I don't remember the exact size - they chewed through it a year later! But it was made for rats and larger rodents. All the gerbil wheels looked too small to me, as they force the gerbil to bend backwards too much. This one was just a standard wheel for rats - it didn't cost much, but it had to be free standing, nobody seems to sell cheap big wheels that fit onto cages. So we had to weight it down with metal otherwise it would have been knocked over. Hope that helps!

we just got our gerbils a new, even bigger wheel, and it's so big I don't think they know it's a wheel yet :)

I have 2 gerbils... one is skinny and loves the wheel, one is fat and barely ever gets on it.
