guys, you should never count on anyone..they are gonna let you down, give up on you with the first difficulty.always stand up for yourselves and trust nobody but yourself. It sounds pessimistic but that's the truth.that's what the missing piece did,and got happy :)))
This was posted on my wall by a friend of mine. It couldnt of come at a better time, I was having a rough time with my classes and homelife. And this just instantly inspired me. I loved it. I actually almost cried. I will pass this on, most definitely. I did not know about Shel Silverstein, but now i do.
I totally agree with linlrienelen above - Shel lived in the same world we do - a world fraught with problems but also with hops, the hope of man's good and kind heart. I love his ability to poke fun and get us to smile, whisper and get us to listen, sniff and get us to cry, what Shel Silverstein was - in fact - brilliant - he got us to realize and understand and take action. To make change. Gold bless you Shel!
I love The Missing Piece but I have never heard of this book! I love it so much! Even better than The Missing Piece because this one was a little easier for me to understand, but they are both so beautiful and inspiring.
I think everyone needs to watch this, no matter what.
I think that, in the end, the one who fits us just right isn't who we're looking for...but the one who will teach us to grow and change for the better, so we can roll on our own, and then roll beside someone. I think that instead of looking for the one who "fits us just right", we should be looking for our own "Big O". ♥
i thought it said getting a piece from big "O"......i was not sure of the name...... that explains that wheel of cheese i saw running from that slice of pizza the other day.....ok....thanks
you need to be complete to have healthy relationships, be happy with yourself and things will fall into place, you can't need someone or soemthing to be happy b/c one day they end and then where are you
Its about finding yourself and whatever completes you. Not a guy or a girl necessarily unless thats what meaning it has for you. I loved it and the regular missing piece one about the ball that just rolls along. Favorites and thumbs up for sure. Great music btw...fits perfectly
Not related solely to this video, but to this stories in general: I think it is highly abstracted and therefore almost useless. The piece wants to roll. So roll then! The excessive parts will wear off in time. But, what about more complex desires and plans - what is excessive then? Further, what is the point of fabricating silly stories for, I guess, teens and younger adults? If the person needs to roll by itself, then why does everybody offer help, inspiration, stories and still more help?
@vjexman I think your missing the point, the story is trying to tell us that we need to be "whole" before we can happy. Relying for someone or something to come along to make you "whole" is not the answer. You need to proactive. It's about establishing a strong base (rolling by yourself) and then you can go out into the world and seek what you want to make you happy/"whole". Complex desires and plans can be achieved once your fundamentally stable and complete as a person.
i think the "missing piece" is someone who is looking for the right "guy" or "girl" to be with. And Maybe, The Big O is someone who is very strong, and he gave the missing piece advice.
he gave him advice that you dont need a lover to feel whole, you just have to role on with life, and if someone wants to be in your life, they will.
I'm so glad you were able to animate this beautiful story! One of my favorites. I use to have The Giving Tree animated but lost it :( it was before you tube was born.
...........This is exactly how I feel. This how I felt in elementary school. This is how I REALLY felt in my four years of hell in high school; However, I'm currently beginning to change shape as I strive though my first year in college.
I think i've always felt like a missing peice with a need to be needed, and i recently met somebody who i thought i needed to be needed by, but i think this person is teaching me to lift, pull and flop so that eventualy i'll roll on my own
I think i've always felt like a missing peice with a need to be needed, and i recently met somebody who i thought i needed to be needed by, but i think this person is teaching me to lift, pull and flop so that eventualy i'll roll on my own :3
A beautiful reminder that we can evolve into something better - something beautiful and complete in and of ourselves... able to be true partners with another, rather than a dependant or co-dependant of one another.
I think it means that you need to complete yourself. There is a quote "Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend." And sometimes someone can complete you by allowing you to complete yourself. I think.
It's telling us that we need to learn to roll by ourselves. It can be likened unto people who need to grow to be their own person without relying on someone else. So the two Os can roll together, but separately. They are both their own person but in a way they are one.
It is thought- provoking. Sometimes, it is hard to find someone that fits. Change ourselves to fit into others? Ha, maybe it is a better idea to change ourselves to "roll" by ourselves happily.
This is a very meaningful video....I think females esp can learn about common mistakes we all make and maybe even start to see the right path through the trees...
Its not about drugs way to miss the point. It's for males to realize there ARE sane and complete women in this world so just better yourself and quit trippin on the bullshit
@hitsugaya1001 it can mean different things for different people. that's why it;s so beautiful. it can be about drugs and alcohol, sex or love, friendship or life, and maybe even just surviving your workplace or high school...
this song came from a "reflection" album. dunno the song. but i've been searching for it. it was called happiness or something like that. i believe. i could be wrong
I honestly have no idea what this video is about. It obvious had sad overtones, but apparently I just don't know enough about relationships to make any connection. Oh well, it was still nicely animated!
i got this on facebook and i loved it so much. thanks for being part of this. calm music and nice drawing with a true story. i was reading the text loud for myself sitting in the dark room and it was a nice experience to be part of the animation and the story. thanks a lotM
What I love about Shel Silversteins books is that he knew how to put such distressing or burdensome life problems into a form that (almost) everyone, even young children can grasp. He broke things down to their simplest form, in words and his art. While youre reading a seemingly silly story about a wedge trying to fit somewhere, a light goes on in your head, and all of a sudden you understand profoundly what he's trying to teach.
My neighbour just showed me this... tears came up.. and i just said... "ima roll in nao..." -

Whoever puts his/her life in one of those cartoons is a pesimist loser. How do you know you find the missing piece if no piece is perfect? We are imperfect beings in an imperfect world. I know someone that identifies with these cartoons. Excuse me! Open your eyes; this video clearly says that pieces can change. If you find someone you like/love, you shape each other so you can fit in each other. Love is blind and deaf. You can't sit and wait or go looking for yourself; everybody is looking.
View again. This is about not to be co-dependant. Co-dependency is like a disease. All of us can live and love with commitment but without co-dependence. If you can´t understand this, then you are sick.
i totally agree with you. I just want to add something more on your saying. Healthy relationship need healthy people. Together they live. The missing piece and the one looking for missing piece symbolize unhealthy people looking for someone that make them look ok when they are not and never will if they continue co-depend on each other. Is like you putting your problem to someone else and let your other half to carry your burden. True happiness only happens to two healthy individuals.
Beautiful! Absolutely beautiful. We have to thank you for uploading this and illustrating the author's story.
And by the way, do you know what's the artist name of the first song? I know the title is called "Our Love" but I just do not know who's the composer of the song.

that was cute its been a while since i've read the book what that straight out of it or an adaptation. Cause what i remember of it was the circle rolling and looking for the missing piece and finding it, i dunno.
Wow. I remember reading that as a kid. I had no idea it was about the emotional struggle of figuring out love. I checked it out again b/c of Quagmire on Family Guy reccomending it. Leave it to a pick up artist to know more about love than anyone else!
Nice one. Thanks for the upload. We can all learn from this. ^^

The first one is called, "our love". The second one is from the soundtrack "Sense and Sensibility" called, "Excellent Notion" by Patrick Doyle.

that was cute its been a while since i've read the book what that straight out of it or an adaptation.
