  • tesltra raped me. years ago. i had 3g phone not even a smart one. before those were around i was paying for data inc mms plus the MMS fee. i thought if i pay 50 cent for MMS its not counted as data as well but it is counted as data with incoming MMS.. they deliberately (lying by omission) mislead people. i had a huge bill a few times and i was on a 49 buck plan. i hate telstra.

  • free? its never free. at home or on phone.. its free if u connect to a public wifi.

  • She hasn't made it clear in this video if she's actually connected to her local wireless access point in the wireless menu? Disabling 3G / Data roaming isn't enough (2G / EDGE data) - I mean surely she's done that right?

  • lol i was just waiting for that f bomb :P

  • i got charged as well, damn it now my phone is fucking dead because i didn't pay the bill.. the freaking bill is 600+ damn it!! who the hell will pay that freaking amount of money! even my parents were freaking pissed! they just WANT MONEY!! the internet data thing, they should have restrictions when u over used it! i mean they only allow about 5g of freaking data then why the hell are they allowing pple to go over!!! the internet thing should be cut off after that!

  • doesn't matter now, if you have the new update turn cellular data off under 3G. that will disconnect your phone completely from the internet.

  • optus is the only choice we got in Australia... i mean 3 is all indians...HALLOO sir..hAW cAN I HALP yo? telstra not afordable ...fodafone is shit... and so on...i would sue optus for this scam... As an optus employee u cant offer $100 discount to any customer... coz u think they are nice.

anyway we need some pure ozi gsm where no indian or wog scam can reach

  • I work for Optus, we have Our customer care to help you if you have problems regarding your Optus Mobile and any other concerns..... we will help you and make you satisfied with the services taht you got....

  • you go girl!!!!! fuck the phone companies!!! and props for posting this to let everyone else no! much love

  • hey - i got a new iphone 4 from optus and asked that they throw in a $10.00 screen protector into the deal - optus world noarlunga wouldnt do it. Against policy they said - ( yet they did it 2 years ago when i got my iphone 3g) So give 'em hell . And if you are potential customer I advise you to comsider other options.

  • Basically: 3G isn't the internet, it's a phone network in general. As is GPRS.

What you needed to do is tell your iPhone about your home connection and (most likely) you would then need to tell it to connect only via that local wifi service when it is in range.

Unfortunately you need to know your shit. Apple doesn't tell you how to make a phone call on your phone let alone how to connect to your own wifi network.

Meanwhile plebs on the phone line at Optus don't know shit either. Take care.

  • Turning 3G off enables 2G (small circle in thetop left) so you see a still using their connection, but at a slower speed. This noirmally happens when the 3G signal is weak. To use wifi, you have to SWITCH WiFi ON. This is shown by the radiating icon and it is only when you see that icon that are you using your own connecting.

    Simply a case of RTFM

  • virgin is the same!!

  • happened to me to, sigh

  • Optus are a bunch of asshole fucking rip off scamming dickheads. Don't worry, you're not the only angry customer.

  • When you turn off 3G, the iPhone goes to GPRS -- a slower connection... but still uses data. You weren't being charged for you home internet, but for internet without a data pack. To be certain you need to BAR data from Optus' end. Yes you are right, Optus are very sneaky. It was irresponsible of the person who sold you the iphone to not add a data pack or BAR the internet. Optus are very sneaky in their marketing too.

  • I want to know what Optus had to say about it... Why did you delete it?

  • I didnt delete anything but that nitwit that replied to yours is right I am blocking and deleting him for being a dick ^_^

  • Hi guys, I can confirm we dont charge customers for WiFi use on iPhone; some people posted that even if you turn 3G off & you surf the web, youre using GPRS & this is true. If youve got a data allowance with your plan, this can be used for 3G or GPRS.

manque15 I saw youre comment that you got a resolution; sorry to hear this bill caused you frustration :( Not sure if youre on Twitter, but were online M-F 9am-6pm AEST so if you ever need a hand, send us a tweet.

    Cheers,

    Robbie

  • Thanks Robbie for letting us know...

  • its call highway robbery missy

  • hahaha, maybe your wireless internet has got a password on it right, and when your iPhone asked you to put in the password for your home wireless you put in the incorrect password, so i didn't connect properly, make sure you check

  • ye i kno its bull shit thets why i go0t an ipod touch fuck iphone they piss me off much coz thers no many scams they can get u with so fuck them!!!!

  • Hmm interesting - funny vid too! Ill look into that. Hey it could have been worse - you could have been with Telstra! Cheers ;-)

  • happened to my friend he was on Telstra and only got a misserable 5MB. Telstra failed to tell him that. He used 500mb. His bill was $2500

  • Thats what happens when you "assume" it will work. Should have checked.

  • um turning 3G off doesn't turn data off. You need to go the the Wifi menu to use your home wireless internet

  • I use my Apple iPhone through Telecom XT in New Zealand - I use a prepaid system where I get unlimited txts and 1GB of internet for $40 a month, it works out well!!!

  • it is a matter of doing the right thing from your iphone..you see u react so much that u dont even consider calling to get instructions in the 1st place to do the right from your iphone...

  • Like most are saying when you turn 3G off you will still get charged for the slower data service which is EDGE here in the US thats why you should get a data plan on smart phones.

  • I sympathise entirely. Mine was a slightly different case- international roaming with internet (google maps). my bill came to $1920.00 AUD for the month I was away. Needless to say, I am going to tear someone in optus another arse hole. Might try the telecomunications onbudsman if there is no resolution. Did you get satisfaction in the end?

  • I got screwed with the free youtube bullshit with optus as well, im using youtube, got a 200 buk bill, I ring up and they say ohh you have to go through optus zoo and acceess youtube that way I said wats the difference, your an isp you know where traffic comes from, but they said no, and have to pay so its going to small claims over this.

but YOU GO GIRL dont take shit from nobody

  • wow,

you have an amazing accent ^-^

where are you from ? :D

  • Sounds like she's from New Zealand.

  • Yeh but its like, aussy,, but i swear there are hints of some sort of american accent in there. Just that synthetic sound on "turned" and "First"

  • have you had any recent high bills??

  • No, it's been all resolved and it's a standard charge now. ^_^

  • ok thats good :) well i was on the $79 cap (with unlimited sms) i ended up sending around 2000 sms's that month because i thought it was free and that i might as well sms all my friends. but when it was bill time, i was horrified!. a $943 phone bill because they forgot to tick unlimited sms!!! i was VERY ANGRY. we had to take it to the ombudsmen because they wouldn't do anything about it. eventually we only had to pay $79 and then i was happy. :)

  • I'm with Optus and I downloaded a whole 700mb movie via iTunes on my phone through my home wireless network without the need to call Optus and tell them I was going to do that... I didn't get charged for it at all.

  • Turning off the Enable 3G option disables 3G but it DOESNT disable cellular data completely - so it sounds like you've been connecting to their slower Edge connection some of the time. To prevent this remove all the details under Cellular Data Network and be sure to only connect via your home network. Oh and they cant charge you for using your own home wifi - they cant even tell if you're using it or not!

  • i dont turn off 3g and i use my wireless internet and dont get chareged more

  • u should of got a data plan

are u sure u went into the settings and connected to ur wireless

  • I was listening with interest to your Optus debacle. Then you started swearing. Dirty Potty Mouth. Shame on you :P

  • yes, shame on me!

  • hey

i know this question is going to sound dumb but do you actually turn the wifi connection on in your iphone. sorry about that question making you seem dumb i don't think that about you at all i think u are very intellegent from seeing your other videos but yeah because if u do not turn on the wifi capability you will be using optus internet not your own. many of my friends have iphones and didn't know that and got over charged so that might be the problem that you are having too.

  • Yeah I had it on...I got it sorted all out after the second bill ^_^

  • ps thanks for taking the time to tell me though...very nice of you ^_^

  • absolutely no problem at all

  • Manque you're spot on.

Also, the usage meter on the iPhone won't log and in-app data use. My data was exceeding my included amount even though I was under on my phone meter every month. I've had my iPhone for a year and only knew of this data discrepancy when I blasted them for overcharging me time and time again. Mind you, each time I did this they credited my account. Having the in-phone meter log less data than the carrier meter is a sneaky way to make a profit.

  • Lovely silly stupid lady did you think about turning on your wifi on your iphonesettings/wifi/on. u dumb dumb, secondly do u have wifi at home, are there antennas on your modem, if there are not guess what stupid, u cant use it.

  • yes wifi was on !!! and god do you really think I dont know if i have wifi !! omfg how stupid can people get!

  • Every Optus Iphone cap has data included in the plan so in other words unless your using more than 250MB of data each month via the optus network you should only get charged $49 However, If you turned 3G off via the Iphone settings menu (It will not connect!).. even if you try It will not let you connect to the internet through Optus and will automatically prompt you to connect to a WIFI network. it is not monitored by Optus and therefor you can't be charged for use through your own wifi network

  • Thats ok and im not trying to blame you as i know alot of people dont just click with this stuff. i Also commented on one of your other videos just then .

  • Thats good to hear but Optus had done nothing wrong except for not explaining to you how to use the internet properly. They cant see how much data you have used if you were using your own wifi connection. Thats a fact and i hope someone who reads this can verify to. All im saying is its not all their fault. You missunderstand how the technology works. All the people leaving good comments about your vid dont understand technology either (as far as this goes)

  • Most people don't, we rely on the information that is given to us because a lot of this new technology is had to understand, especially for older people...young people tend to take technology for granted because they are born into it...thanks for the info and input

  • and also when your out and you "want to check your emails" how did u think you would connect to the internet if you didnt want to go through Optus? does not make sense.

  • Even if u turn 3G off you phone will still connect through Optus GPRS (slower then 3G) and you will be charged UNLESS you have WIFI turned ON then it will connect through your home wireless and you will not be charged. I agree the sales person shoudl have made this more clear to you when getting the phone BUT people should not get internet phones if they do not understand how to use it properly. Optus cant even see how much you download through your wifi as it is not their service at all

  • $49.95 cap? never heard of it. I work at an optus dealer. There is a $49 cap. You really dont know what your talking about. if u have wifi turned on then your phone will connect through your wirellss router and NOT Optus. Did u turn on wifi when you were at home? If not then the iphone will of coarse connect through the Optus 3G network and you will be charged. I think you have missunderstood how to use the internet on your phone. i know i am right about what i have said.

  • I dont care if you've heard of it or not , that's the plan Im on 49.95 ...anyway its all sorted it out the apologised and gave me credits.

  • turn on ur wireless go on prepaid

  • you need use wireless in network settings i have iphone on prepaid best way

  • You need to go into settings and turn on wifi to be able to access your wireless internet. Turning off 3g only makes the Internet connection slower when your trying to connect to the optus network. You might want to read the instructions before blaming the company!!

  • another optus employee I take it?...

I most certainly will blame them, I went by what they told me!

and honestly who EVER reads the instructions.

  • you were right!! Sometimes bastards do that

  • Iphone sucks. Get a Nokia N95 8gb, does everything and more, less the touch screen.

  • Abieteh321 I Take it you work for optus ???????

  • gday well why the fuck would they have wifi on the phone if you cant use it without being charged.

I have a iphone i turned 3g of and use it on wifi and havent been charged a cent for down loads.

So that shoots your theory out the door

  • the sales people that sold it to me told me, one would think they would know dont you feel... also they left me on my old plan when they had a plan especially for iphone that was exactly the same price but allowed me a certain number of mbs to download...so yes I blame optus and their sales people!

  • so

    1. they knew my whole purpose for getting the phone was the internet, why didnt they offer me the new plan instead of leaving me on the old one!

    2. they knew I wanted it for the internet and I specifically asked if it would go through my wireless and not optus and was told yes!

  • i see they are doing ipod tests on those phones can a landrover squish it or can it survive a 6th floor fling out window:) i guess its to keep charging innocent guys like yourself a fee, dirty bastards,im like you i bye the chit if i got the money

  • I agree. I had an unlimited plan at 60 a month when a new provider came to town. It was unlimited everything, text, data, internet, no roaming, long distance...everything. Every month the bill was always higher, I would call them up they would give me credit, then the next month the bill would be even higher.. I feel your pain....

  • Not to take away from your rant, but I love your closing statement the most...........

"Piss me off ! The bahhhhhsters"

  • Vicky, the phone providers in the U.S. do the same type scams too.

  • F#$%ing scums...

I guess that's how corporations are kept prosperous... a small scam here another little there and that multiplied with all those hundreds of thousands or millions of users/consumers ... that's a lot of f***ing money

someone could and SHOULD sue them for that

since it's not mentioned in the user manual, or on the box

  • You tell.em! My husband &I had a plan through verizon for our cell phones the bill was suppose to be $129.00 per month and it kept getting larger each month,,,I think they scam all of us!

  • you effing tell em i luv u

  • Dear manque! Dont use wireless tecnolegy for your health!.....

  • Outrageous!

  • Thanks for the heads up Vicky. I'm with those bastards and I recently came off contract and now they keep offering me all kinds of deals to sign back up. Think I'll go talk to Telstra!

  • Watch out......same room, different furniture! I got bitten by telstra, rang them up, cancelled everything! I urge caution matey!

  • Thanks mate, just had a friend screwed by vodafone as well, took their number off them and gave it to someone else. Un - bloody - believable!

  • thats it Vicky rip em a new one you go girl
