  • @wholewheatpita one of the best line's ive ever heard

  • Instrumentally, the part Kanye sampled is the best part of the song IMO. Interesting how he takes from the first two measures but repeats each measure twice rather than just looping the whole thing.

  • i'm on here because i really do like Phillip Mitchell :)

  • Nice use of the sample by Kanye but it's all about the lyrics in this song. So beautifully uplifting at the same time as being so tragic. This song gets me every time.

  • Common passed on this beat now who made it to a jam?

"YEEZY MADE IT TO A JAM"

  • Everything I Am

  • better than kanye's

  • i wont lie im only on this cuz ye sampled it

  • He better sing this!!!

  • What's even more interesting is Kanye stole that man's whole outfit.

  • What' even more interesting is Kanye stole that man's whole outfit.

  • @lil22 LMBOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Funk and Soul babeh! God i love this.

  • everything im not made me everything I am.... I mean whaat??!

  • @dyll182

  • so true...

  • @hypedigg Common passed on this BEAT i made it to a jam.

  • @hypedigg shut the fuck up

  • @hypedigg Everything I'm not made me everything I am.

  • You might be right on that, but the way I see it is that so many listen to kanye today and through his tracks, music like this reaches new ears and won't be forgotten.

And isn't that what music is all about?

  • He got alot of people into music they otherwise wouldnt listen to (Labi Siffre, Marvin Gaye) I like what he is doing even though his lyrics arent "up to date"

  • nah that would be madlib

  • 9th wonder!!!!

  • 96 percent of the songs kanye produced are sampled lol there was one song that i thought he sampled but it wasnt,he made it from scratch

    its called bring me down

  • spoken like someone who doesnt know much about hip hop or producing Hip Hop was founded on sampling way back in the days of dj kool herc in the bronx they would play beat breaks (sampled) and rap over them also look back on hip hop and most of it is sampled period go back and look at Dj Premier's work Sampled Dr Dre's work sampled what makes hip hop original is the fact that it is music made from other music no matter how small the sound samples can also be used like instruments not just remakes

  • This groove is so good it hurts

  • One real a** love song the words some of these old school singers used to say and talk about...DAMN

  • they don't make music like they used to.

  • Sometimes they do. But that's a rarity to come by.

  • couldnt have said it better my self!!!!!!

  • This is such an absolutely beautiful, sensuous song. WIll have to check out more of his music.

I only learned about this song because of that "EVERY Kanye Sample EVER" video mentioning this. Thanks for posting this.

  • same here I knew Kanye Samples but I just couldn't find them!

  • much agreed, dkesignstv. kanye isn't the best rapper, but he sure is a better producer. all the samples that he uses, are good.

  • "but he sure is a better producer"

    ...No.

  • I agree I like him a lot more as a producer. 'Never Change' on Blueprint is a good sample.

  • I love this song, and Kanye West did a fantastic job sampling the song.

Both versions are immense and 'Everything I Am' is my favorite Kanye song.

  • it was dj premier who produced kanyes version.. he sampled and mixed it

  • i was with Pat when he sent this song off to Premo to JUST DO THE SCRATCHES... Premo chopps records up like really chops them he rarely lets the sample ride... you made that up out of thin air also cause they mixed this along with everythign else other than stronger and can''t tell me nothin

  • this that shit you smoke a fat one 2

  • haha hell yeah lol

    I can picture it!! :)

  • Damn...here we go again..Common passed on this beat i made into a jam..everthing im not made me everything i am....KANYE

  • When I first heard "Everything I Am" I wanted to find that sample he used for it because Primo and Kanye hooked it up so dope. I'm glad I found the original song. Atleast Kanye used the opening bar and looped it and broke up the other elements from "If We Can't Be Lovers" to make that track happen. I love both versions the same....this is a classic hip hop joint.

  • Like the original and the sample myself

  • to all the dj premier jockriders on here, get over. he makes sick beats. so does kanye. this one's Ye's

  • so does that make you a Kanye West jockrider? Just sayin...

  • i dont know, does it? just askin...

  • All Premier did was scratch it for him...calm down a bit bro

  • i play 4 instruments well. Sometimes, for Hip Hop, just playing doesn't cut it. Hip Hop was birthed from sampling. You either sample, play (create from scratch), play with the sample, or recreate the sample...This is how it works. period. I've done all of those.

  • me too brotha

  • everybody doesnt grow up with the priveledge of learning to play an instrument but why should that stop u from creating music?

if you love hip hop, love it in its purest form.

  • amen

  • when r people gonna recognize the fact that hip hop production origionates from sampling?!? if somebody samples so what?? thats hip hop! MCs find their voice over music that creates a feeling.

F@*k...if james brown said he was gonna start producing him hop music and he looped breaks from his own music or chopped his own shit then would it be a big deal? Thats like tellin Herc "dont loop thoes breaks in the park" "you suck for doing that". He fathered hip hop!

  • True indeed.

  • Runewalsh, I'm with u. This always happens with the great songs/samples. After hearing the source you can't stop listening to it.

  • This is the sample Kanye used on the whole Everything I am

  • beautiful song, amazing

  • I'm a bit disappointing in myself for not knowing about this beautiful song until Kanye sampled it. Now I cant stop listening to it

  • hehe, agreed ^^,

  • for the record knaye did not produce this beat. dj premier did

  • it wasnt produced by dj premier stupid it was Scratched by him, it as produced by kanye

  • Kanye produced it.

  • kanye did do the beat dj premier only did the scratches

  • my bad, should have known better. this is nothing compared to the beats primo puts out.

  • THis song is definitely the shit

  • mr. mitchell - great song and lyrics! so saaaaaad....and soulful!

  • i luh dih song

  • so good.

  • this is soul..long time since i heard something this good..this music era is gone too bad...

  • a lot of these old music eras come back in full force though later on.

There are waves of rock resurgances, soul resurgances, good hiphop resurgances, everything comes back in some new and nice way eventually when someone who actually really appreciates the music comes around and does his/her thing.

  • Kanye West- Everything I Am

  • That's one way of seeing it.

A different way of seeing is that Kanye has great taste in music (otherwise he wouldn't sample great tracks). Unfortunately a lot of these great classic tracks are either forgotten or never even heard by the younger generation of music lovers.

A way of looking at it is that Kanye pays hommage and a lot of of the classic tunes reaches new ears.

Now tell me, how can that be wrong?

  • The best way of looking at it - he's a hip-hop producer that uses some incredible tracks to sample from, has a hugely diverse set of music he's used to sample from and is definitely a talented producer

All the jumped up morons who slam hip-hop artists for sampling are just ignorant morons who can't appreciate music simply because it contains sample - that's their problem.

If they think it's easy to do what Kanye does, I'd like to see them create a beat half as good as the one this ended up as.

  • agreed with both of you. shit, if it was for kanye sampling this, i'd never hear this beautiful song.

  • @silvike Explanation for why someone can understandably enjoy Kanye. That's the way I've always felt.. unless they truly butcher it (remake of Staying Alive by N-Trance), which Kanye definitely did not do.

  • @silvike it definitly isn't, and god bless him that he is doing that

  • @silvike wise words my friend

  • This is some of the coolest shit, ive ever heard. Kanye did pretty good use of it and captured the best part of it. imo.

  • Great song, Kanye made this great too

  • o the soul! can't beat the original!

  • U said it Sista.
