  • @frenchge I conducted a factory reset on a laptop with Windows XP from 2005 and I've tried installing the SP3 Pack on it and it just wont connect to the internet. It's missing the software for it. Do you know where I can obtain the necessary drivers/files?

  • If I reboot my computer to factory settings (using a disc) do I have to update the BIOS again?

  • @Go4br0keV2 No, the BIOS is firmware and resides in a chip on the motherboard.

  • ok i don't know what went wrong but when i hit F12 it takes me to the restore settings. When i click restore nothing happens and i don't have a restore cd. plz help

  • @SuperKaiser3 You can find restore info at the manufactures website and they also usually have restore CDs you can purchase for a nominal amount.

  • Will Norton Ghost work if you already have a problem? My electricity bleeped. When I turned my computer back on it was running super super slow. I can boot it into safe mode and it runs fine. I scanned it with Spybot and found no issues. I got an error code that a script is running and slowing my computer down. Not sure what that means. I think something just happened when the electricity bleeped. If I use Norton Ghost will it work or will it copy the problem too?

  • @BlogGeekChic Ghost is used to image a good system so when the need arises you will have the opportunity to restore quickly.

  • @frenchge I thought that might be the case. :( Thanks for the info. Great video! I subscribed and am going through lots of your others too.

  • I have fake windows 7 if I do this will it dissapear?

  • @xXim3picXx Yes...but it will also remove any programs installed or files and data saved.

  • well my laptop was sent to me pre loaded i had no password recovery disk i forgot my pass word on a acer and i cant restore to facotry settings because i cant get in to the computer because my softwear was pre loaded!!!

  • Will this get rid of a virus?

  • @koqaz Yes...but it will also remove any programs installed or files and data saved.

  • @frenchge so when u F12 your computer all virus and programs you've downloaded will be gone so it will be like the frist time you've got it right \?

  • @IIDannyBoyII Yes...and all saved data and files will be lost.

  • i have a compaq presario cq62

  • how do i restore my labtop to the factory settings and erase all passwords

  • @mike84alisha83 Compaq has a recovery partition which can be accessed by pressing F10 at startup. You will next see recovery options, repair-restore-factory recovery. Factory recovery will bring you back to factory defaults.

  • i love that your active! will this uninstall everything if i restore to factory settings because i will need internet explorer or something to use internet off! i am really tempted to try this, i wouldnt have thought this would delete the internet because it is restoring it to factory settings not to nothing settings. anyway i hope that you message back, thanks. i will probably try this anyway because i have got a laptop as well but yeah. please reply.

  • @FPSxPsycho You have either a hardware problem or a bad restore CD.

  • Thanks! I fixed mah laptop=)

  • Can you please help me? I have an Acer Aspire 3680, and I've tried everything pressing the F8 and it doesn't react at all, I can enter the BIOS Utility but that's it, I tried the F12 and nothing, I tried pressing Alt+F10 and again nothing, can you give me some advice? Please I'm desperate

  • @TsukiyomiJuri at start up hold alt and press f10 and you will get a menu that pops up and then select restore to factory defaults. If that doesn't work you will need to order a restore CD form the Acer website.

  • im having a problem with my computer, when i turn it on my screen shows blocks and multi colored lines, what could be the cause of this? please help thanks.

  • Sounds like a bad video card.

  • @frenchge yes it was a bad video, i took it to a computer repair and they confirmed but they wanted to charge me $140 dollars to replace it, i decided to do it myself after buying a pci express card ($60)pop it in, fix the resolution and like magic i was back in business, thanks you were a big help!!!!

  • What to do when you have no cd but only a USB with the programs on it? I don't know what to do after I click F12 and then my USB. After that it doesn't go.

  • You need to boot the computer from the USB. During startup you can change the boot start device to USB by either going to BIOS or boot menu. Some computer use the delete or F2 or F12 to change the boot device or enter BIOS.

  • @frenchge Yes I click on F12 and I go to my usb. But then their is a black screen with on the upper left a white strip that flickers. The only problem is that I think it also can be at the programs that are on the usb. I'm not sure how they are. 'Cause I donwloaded the programs. But I can't start them.

  • Sounds like the problem is with the USB. There are some utilities on the Internet that will setup the USB for booting. I also have a USB boot YouTube video that might help.

  • @frenchge Which video is it? I don't find it. And thank you for the help.

  • Install Windows XP From DOS Bootable Flash Drive

  • very helpfull, big thanks sensei

  • i can get to that screen for factory settings, but when i click "Repair My Computer" it just starts up like normal. someone help before computer is in a terrible accident

  • i want to factory restore without reinstalling windows but my pc is custom build

  • CloneZilla is the best free imaging program for setting up an easy restore.

  • Pressing F12 on start-up does nothing for my computer. I want to restore it to factory condition, but the only way I can is through the "system restore" program on the computer. However, the earliest date stored is today's date. What can I do?

  • Most newer computers have a partition where a default image is stored. You will have to check the manufactures website to find the procedure for restoring your operating system.

  • if i restore to factory settings. will i have to reinstall windows. or will windows still be installed??

  • Restore to factory default settings will bring the computer back to way it was when you first got it. All programs installed by you and all data and files will be removed. Make sure important data and files are saved to some backup media.

  • @frenchge does this mean that the comapny such Toshiba will have the same introduction files and programs out of the box or does it mean that i will have to install windows. some companies sold systems without an operating system then sold them to companies who then placed theirown system

  • Some companies have made mods, but you still get a fresh start with the factory defaults or out of the box condition when you do a restore. You just have to remember to backup important data and files.

  • @frenchge I discovered(just recently) by pressing dir /s you get to see files inside of folders. I now see over 7000 files, when using dir I only saw 488. I was prepared to use a format hard dirbe to start over ,but now I must continue to use the hard method to retrieve files. My system is confusied with win 3.10. win 3.11 win 95 and win 98. . I wish to find a program that can be small enough to fit on a floppy disk in order to auto correct the proper directoroies for either version of windows.

  • @frenchge Do you know how to use cables to conect one computer to another and the proper propceedure to correct the transfers. I don't wish to spend too much money on new cables. I have several cables , and need to kow the correct pin configurtion.also do you know of a anti virus program that can be used i a floppy disk as my old toshiba has only a floppy disk drive.

  • The easy way is to use a network card in each and then a cross-over cable or switch.

  • @frenchge This Toshiba is from 1997. I don't want to risk damaging the already file system. Is there a way to connect cables directly. Do you have a video uploaded with a "HoW TO"

  • Sorry I do not have a video about transferring files. However, if the laptop can connect to a network you can share a folder or drive and transfer files. There are many files and references about transferring files on the Internet. Use Google and search using the keywords "transferring files".

  • @frenchge Do you have any knowledge of entering comand lines into Config sys command line ?. My old laptop has switched boot and not recognize the a drive any longer. I recently hooked it up to my hi def wide screen tv and can now see more clearly, but each step cause another problem.i think I can rescue the operating system with comand line insert help/

  • I do have some DOS video, but config.sys is used with DOS to load sys drivers. If you have a drive problem it is most likely a bad drive not config.sys

  • @frenchge I ran the scandisk ad it did recognioze some bad clusters on the drive and reconfigured them to a safer place on the durve and marked the damaged clusters as "Unsuable". the damaged files were the Himen sys and Gui and others, the same ones that were having trouble when I tryied to reinstall the win 3.11. i will give this just a few more tries before sending it out to be fixed. it started out a fun thing to work on, but now its becming frustrating.

  • @frenchge it boots from the hard drive now, after usinmg the safe mode with prompt, I se;ected some options and now I don't get the win98 welcome screen aong with the insert windows 98 startup disk #2 anpyance, but now I can not use the A drive to use some of the disks that I have. How do I use the insert comand line to reactivate the A drive? i can access xtree and add comand line that may solve the problem

  • Sounds like it's badly corrupted or the drive is going bad. You should try and reformat the drive and/or do a clean install. Be sure to backup any important files and data.

  • @frenchge Thanks, but I believe you are more of an instructor with a set defination of how to do things the expected way. I need more of a teacher who will not question my results but will explain ways to do them correctly. this problem reminds me of the space program where they expecteed everyone to "Follow the manuals" if we all did that there would be no space program. I need to "Kick the panels ,twist the wires and curse softly until I get it right " .

  • Your right, I have taught 100's and 100.s of students for more than 20 years. I maintained over 1000 computers at 7 different sites daily and I did figure out how to keep things running without spending too much time on one computer. I have also seen too many people that are determined to waste valuable time trying to fix a sick Windows operating system. You need to understand all Windows die a slow death and you cannot stop it only prolong it. Windows has a badly designed registry.

  • @frenchge I hope that you understand that I was not trying to be direspectful to you asboth a person and valued educator. What I meant is that I can not allow Microsoft to get the best of me with this problem, (not) lol ! i believe that the insert comand line is the source of my problems and I am still learning how to do this with step by step instructions. most people find Microsoft a handy business to follow their rules, but I want to understand more than just follow instructions.

  • @frenchge I see myself as Will Robinson after he dismantled the Robot and got into trouble by his father, especially when Pop saw all the wires and parts and Will unable to get it back together, but Damm if he didn't get it done by working all night in a hostile enviroment. I know that feeling all too well, but I'll get it. I give it up to Christmas before I send it out to a shop.meaning that will be my deadline, if not by Xmas, i ship out. thanks again.

  • @frenchge thanks again. good luck with your instructions. I'm not that kind of obediant student. I need a hell raiser teacher.

  • It put me on safemode and then it wouldn't do anythig else but shutting down randomly

  • Ok thank you but there mad expensive :(

  • It dosent its from like 2000 and it keeps asking for the disk and when i put it in it will go to disk 4 and when its on disk 5 it dosent read the disk and it will keep like this if i use a windows XP disk will it work? Thats what it had on it before i did this

  • Windows XP disk should work.

  • My computer is at the point where i need the discs but it keeps saying it cant find some of the files and its been doing this for weeks now..... Help??

  • Your computer should have a built-in restore feature and the manufactures website should have info. Be sure to back-up important files and data because the manufactures restore will delete all installed programs, data, and files saved since you started using the computer.

  • @KentuckyWildcats1000 LOL funny.

  • @frenchge Eyy bro. I go got a windows 7 computer i was wondering how to restore it back to factory settings. Its really slow. N it freezes after like the first 2 minutes of use

  • You might first try the free Glary Utilites to repair and clean. Also your computer should have a restore feature that you can find info on at the manufactures website.

  • i pressed f12 and it did not ask my to restore to factory settings?

  • The manufactures website will have detailed instructions to help you restore it.

  • @KentuckyWildcats1000 which was youtube?

  • @KentuckyWildcats1000 b-b-b-bu-but-but ii-i-i ddont watch porn :0

    lol

  • I HATE VISTA!!!!!!

  • Vista is the worst ever program that Microsoft created.

  • @frenchge nope microsoft mistake edition, or M.E. is worse LOL

  • @frenchge I dont understand why some people hate VISTA. I find it perfectly find and windows 7 is really laggy. Vista runs really smoothly and east to use. Vista is what i find best out of windows 7, XP, and vista.

  • @frenchge NO XP LOLZ

  • @frenchge nop it was windows .3

  • @frenchge actually it's a operating system :P

  • @frenchge vista with a standard firewall is the worst operating system they made but add your own firewalls and custom security and its a dream. but i must confess i like windows 7. tip nether use I.E peace.

  • @frenchge yes i need help restoring my acer aspire 300 back to factory settings me acer recovery icon is missing can you help me email me kevinjon169@aol.com

  • You can restore your Acer to factory settings using the second partition. You can also create a set of restore CDs incase the second partition fails. Important note to remember is that all stored files, data, and installed programs will be lost when restoring. Start the Recovery Management which is program that should already be installed. Hope this helps.

  • You need the computer to select the CDROM as the first boot device. That can be changed in the BIOS. You need to start the computer and press the delete key on most computers to get to the BIOS. Then select the CDROM as the first boot device.

  • @frenchge i tried this stuff already but i need the password to get to that other stuff in BIOS. To make matters worse i have no clue what the password is & i've probably tried all the ones listed as common ones already

  • Okay, so here's my problem: I've been trying to install Linux Ubuntu 10.10 on my Packard Bell laptop, and when it gets to the "Copying Files"-stage it fails, and i've been trying to burn several DVDs to retry the process... but didn't work, so now i want to restore my laptop to it's factory settings... How can i do that, WITHOUT a CD ? (In Linux Ubuntu 10.10 i have an option to try the OS, without installing... Do you know if i can do it from there ?) Please answer me ! :<

  • Most recent laptops have a partition with an image on their hard drive that can be used to restore back to factory settings. The process instructions can be found at the manufactures website. If that is not aqvailable you will have to re-install the operating system. You will need the operating system install files from some external device.

  • I have a Gateway laptop. It has Norton in it, and some where at some time, it picked up a dwm.exe problem. Norton keeps saying on pop ups, dwm.exe tried to acess my computer. Risk is high. The only way I can get online with it, is to refresh my I.P. at every start up. No viruse detected with Norton scans..Is this a reg problem? How do I fix?

  • As you might already know the dwm.exe is the desktop windows manager and is part of vista and 7. DWM can over tax some computers when Aero is running. You can switch your computer to Classic Mode which will reducing the system load that dwm puts on your computer. Hope this helps.

  • @frenchge Thanks for the help. I found out with AVG scan instead of Norton the dwm.exe file was a Malware file named dwm.exe, and had more with it like Trojan Horse as well. (Norton missed all of that) So to anyone who needs a free security please try AVG and for a little more you can get their top of the line security edtion, and trust me it's well worth every penny

  • I have a Compaq Presario 2200 Laptop that says "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." It also says that I should run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption and then start my laptop. But all I dont know how to get past the blue screen with this information on it.<
