
@montrealguy71 It wouldn't make sense for Rougeau to beat Hogan on TV. Rougeau was a heel and firmly in the midcard nowhere near Hogan. He lost to Luger three times, two of which were on TV and one at a PPV, so I don't think Hogan would mind doing it.
@mongoose704 perhaps, but I'm sure any time Hogan has had to do it there must have been some serious arm-twisting. There have been several matches where it just didn't make any sense for Hogan to win. Two cases in point: Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton. It seems that Hogan is afraid that any loss will destroy his legend...at this stage he's got nothing to worry about, he will already live forever for what he did for the business. Why not help more young guys while he's at it?
@montrealguy71 yeah but shawn wasnt young, hes basically faced and beat everyone,i would just take that how it was.when you look at it from a long term standpoint, just being involved in a feud with hulk hogan is a great thing,it gives you more exposer than you can dream of
Indeed. House shows are often used as practice, to see how well something will go over with a live crowd before putting it on tv. I remember when Andre forfeited the belt to Dibiase, they were actually letting Dibiase defend the title at house shows, and the ring announcer did introduce him as the official WWE champ. But since those were never televised, WWE later chose to not acknowledge and just erase it from history.
Yeah, he got the belt on 2/5/88, and they aired Tunney vacating the title on 2/13/88(even though they actually recorded that days before Andre even won the belt). So Dibiase had about 8 days as champ. You can see here at a house show in the Boston Garden on 2/6/88 he cuts a promo as champ and then is introduced as champ by the ring announcer-
If Hogan had known someone was recording this with a camera would he have still done the job for Rougeau?

@johnissoevil Hogan jobbed to Jacques in Canada because he wanted to honor the Rougeau family. And he jobbed CLEAN!
Hogan had a sense of honor. He also jobbed to Arn Anderson TWICE on TV after Arn found out he would have to retire due to his neck injury.

Job = losing in wrestling.
A jobber is someone like Brooklyn Brawler. People say Hulk Hogan never jobbed because he won almost all his matches.

He never jobs on any major outlet, and he only jobbed b/c it was in canada and he had a lot of respect for the rougeau family.
