this car is incredibly fast, but i think subaru need to stop being cheap and build them with better quality materials, my 2010 already had the timing belt and the ac compressor belt replaced, with less than 13k miles on it!
Yep. Knowing I was getting a new motor, what more could break? When I bought the car question #1 was to confirm their policy if I ran into this issue (which over 100+ others did). So, really, what more could have happened?
Yep. Full long block (without accessories) as the video description indicates. All in all they took excellent care of me. This was in the winter, and so they detailed the whole interior, washed and waxed the exterior.
@ericlfg ya but in the end all dealers leave your ass a lil more stretched than when you came in...its just the facts....as long as you leave thinking you got a good deal then they win...in the end....they always get thier money...
@jray0079 - I hear you, but seeing as this is my first Subaru, my impression is that they aren't going to leave me crying in a dark alley somewhere with the taste of motor oil on my lips. In my mind, so long as MY experience is flawless and I don't dread bringing the car into the shop then they've done a good job. I'm not concerned where they get their money (Subaru of Canada, 3rd parties, etc). We'll see though.
holy shit, I thought this is a seriously good car, nimble, 4wd traction, large displacement turbo power. Never came to expect a company building car for 50+ years to make an engine that last only 5600km, the shortest lifespan I've ever heard shorter than Ro80 in fact.
Subaru sourced a part, specifically rod bearings ,from a 3rd party (as do 3/4 of the car manufacturers out there). The rod bearing failed and Subaru owned up to it. I think the better position to look at would be the fact that Subaru has been building cars all over the world for 50+ years, manufacturing literally millions of units, and only having a handful of issues like this. (including other models). I'd buy another Subaru without question.
You should be fine. This issue primarily occurred with models with a build date of 08/08 and 08/09.
Even if it did happen, Subaru will own up to the problem right away and replace the motor, no questions asked, roughly within a week. Ultimately it sucked that it happened, but I was very well taken care of by Subaru which really helped.
is it an issue with not enough break in time or is it a general issue with the boxer in general. and have they fixed this problem with newer models. just wondering because the wrx 265 is in the lead for which turbo car i wana buy
It's no longer an issue. It was isolated to a specific build date (08/08 and 08/09 - last year). It was suspected to be an issue with a specific batch of rod bearings which would go either 150 miles or 10,000 miles. This wasn't a break-in period issue. Buy the 'rex, you'll love it.
NICE! thats even better. cause if you beat the old one just a few times, you can start out fresh with this one lols. but yeah, the WRX's had a shitty silver bearing that i heard of on a forum that subaru had just switched to, now its fixed, but its covered under the warranty incase anyone was wondering about getting a new WRX
I own an '05 STi and the car has been pretty much bulletproof and I haven't heard of a single complaint about the boxer engine. Most of the people I talk to all say the same thing... that they can't believe the beating the engine takes. There might have been a few lemons produced but I assure you they are few and far between.
i've heard that one million too many times with subaru's. theres like 3 trillion youtube vids of new subaru's with blown engines. poor boxers can't take any sory of abuse.
Believe me, these engines can take abuse. The deal is (well excluding this case which subaru fixed) alot of ppl over power the engine and it blows. Subaru owners heavily modified and if not done right or done to the end of the engines capacity you will blow an engine. Also those commercials for subaru the "Feel the Love" campaign is true, we are in love with our cars which is why we post, chat, and care about the cars to this level.
None of my vehicles are General Motors, which is the only one owned by the government (60% US, 20% Canada, 12% UAW) and had you known what you were talking about you'd know that Chrysler LLC paid back their bailout money (gov't loan, which puts a gov't lein, or partial "ownership" on them) within 60 days of receiving it, while GM JUST began paying theirs back this year and won't be done til mid 2011. We'll see how Fiat management does...They are, however, the owner of Maserati and Ferrari.
Oh and to answer your question of how the Chrysler and Dodge are treating me, they both have 130,000+ miles on each and both are on original transmission and engine. The Ram had an oxygen sensor, as did the van. Other than that, nothing but routine maintenance. The Ram tow's and the van gets driven quite hard....not even a tick from either engine/transmission (or anything on it for that matter) in over 13 years each. So I'd say they've both treated me very loyaly.
I had just changed to synthetic that week when it threw the bearing. I ran through the first 10k km after the motor was replaced using a 50 / 50 blend of regular and synthetic. Next change will be 100% synthetic.
This issue seemed to be an isolated incident with a specific range of dates. My machine has been running very well since I picked it up having been repaired.
My wife's '09 just spun a bearing too. It's nowhere near as loud as some of these videos but the type of sound is exactly the same. She has 13K km on it, completely stock, and it was built 07/08. We're bringing it to the dealership first thing Monday morning. I've got a stage 2 '08 STI that's running great (knock on wood) and had an '05 STi that had no engine issues even after 68K km with a stage 2 Protune. It seems most of these failures occurred with cars built between 07/08 and 08/08.
ya np...anways the Legacy 2010 it will be for sale soon (and as usual that haS the GT version)... so if you will like a little bit mor confort and still over 250HP...thats a good choice....You know how subaru is!....you dont really like the car when you first see it!... but is something that grows :) especially after the first drive!!
And the 2010 Legacy is totally new. New suspension and everything. 5.5sec 0-60 and on high performance all seasons, it has been tested at 0.88g's (which equals what the older one got on sport tires). On nice grippy sport tires, they 2010 should out grip any sedan in its class.
