He knows the A-hearts because every other card in the deck is reversed from the one next to it. The back of every card has a rough finish so it sticks to each other as he thumbs through. He memorizes the deck's two suites are facing opposite ways. Certain numbered cards are next to other ones. He stops when he know the seven is next to the 10s (let's say). If she would have picked a card facing the opposite of the 7-hearts, he would turn the deck over.

he did it wrong because when he looked through the deck of cards there were some odd and some even and you should have 1 side completly even and the other side completly odd.

cuz the most common way of performing the trick is pretending that u are using an invisible deck that is given to the audience. u have them pick a card from the invisible deck and then u "transform" the invisible deck to a real deck and prove its the same by showing them the card they chose from the invisible deck which is faced down from all the rest
