MediaG3 has the answer! I was so happy when the FCC opened the "white space." Now schools, first responders, businesses and even individuals will benefit from this. Great step forward in opening the door to better communication.
This is pure bull and nothing but propaganda. Google and its Silicon Valley minons are making a spectrum grab pure and simple. Who would you trust with the public airwaves? Google or the broadcast industry? Say what you will about broadcasters, it is FREE and still a vital part of our nation's communications infrastructure. It's available to EVERYBODY, rich and poor. Let Google and their lackys get ahold of the spectrum and you can say bye bye to FREE PUBLIC airwaves.
This is not a spectrum grab, they are open it up for public use.
They will profit quite well in other ways from the use of the tech, either from patents or from more people using Google, buying computers in general.
TVs are trying to stop it as they don't want better Internet since people download TV shows without ads. This kind of tech would allow for free city wide networks to popup. Neighbours could share all their downloaded tv. ISPs have sued to stop cities free public wifi in the past.
If you want White Space to have existence don't listen to the CTIA and their propaganda. I'm for new wireless innovation. Wi-Fi on steroids is the future. It levels out the playing field. Example, just image if every electronic product had a wireless IP address............. VERY ONE WAKE UP BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!!!!Remember the oil industry? Well, we are here once again. Unfortunately history tells us it's always the one that has the Bigger Johnson wins. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-mobile...etc
This is simple vote against CTIA. Anything that they come up with will be advocating for all cellular providers. Which they are totally against the White Space opportunity.
There are bits of spectrum between TV channels they are left there to prevent interference between channels. Because 700mhz can travel long distances and through walls these Giant companies are making the FCC allow them to use the space Problem is these devices will interfere with your cable connection if the cabling in your wall isn't shielded correctly and if one of these devices is defective it will ruin TV reception in your area. But I trust microsoft look how well their other products work.
Google basically lost the FCC airwave auction and wants other airwaves for free. The free the airwaves movement basically wants to control of the airwaves that are presently used for radio microphones. Most people may not realize the importance of this spectrum, but enjoy the benefits of it every day. Motion pictures, TV, concerts, broadway type shows & church services use radio microphones. Without the benefit of these microphones the sound quality of these could go down the tubes.
fcc approved this unanimously november 4, most developed countries already have this available and will break the monopolies that some companies have in areas, another bonus is speed it will put cable broadband to shame
Really, you people are this dumb? You don't have any clue what he is talking about? Do you think that TV works on Magic? Do you even understand how signal strength works or even what the spectrum is? Do you understand the fundamental principals involved with this and how it will benefit society? Do a little research before you even comment. If not please do us all a favor and crawl back under your rock...
really ? this technology can help health care and even freedom ? looks so cool !
whatever this technology is, this video is just a damn stupid political ad. I mean, why don't they put a talking baby or a war veteran at some point ? it would have been so much more convincing !
basically we already have wireless internet...sort of. We can route our wired internet thru a router to broadcast that wireless signal to a small location like a house. This would bring the internet right to computers via antenna, on the same channels that we used to get TV broadcast signals on.
lol spooky orwellian sounding... they will be able to monitor us through our televisions now! oh no! hey does this guy remind anyone else of that creepy guy from half life? ha ha, technology is too much for me, bring back the victory garden! kinda sounds cool though.
I disagree on the use of white spaces it will close the gaps and eliminate the products already in place and are dysfunctional. this a great video though thanks
what about upload speeds?

The broadcast airwaves ARE public use! You can't get much more "public" than FREE.
