  • Not wanting to be rude, Stephen, but the one about 'health by living a biblical live' made me lol! Casting out the demons of sickness by transferring them into pigs and having sex with your daughters (like Lot did), servants (Hagar), the wife of your general (Batsheba), your multiple brides AND their servants (Jacob) and your brother's widow (Onan), I suppose!

Theodore Dalrymple's book is a gem, though, and the Mel Starr historical whodunnits sound fun. I will give those a try.

  • @Smallpotato1965 Thanks for commenting. You fall into the common trap of assuming that because something is mentioned in the Bible it is approved. One of the strengths of the Bible is that many of its heroes' failings are recorded.

King David's aadultery with Bathsheba which you mention is recorded in the Bible but severely condemned, David's prayer of repentance concerning this episode is recorded in Psalm 51.

Do consider actually reading 'None of These Diseases', you may be surprised.

Hmm, yes, but Lot was considered the most wonderful and righteous man for offering his virgin daughters to be mass raped by the mob. And Onan? God did not think him wicked because he masturbated, as is commonly thought, but because he had pulled out prematurely several times when having sex with his brother's widow, "denying his brother children".

Point is, our morals and ideas about sex and 'wickedness' have changed.

But I will might just read that book yet.

Alas, the library of my University does not carry the book. I would like to read it, though, because I'm writing my Phd thesis (History of Ancient Medicine) about, among other things, the dangers of retrospective diagnosis.

Could you tell me if the authors, when talking about the prevention of leprosy, deferentiate between the modern concept (Hansen's Disease), the Hebrew "sara't" of Leviticus (mistranslated as leprosy) and Celsus' "elephantiasis"?

  • @Smallpotato1965 I don't think so, right now I donlt have time to check. It is wdely available. You're right of course about Onan, I assumed everyone knew that. Its true to say that our morals and ideas about sex have changed-the results are there for all to see.

the book is widely available, I can understand why a university might not carry it since Biblical ieas are not popular.

  • Thanks for all the video that exists here, you are an extraordinary man

  • And how might he be rude? In none of the 350 so videos he has made has he ever be rude. Don't make stupid comments and just don't look at the videos!

  • @haboobooster132 Gretings and thanks for dropping in to comment.

As I have said before, criticism is welcome, but critics can expect me to visit their channel and comment on twhat I find there.

I note that on your channel you ask people to sign up for rabbit rescue. I have shot, killed and eaten around 100 rabbits, and a few deer too, so I won't be signing up.

However, I support you right to free speech.

    kind regards

  • Thanks for the tour. Should you ever visit Charlottesville Virginia by all means go to Montecello, but also visit the Lawn at the University of Virginia,. They have glassed off and preserved the pavilion which was Poe's room. It's a very evocative place, earthy and exquisite. You can feel the presence of Poe in a drunken debauch writing...and thinking. Again, thanks and cheers.
