He hasn't suggested any changes, but the solution isn't increasing the power of the state: it's smashing capitalism and replacing it with a rational, democratic system. I'm having a bit of a problem there myself: democratic != rational, IMHO. But just as increasing state power in the current system doesn't yield good results, neither does deregulating industry. It's our job as human beings to try to reign in both.

The only way to rectify Reich's remarks is to amend them to say that he believes in less competition among private citizens. The only alternative to less competition in a capitalistic society is socialism, which leads to a reduced quality of life for all. There is no way to win if you can't compete. Remember that forced equality, or equal outcomes, can only be wrought by government. The "citizen side of my brain" will not be voting for President Obama.

Remember, to Robert Reich you are too stupid to know how to know what's best for you in a free society. He never made the baseball team in high school so he wants less competition. What Reich says is artificial, nebulous construct which unfortunately is impossible to refute. The "consumer side of our brains" contrasted with the "citizen side of our brains" is a ridiculous concept to behold. A business hires lobbyists in order to ensure that its stakeholders' interests are represented.

those who are intelligent and able to adapt prosper.
those who are unable to adapt don't do so well.

Well he's right that capitalism threatens "democracy", but considering capitalism is about freedom of choice and democracy is about mob rule, I prefer capitalism.
You can say "no" to a corporation a lot more easily than you can a bureaucrat with a court order and armed backup.

Look at the USSR in the late 70s and China in the early 90s. Look at Cuba NOW! That is where communism takes you. No one gets richer. Elite get more power. Promises are broken, and the poor stay poor.

Democracy sucks. It is mob rule. And the free market is the where the best rise to the top, best products, best services, best goods. And the INDIVIDUAL decide what is best for them.
