  • Do some proper news, bitches!!

  • Who gives a fuck what he said?! I call ladies sweetie, honey, darling - it doesn't mean anything!

  • He said "sweetie" because he is an arrogant elitist.

  • oh my god who cares! americans are way too afraid of words!!

  • Tell that to your husband,ya guna call him sexist when he calls ya sweetie.

  • This is pissing me off Women like so dramatic he was being polite whats wrong being called sweetie women wise the fuck up

  • Such shabby shabby reporting . Hillary Clinton WAS NOT the first woman to run for president of the U.S. How horrible to use such a platform for MISEDUCATION.

  • i personally like being called sweetie.....that may be cuz of where im from but it is a sign of enderment

  • truelly amazing. i never thought i would see the word 'Sweetie" as a negative thing. He wasn't even talking down to her, he was just being polite. People amaze me

  • @ninmachine109

THATS TRUE MAN. AND THIS IS A WORD WOMEN USE A LOT WHEN TALKING TO MEN I DONT UNDERSTAND IM NOT AMERICAN BUT IVE TALKED TO AMERICAN WOMEN WHO HAVE CALLED ME SWEETIE ITS A GOOD WORD I DONT KNOW WHATS THE BIG DEAL WITH THIS.. THIS LOOKS LIKE A GOSSIP NEWS PROGRAM NOT A SERIOUS NEWS CHANNEL MAKE A BIG PROBLEM FOR THAT SIMPLE WORD

  • This is important News~

  • Who cares what these thought police think?

This kind of nonsense--females nonsense--only has power if you let it.

    So why let it?

Just shut these people out, the same way the Klan etc is.

  • Excuses, excuses.

  • Bonnie is certainly no sweetie, more like dragon ...

  • Bonnie Erbe' s dumb and boring.

  • This news was biased from the beginning, even the phrasing of the questions encourages the audience to take their side instead of letting the audience decide. Bad reporting- unbalanced.

  • ALL Conservatives and Republicans should be sterilized....

  • So Obama needs to be sterilized since he is a Neo-Con who has Neo-Cons in his Cabinet.

The great Martin Luther King Jr needs to be sterlilized since he is a Republican.

Without Republicans there would still be slavery in the US. Abolitionists are Republicans.

Democrats created and still support the KKK.

  • @rlibos Thats right and anyone else, you don't agree with, Right?

  • Sweetie? My god. Is this really news? Wouldn't it be worse if he called her a b**ch?

  • @Kieran195 LoL yeah, that woulda been a much more newsworthy. Little clip of him going "Hang on bitch, I'm working on it." Jesus, they'd have had a hay day with that.

  • you people make a storm out of a glass of water, get a life,

  • this is what British call news......pathetic

  • very interesting seeing this on the BBC. LOL! It depends on culture but I would be a little surprised if he called me sweetie. I was called ma'am when I was 16 but didn't know at that age that it was more of a respect thing. I just thought it meant been old. Still not wild about the term. Interesting.

  • @Steelers26426 beats the shit out of fox news any day lol

  • This is ridiculous. Sweetie sounds like a compliment. It meants your sweet and cute.

  • I mean, I have to agree that people are being overly sensitive, as usual. Obama is not a sexist, and does not deserve that lable. But do you really think the reporter was trying to be sweet and cute when she asked that, or was she trying to be a professional?

  • Geesh, it is a term of endearment and he didn't mean it negatively. Is there no forgiveness for human error? Get over it!

  • Damn talk about blowing things out of porportion he meant nothing sexist by it.God really women have grown so sensitive it is ridiculous.

  • damn that's no big deal ! why are they making so much of a deal about it !?

  • Ofcourse the apology received more attention than the original comment, the media was all for him.

  • there nothing wrong with that he can say that

  • omigod what is the big deal? poor guy. its not sexist its just like an endearment

  • He used the term "sweetie", now he's such a sexist person... I guess certain individuals are looking for the most petty reasons to be against him.

  • Well said. It is a flattering term... what the fuck is everyones problem?

  • I guess if that's the only issue critics find wrong with him, then he's not bad at all. Dirty politics...

  • This WAS a controversy?...GTFOH

  • LOL he apologized for this!??! What the hell if anybody actually got offended by him saying that has got issues. It's probably just the wierd ass feminists.

  • i would faint if he called me sweetie, probably.

  • This is ridiculous.

Obama calls a woman sweetie and he's considered a sexist. While Sarah Palin votes for a bill where rape victims have to pay for their rape examinations and that diesn't make the news.

  • BBC once again lies to its viewers...

Barack Obama is not the first black man to run for president of the USA, and Hillary is not the first woman to run for president of the USA. Jesse Jackson and Alan Keyes (who are both black) ran for president long before Obama ever did (and Obama is bi-racial). Also, Elizabeth Dole ran for president before Hillary ever did.

Obama's use of the word "sweetie" to a professional woman displays the element of superiority he feels over other people...

  • i think what the bbc means is 'realistically' run for president. they're just being pc!

  • "In parts of the American Deep South, like Hawaii, Cambridge, Chicago, textile factories in Allentown PA, and Chrysler factories in Detroit, "Sweetie", or "Honey" and "Darling", are all used as harmless terms of endearment with no sexism implied. So it seems it's a matter of context..."

    Parody, Thy Name is BBC.

  • You know what...I think you are right. Sweetie is only used commonly for women because the definition of Sweetie is-- pleasing to the mind or feelings-- and that is obvisouly not men.

  • Cindy Mc Cain seems to be a kind, beautiful and gentle soul. However, I believe that she is a battered wife. The woman kowtows and acts so skittishly in the presence of her husband. I don't believe for one moment that an over-zealous supporter hurt her arm which is in a sling these days.

  • this is ridiculous

i dont like obama but women freaking out over sweetie is so childish and just trying to nit pick at shit he says

  • Well we can all start calling professional men our Sugar then right? Or how about's Honey? Or Baby, or sweetie? Is that what your equals at work call you?

  • wow, i wish the news actually covered something important...

it might have been informal, but it doesn't make him sexist.

these are people who take things too personally.

I'm sticking up for Obama and I don't even like him all that much...!

  • If you don't think this is sexist your intellienge is ghosty.

  • means alot coming from a person who can't spell intelligence...

besides, this is another person. Not a robot, he has a personality and that was definately not a sexist remark. It was informal, not sexist. If he had called a man "bud" or something, we wouldn't have heard a word about it.

  • But we couldn't call these men SWEETIE or HONEY COULD We? dah. Definately a sexist remark

  • i see where you are coming from, but... sweetie isn't used for men such as dude, brother, pal, or bud isn't generally used for women. it was INFORMAL. if he had called a man 'dude' would it have been sexist? not at all. if you call a woman 'dude' it wouldn't fit either would it? it's not common to call a man sweetie and it's not common to call a woman dude. tell me how you can call this sexist?

  • This woman was on the job as a professional reporter. He is not going to call a male reporter dude. Not a chance. It would be worldwide headlines. It shows that he doens't see working women as worthy of the same dignity that he gives male professionals. Informal talk is kept for informal situations. Talking with a news reporter with a camera crew and calling the reporter Sweeties while you are conducting a campaign showed his true sexist colors. This wasn't a student or a campgain music rally.

  • Sweetie isn't used as a sexist remark in any situation...it's used alot when people don't know the name of other people, some places more than others. Just because you are not familiar with someone calling someone sweetie doesn't mean it's sexist. why should he have to treat a person in a professional role with more respect than a student anyway? in a country for equal rights you say it's ok for him to show (in your eyes)disrespect to a student? if yes, there's something wrong with you...

  • It is not the student/professional context it is the context of a professional work situation compared to a social/informal situation. Just because you know of people who regularly call female people sweetie in professional contexts doesn't mean that the general public accepts this. As the video says, in the wrong circumstances, women and men alike would not like to be called sweetie. Sweetie isnt a term of respect for professional situations anymore than calling him BOY would be. Use Miss, etc.

  • i have watched some of the videos on your page, and see that you are wholeheartedly against Obama. It's obvious that even if this wasn't sexist you would try to twist it to make him sound sexist. You are a closed-minded individual with the purpose of undermining Obama. To be honest with you, i wouldn't vote for him, or any of the other candidates that ran for the 08 presidency. I'm not a fan of Obama by any means and think that he may be a twisted individual indeed, but this is not sexist...

  • O lord! What do we want "ME TARZAN YOU JANE?" Some men abuse women and call them all sorts of foul, derogatory, four-letter word names. The Senator said "sweetie" and we are offended? Come on girls, let's be real. Lighten up.

  • Okay Dumb Dick, big thug, bro, dude, fryhead, meathead, muscle head, Brute, crackhead, .. anything goes in a professional context cause some men are abusive.. Just cause some fleas don't know how to show respect doesn't mean our presidental candidates should be disrespectful meatheads. Great standards you have of holding yourself up to what? Nothng? class up low life.

  • haha. your an idiot. im sure youre ugly and no one calls you sweetie. youre just mad peggy did.

  • sunbeansnflowerstuv: First off learn how to spell intelligence and what the hell is a ghosty? If you think sweetie is sexist, how about Mccain calling his own wife a cunt or making a joke about rape victims? Those are obvious sexist remarks, and I've noticed that you failed to mention them.

I call a lot of women sweetie, and none have ever called me sexist. Women I don't know call me honey, darlin, and sweeite all of the time and I see nothing wrong with it. Stop being so damn sensitive!

  • when did "sweetie" make a person sexist

  • Honestly, sexist or not, he's a hell of a lot less sexist than McCain, who has a 0% approval rating from Planned Parenthood. Even if he has some outdated views, he's not trying to change the laws of the country to accommodate them.

  • McCain has 0% approval rating from Planned Parenthood because he is 100% against abortion. Think before you post, please.

  • lmao. yo the media and feminists are always looking to hate

  • My boss used to call me "sweetie" and "honey". I asked him politely to stop and he said he repected me more for addressing it. It's a term of endearment, which I think is not appropriate in a professional setting. What if he had called a male reporter "sweetie"? Would that be appropriate?

  • hed probably not use a term at all. "hang on a sec" maybe "hang on a sec man'

  • helloooo wake up people, whats wrong with "sweaty" really???

  • He's Black, and any idiot knows that Black American English includes a lot of deep south colloquialisms. It's not racism, sexism, or any ism. It's just Obama being informal when he should be a bit more formal.

Any feminist who says they'll vote McCain instead of Obama, thus throwing away a woman's right to choose, is no true feminist. She's just a man-hater or a racist, or a Republican who is lying about her affiliation.

  • @ZeroCorpse

    no dummy

he was raised by whites in hawaii and created his career in chicago

why would he have back/southern slang?

he is an egomaniac and calling a woman is condescending

how would you have liked it if bush called a woman sweetie?

he would have been played off as a chauvinistic devil, but if bho does it he is just a nice guy!

    bullshit!

  • @ZeroCorpse It's also because it was a reporter and they can be iritating at times, I'm sure male reporters have copped worse.

  • typical bbc propaganda. The "deep south" if full of sexist pigs, which does not make it acceptable. Also, Obama is a CHICAGOAN! not deep south at all! He is a LAWYER! does he not get you do not call professional women in a professional environment "sweetie"? What does his wife have to do with the question? She is not a feminist and his marriage to her proves nothing!

  • How up-tight can people get! What's so wrong with 'sweetie'? I think I've heard George Bush call people worse! Does this really merit being on prime time news?? If so then the extreme politically correct have won.

  • Oh my god, Obama used the S word. He's going straight to hell. Her point that he is fresh and new and has to watch what he says. Stupid point, that's why people like him. He seems like a real person, not some frickin robot.
