It all depends on what band really, Psyclon Nine has a couple complex riffs, as well as other bands, but mostly they just make a riff or two and repeat it throughout the song.

i listen to tons of black metal, i said that most bands cant do their voice that well live. example, cradle of filth, they are my favorite band and Dani is a great vocalist but what he does on stage just isnt as good as on the album. his growls are completely different. shagrath from dimmu borgir can do pretty well also. im just saying, nero can sound almost like on an album but didnt u read the other comments??? he uses distortions.

Cradle of Filth hasn't been Black Metal since Cruelty. I'm not even gonna comment on Dimmu... It's your taste not mine, so I won't bash it. And yes, most mainstream Black Metal bands use gimmicks on their vocal tracks, which would explain why they're mainstream. And if you listen closely enough, you can definetly tell Nero uses the same gimmicks live. Show me a video of him without a mic and I'll side with you.
