  • DianeC wasthe real Mrs James Bond Connery at one time. She also starred with the Duke in a Western.

  • I like Hombre as its one movie that Paul Newman doesn't laugh at himself in and really lives his role in his expressions.

  • One of the best movies ever made. Compelling story, superior script, celestial cast, realistic, suspenseful, full of surprises, loaded with memorable scenes and lines, beautifully filmed and socially relevant. The most honest western ever made. Nowhere in this movie is there even a hint of baloney. ("I have a question. How are you going to get back down that hill?") Its slow but steady pace oozes of hard life in the blistering hot southwest.

  • "Cicero Grimes meet John Russell."

  • as for the "big mistake" whos to say what transpired after the shootout at the end. the film finishes and cuts to credits, the story if you can use your imagination would have continued. its not a flaw, its just the way the movie chose to end.

  • the 1 vs 2 shootout with newman at the end of this movie gives me chills

  • Great movie, the trailer not so great.

  • Why Diane Cilento didn't at least get nominated for this movie is a travesty.

  • Este filme é maravilhoso. Deve ter tido erros. Sim. Mas eles não ofuscam o talento deste elenco, de primeira. Barbara rush é dez! Paul,diane... estao ótimos Ah e hoje com tanta tecnologia, tem filmes com erros tão grotescos... Let's go Hombre!!!!!

  • you have put a hole in me!!!

  • one of the best, period. the shootout was as realistic as it gets, which is rare.

  • Best Film Paul Ever Did

  • Richard Boone's presence in flicks is always no bullshit and in your face. It's a shame they often restrained him. As for this, it's a bit disappointing, Newman is too quiet for any character development to occur.

  • Brilliant stuff as usual m8

  • "Because I can cut it lady".

  • great movie, we need more clips of this movie on you utbe

  • Among Paul Newman's best. Richard Boone was great too. However, the least appreciated character is the Mexican bandido with the lisp. " I would like to know at least his name''-his dying words and the greatest respect anyone shows in that entire film to Newman's character. The man, a complete outcast, like the John Russell character, who kills him understands what kind of a Hombre he was.I think that was a master stroke to that finale.Thank you for sharing.

  • Bestmannme08 you are an ignorant, homophobic ignoramus, who is not fit to lick Paul Newman's boots.

It is unfortunate that everyone can now spout their fanatical and hateful poison on the internet no matter how stupid they are.

  • ZaeBo4, you are absolutely spot on. Whomever wrote this script should be applauded. Brilliant dialogue brought to life by a brilliant cast.

  • That's because it was written by brilliant dialogue writer, Elmore Leonard!

  • Some of the best dialogue in a movie.

  • 'Now what do you thing hell is going to look like' RIP Richard Boone

  • Newman and Richard Boone were great in the movie. Check out Richard Boone in RIO CONCHOS.

  • Just saw this a couple of days ago, imensely enjoyed it. God damn did paul Newman ever know how to deliver the goods. RIP Old Blue Eyes.

  • @mikedrummonds Did you spot the big big mistake in the movie?

  • @dublinandy ...No, what was that?

  • @violinbloke At the end at the house on the hill, one of the bad guys rides around to the rear of the house,Hombre warns the kid to watch the back, realising the danger.

Strange thing is the bad guy never reappears,he must have got lost,or said "to hell with this,I'm off" or maybe they just ran out of film

  • @dublinandy i wouldn't call that a flaw, the "single" out back is waiting for them, he is "waiting in ambush" if they don't go there...? he is just that, " a single".

  • @dublinandy Wasn't there a bandit on the top of the hill or mountain in the final shootout who was suddenly never heard from again?

  • @tomkes100douchebag He didnt just disappear he was just on the other side of the mountain. He was closing the back door of their escape route, and when Russel shot and killed the the two in the front they simply went through the front door. THey were free. He probably ran off or realized it was over since the rest of his group was gone. I think it was great ending. John russel was the main character after all, an extra action scene would make the movie less meaningful and be pointless.

  • @Joesire I see your point, but I think he needed to be accounted for even if that meant just a brief glimpse of him running. Why set the scene and leave the viewer hanging, that seems to where pointlessness enters the equation.

  • "Mister, you got a lot of bark on you" I loved this movie. Newman is da man! "his name was John Russell"

  • This is probably the best Western of all time, at least in my view.

  • See "A Fistful of Dynamite" too...

  • when someone asks 'what's your fave movie ever?' 4 me hombre comes to mind

r-boone as cicero grimes is as evil a character ever filmed - gc scott in hustler aside

f-march is as fine an actor ever worked

    & d-cilento?- w-o-m-a-n personified

as i kid i id'd w/ newman of course; but as a grown up balsam's beat down realist hits much closer to home

hombre's 'meet you at delgado's' line b4 he evens the score w/ that soap opera guy is simply 1 of the greatest in film -- classic

  • Yes, a great film! Boone's character is the most menacing....along with Lee Marvin's 'Walker'....testosterone plus.

The scene in the bar where Newman hits the cowboy bigot....very 'economical' violence!

  • @violinbloke I wonder how the West would have been won if they were'nt such 'bigots.'How far do you think Richard Gere would have got in those times? Probably not fair to judge them while we sit here so comfortably because of the dirty work of conquest that they carried out.

  • @B2L4U7E Did you spot the big big mistake in the movie?

  • this is one of my favorite paul newman films.his character is just awesome to watch.love some of the issues this movie touches on especially for that era.also i am a huge fan of martin balsam, that guy is excellent weather he's doing movies or appearing in tv shows, and you have to put paul newman at the top of the list when you talk about great actors.

  • Harrison Fords first movie!

  • Really? Did he play the youth 'Billy Lee what's your last name?'?

  • That's not Harrison Ford. It sure looks like him in that "Billy Lee" scene, but I checked every where, and that is certainly not the future Indiana Jones

  • I didn't think it was...I think HF only became an actor quite late in life.

  • Yeah...the original commenter was probably kidding

  • @violinbloke Quite late? Check out his Han Solo in the Star Wars movies, guite young . . .

  • "Cause I can cut it." Paul Neuman's American Badass Russell from HOMBRE!

  • Boone; "Now you put 2 bullets in me, don't try it again" Newman; "that's usually enough for most of em'"

  • Another great line after Boone delivers his ultimatum:

"I got a question. How you gonna get back down that hill?"

  • i luv this flick newman/russell AND boone/grimes boone is evil personified but man what a performance didnt even get nominated how 'bout these two too by grimes: 'mister you got some hard bark on you' & 'now just what do you suppose hell is gonna look like?' & diane cilento was caliente top 10 flicks ever no doubt about
  • @JustAintthatWay did you spot the big big mistake in the film?

  • Thank you for posting this. One of the most overlooked, underrated westerns made. Newman's character was a diamond hard moralist without any ambiguity.

  • That's right..and well put. I think he was one of the few characters in the film with 'moral courage' etc.

  • Kubrickfan1, I totally agree. Some othe the most memorable lines ever written in one movie.

  • man thats a helluva good description

    of mister john russell

  • Western! Great movie, one of my favorites. Been wondering when Hombre would show up on youtube.

    Thanks

  • Yes, I think it's a great film. You don't hear it talked about much, but Paul Newman really played the 'noble savage' well,I think. Actually, Richard Boone made a fine baddy as well!

  • Richard Boone was great and played a believable part. Newman was fantastic playing an Apache. Indian's that I know liked his role because it showed their humble side. The shoot out scene in the end was well done in that the good guy is always good to the end and the bad guys are always bad. Yep, this movie is really a classic western.

  • @violinbloke Did you spot the big big mistake in the movie?

  • HOMBRE

  • Nice i love this movie
