  • Hey buddy. You suck.

  • deerhoof does a modern jazz/ rock bright sound that is refreshing

  • Everyone raves about this Zappa album. It's good but I think he did far better. This was just appreciated and accepted more cos of its musicality. 'Peaches...' is one of his best compositions though no doubt about that.

  • EMARAIGHT??

  • I didn't like Grand Wazoo that much.

  • Grand Wazoo is his best

  • Can you please review my favorite albums of all time ? Thanks (you seem to know a lot about everything so go ahead !)

  • I'm going to feature this on my zappa blog dailyzappa.tumblr.com, because you nailed this on the head!

  • I have listened to the album twice since seeing this review. Terrific album, love it! Peaches en Regalia is indeed a lovable track, I can see why Zappa called the album "a movie for the ears".

Willie The Pimp is my second favorite after Peaches. Great guitar work.

What album do you recommend I check out next?

  • @MrZoooook If you wanna stick to Zappa, listen to Grand Wazoo and One Size Fits All. Zappa's live albums are also really good.

  • I feel like the common hipster/alternative music fan opinion is that you MUST LOVE Frank Zappa's stuff. I just don't feel it, and this is coming from a Trout Mask Replica listener. Isn't it enough to be impressed by his accomplishments in the medium?

  • @theneedledrop do you know any other jazz rock artists out there?

  • havent seen anyone mention the greatest song on this album. Peaches En Regalia. one of the greatest songs of all time hands down.

  • When Zappa opens his mouth his music goes to shit... just my opinion

  • 7:26 - 7:32 That has to be a hidden comment somewhere on a youtube dubstep video

  • I only watch these videos for Cal's recommendations.

  • i guess you wont review Rush albums lol

  • The Dance of Maya. Dat sawg, dayum. Actually all of The Inner Mounting Flame is pretty moving. Hot RATS!

  • That one with the semen, potato and Jewish girl.Pl0x?

  • Hey Anthony, what do you think of Shining and their album Blackjazz in particular?

  • I can't stop looking at the album cover and it's distracting me from the review. It also hurts. A lot.

  • i dare you to review 69 Love Songs

  • love this album so much

  • This is not a review request, and you can handle this by commenting to this question directly:

Have you ever heard Jean-Luc Ponty's "King Kong" album where he covers music by Frank Zappa? If so, what do you think of it?

  • If you review endtroducing... i might cry from joy

  • Excellent review, Fantano & this is one of my favorite albums also!!

  • Captain Beefheart sings on "Willlie the Pimp", for those who didn't know...

  • Hot Rats has been one of my favorite albums. But I urge you to play some Henry Cow, and...VOILA!!...you hear that Zappa "borrowed" a lot from Mr Cow on Hot Rats. Especially audible on Little Umbrellas and It must be a camel.

  • Frank Zappa was a genius

  • Holy crap, listening to 'Willie the Pimp' right now. Thanks for the rec man, might never have listened to this otherwise.

  • mc hammer

  • Mahavishnu Orchestra review would be awesome :D

  • Turn on the Bright Lights

  • Frank Zappa is a genius. Favorite artist of all time.

  • I once was playing some Zappa for my housemate's boyfriend & he said "This kinda reminds me Phish." I seriously wanted to punch him & scream, "YOU take that back!!"

  • Well now I have to listen to Hot Rats again.

  • MY TOP 5 ZAPPA ALBUMS - 1. were only in it for the money 2. freak out! 3. absolutely free 4. weasels ripped my flesh 5. ' (apostrophe)

HONORABLE MENTIONS (its zappa, there can't be just 5) *bongo fury - (FEATURING CAPT. BEEFHEART!) * Waka/Jawaka

  • I've been listening to Zappa for almost 30 years, and I think you hit the nail right on the head with this review. Great job, Anthony.

  • @parmesancrisp dad?

  • Illmatic-Nas

  • Thank you for reviewing this album. You have brought a priceless sonic gem that I will appreciate for years to come along with others I would have never heard of without you. Congrats on the 50K!

  • "listening... full... in your ears"

  • Weird, a month after I listen to an album you release a review on it.. it's happened twice so far.

  • one of my four favorite albums.

  • "Information is not knowledge. Knowledge is not wisdom. Wisdom is not truth. Truth is not beauty. Beauty is not love. Love is not music. Music is the best…"

  • Why are people requesting reviews? He's reviewing his favorite albums... how can you request that?

  • @cptspoofy just made me feel dumb as hell lol

  • @cptspoofy it says on his page that you should request albums on the latest video....

  • also, I'll let you know how zappa feels on this review.

  • "causing a ruckas." perhaps...even...bringing one?

  • I love how he's pulling out the old sweaters for these vintage reviews. It's just like old needle drop!

  • Any melvins album. Any Earth album.

  • "it's listeningful in your ears... frever."

    well done.

  • yo, get that shit off ya face.... BITCH!

  • Trout Mask Replica! Who's with me?

  • monstrosity? no, little umbrellas is genuinely beautiful, no strings attached

  • I'd rather shoot myself - here - here - and even here ... than ever listen to Zappa.

And - please ... never use the word seminal. : )

Otherwise - good work! ... I made it almost halfway through. : D

  • 2:55 And Return to Forever. Can't forget Return to Forever.

  • Bob Dylan!

  • He's reviewing Wu-Tang Clan - 36 Chambers and Marvin Gaye - What's Going On. He's played both those albums on repeat the last couple of days. See for yourself - last.fm/user/theneedledrop

  • @GannonSlayer1437

  • Shamed to ask this, but from what song is the end-tune?

  • @TheDjoetma I asked Anthony the same question. He answered the ending tune was written, played and recorded by him.

  • @adsbegone Hmm, ok, Thanks. It's just that it sound so familiar. Like The Temptation's My Girl or Sam Cook's Wonderful World, but different...

  • I've got many suggestions for music to look at. Really looking forward to King Krules full release, as well as your review. Mostly the release though! I don't think I've seen a review for Shining yet though, they recently released a live dvd/cd. The release album is from 2010. but if you think the fusion of metal and jazz sounds interesting you should check it out. Kurt Vile and Team Me are also suggestions you could check out. Great show by the way! A lot of great musical input through here!

  • what's on your wall, man? what album? what album's that?

  • Tera Melos

  • I wouldent mind a classic review every now and again, maybe They Might Be Giants-Lincoln.

  • Tera Melos / Zoo Weather

  • 0:12

I don't know what that was, but I will never get bored of it.

Also, great pick! I love Hot Rats!

  • The reason why people ask for classic reviews is because they want suggestions for music to check out. Or at least, that's what I want. You could say....make one long video of "stuff you should check out" and most of us would be satisfied. Or, not making video and just releasing a list.

  • I'm pretty sure the instrumentation you were unsure of in Peaches is the Marimba. Dweezel's version of that tune arranged it for guitar.

  • Thank you.

  • Frank himself despised having to write what he called "word songs", which I think is why Hot Rats REALLY takes off — he allowed himself to do what he was BORN to do: write music as "sounds" alone.

  • Love the track Peaches En Regalia. Zappa had a talent for writing really long, complex and yet catchy melodies.

  • Cream my pants if you reviewed Laughing Stock by Talk Talk.

  • Please stop reviewing classics. I can go anywhere for this shit. Please stop? Please?

  • @darthkrueger um, calm down? He said it was only this week dude. Take a chill pill.

  • I totally thought there was a new Frank Zappa album or something when I saw his name.

  • skip to 10:39 for the real review.
