I bought this just for Hydro thunder. I can't believe you never heard of race drivin. I barely ever went to the arcades and i saw it everytime. I like the game.
Bought it just because of the Rush The rock, and got a lot good games that I really didn't care about before, but find out to be really good, Rush 2049 makes it worthy buying this colection on its own, Hydro and Off Road Thunder are also pretty nice, the rest I consider like bonus.
RACE DRIVING. I remember playing it at the Arcades. Yes, I was lucky to play the 3 monitor set up when I was young. My friend had the game for the SEGA GENESIS..
And yes, they changed the name to HARD DRIVING. Like you said, Race Driving sounds stupid! ;)
hey swag i dont know if you know this but what happened with offroad thunder when it froze that means that it was a showstopper bug causing the game to freeze or crash
Badlands is effectively the spiritual successor to Atari's previous racing games Super Sprint and Championship Sprint.
At 1:41, I noticed that they gave Ivan "Ironman" Stewart some sunglasses and a mustache, due to the license to use him being expired. The game was not originally developed or published by Williams, Midway, or Atari Games but by the Leland Corporation (which was acquired by WMS Industries, the holding company of said developers, in 1994).
What the hell? I haven't come across a single review of this title mentioning how incredibly glitchy this game is. This is a total garbage title that isn't even worth 5 bucks unless you wanna play the one of the only games that have no glitches like Hydro Thunder. Are you reviewers deaf and blind? Rush The Rock and 2049, Stun Runner, Race Drivin', and Offroad Thunder are all glitchy as hell.
You were pretty harsh on Race Drivin' , it was essentially an update of Hard Drivin' which was the World's first solid 3D polygonal racing game. Also the influence for Virtua Racing and Daytona.
It's a game that has not aged well at all. Again, that was the first time I had played it and I usually try to imagine myself playing it when the game actually came out. But I guarantee that if I played this game 15 years ago I would have been just as bored with it.
You'd have enjoyed it more in the original arcade though. It was a total driving experience, force feedback steering wheel, vibrating chair that jolted if you crashed. It was more a theme park ride.
Oh, Super Off Road asks for your birthday in the arcade as it was a save system, easier to remember than a password. So it was incredibly rare for two people to have the same name and birthdate.
and forgot to say, One odd thing I noticed when I had this game on Xbox was all the 3D games (Rush, Hydro Thunder, Offroad Thunder) were actually emulations of the dreamcast port, not the original arcade. Odd huh?
i played hydro thunder in a pizza place and i loved it im sure i wont like it as much on a home console but hey i just prefer racing games in arcades and stuff cuz of the feal it makes me feal like racing...
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 had a lot of sequels to the games on the first collection; it wasn't really different enough. Plus, I was in the mood to review some driving games, which I haven't done a whole lot of before.
I actually Bought Hydro Thunder on N64. So yea. I love Hydro thunder. the funny part, I wasted a total of 56 dollars on HT alone because its that great. Plus there was a tournament once. Got, I love that game.
The announcer in the offroad thunder is hilarious. I liked the ones in Hydro thinder more. I lol'd at your imitation of the announcer swag. Thanks for doing that. Hydro Thunder STILL kicks ass up until now. Hope they bring it in XBL
I liked ending 1 best since you made fun of the cliche beating up a character from the video game. Ending 2 was much more cliche since you just helped him up and then he hit you in the balls. Very cliche. LOL!
Ah I loved to play Super Off Roud with friends in the arcade, great fun!
Also... I never knew Race Driver was an arcade game originally, I have a diskette laying around somewhere with that game for PC/DOS. But now I know where the hell that timer came from! If you hit anything you'd blow up too, only 3 tracks... in other words it was total crap.

Wait, it's 'Lightning' Kevin Lydy", one of the graphic designers of the original arcade game.

It's funny when you get creeped out by the Offroad Thunder Announcer's sayings!
Still, an awesome review, this looks like a cool game collection.
I do remember seeing that Stun Runner game at a hotel in Cooperstown, but I don't remember it having a long seat cushion.
