Savour Derek's sublime gift like you would savour the finest Scottish malt whisky 50% of your listening should be directed towards the bass line at any one time when listening to Empires and Dance or Sons and Fascination.

Simple Minds as beautiful art form died when Derek and Brian left.

I just loved playing this when I was about 17 and always loved Dereks Bass playing.

Funny thing is I can't play many others, 'Someone somewhere' gets me every time as you have to be so precise.

Every bass line, from Derek, seems almost impossible to master. Yeah, the root notes are accessible, however, the fills (and frills) are other-worldly to me.

The stamina at the end starts to wain, but that's an excellent rendition with very few bum notes throughout.
