i paused the video at 0:04 and read the comments. Went back up and started the video again and spent approximately 10 seconds wondering if you were an amputee...it was freaking me out!!
But you're not, just a normal four limbed person who can one arm snatch alot of weight. :-/
Really, really awesome. I've been looking at one arm snatches on here for an hour, trying to find examples of good form to emulate, and this is the best I've seen.
You are a fuckin beast. RESPECT. This is one of the best lifts I've seen on youtube period and all I do is look at bodybuilding vids all day. Thats prolly why :p lol. Great form.
the key to beat pb is not to over train...both (gym&discus) u have to stop after u see and feel that u can't bench press more then u have at the peak of the practice, ... i throw 12-15 throws in training twice a week and all must be over 50m when it's going under i stop u should do the same but ur's must be say over 60-62m u will see that the body heals better and with will make u stronger and in result better stronger throws. good man keep it up
Best one hand snatch on `utube`. If you hadn't have placed your hand on the floor. I would have passed you in competition. (what is your body weight? (I did 75kg one hand snatch @ 81kg body weight)) on all one handed lifts on this site, there is none with any technique.( Technique = Poundage) You stand head and shoulders above anyone else that I have seen.
From a BAWLA 4 times single arm British Weightlifting Champion. From the 1980's.
At this time i was 120k and I my best lift was 102.5k. Thanks for the kind words. I am a discus thrower and this is great fun for training. Usually I can do 90k now at any time with no hand touch. My pb lift is on some camera cassette and I wish I could post it. This one had a hand touch as well though. The most that I have done with no touch is 100k.
I have not found a db that is heavy enough to see? Some people think that db is harder but I would say that with both ways there are some ad/disad. I would like to try one day, I think that i could do 200+? I dead lifted the Thomas Inch DB replica on the first try. I think that weight was not too heavy (176) but limited pulling only by grip. I have snatched a 50lb blob/ broken half DB end. Honestly with a DB I have no clue how far past 200 I could go.
i disagree that the db is easier, the weight must stay further away from the body, creating a mechanical disadvantage due to leverage. Once you get used to balancing the barbell i think it is easier, plus oly bars are 28mm while heavy db's are almost always fatter in comparison, so if youre not using straps it is much more taxing on the grip. Opinions vary, but this one is mine. I weigh less than 200 pounds and my 1 arm bb snatch is 155 but my db snatch is 130, both strapless
wow this is amazing jason well done, i managed 50 kg at this the other day this is high level stuff for someone that only trains in olympic style lifts for something else, i wd love to know what u throw!!!
WOW ! THAT IS WORLD CLASSS.... well done... i noticed some people critisize this ?????!!!!! lol stupid only athletes like ourselves (well you) lol notice the hard training required for this stuff, i do discus i do 35 meters (any good)? :D im 16 and weigh 65 kg tho (lanky lol!)
I am not attempting to jump. This is just the result of applying force to the ground and it getting transfered to the bar. The weight here is not that heavy.on heavier lifts I have to stay grounded longer in big force with slower velocity. As a coach, i dont teach nor practice jumping in olympic lifts, or throws. i feel that lifting the legs in hip flexion is a result of making a full and powerful hip extension. The lifting of the legs forward should be a natural and postural controlling move.
Kaden56 this type of lift develops far superior strength, power, athletic ability, to lifts such as bench press, curls, any type of machine work now my question to you is what is the point of those exercises?
Hey Jason, i am a strength coach for the football team at Tech. I venture down to the bubble every now and then to pick up supplements and stuff and of course Midnight Maneuevers. I knew the room looked familiar. Is this you in the video?
Funny enough, I have probably seen you around before. Yeah that's me in the clip. I'd like to meet you one day. You should come by during your free time, well if there's any left in the FTC!
Yeah dude, this is the weightroom in the BUBBLE. I am the strength coach for the Texas Tech Track and Field teams. My name is Jason Young. Are you a fellow Red Raider? Actually my all-time pr without straps and open grip (no hook) is 90k. Without strap and no hook + no drop (power catch)= 85k. The day that this lift was recorded I hit 90k X 5 reps. I can usually do 90k w/ strap anytime and 80k w/o anytime.
I decided to do these after watching your video. I'm up to 95 lb haha. But I swear I'm no chump (450 lb squat). I'm beginning to realize strength doesnt always equal power. And captain, I need more power
very very impressive lift, and i must comment on fabulous technique precision and power (speed)!!!! was amazing, one of the most impressive lifts, what are you full snatching dare i ask because that is unbelievable!? :L
How would you know? It seems that this comment board lends itself to highly prickish douchebag comments, with no/limited experience in elite level athletics. Many have commented about the safety of this lift but from the view of athletes I train and myself, there is less potential for shoulder girdle problems. This is based on the fact that the opposite arm doesn't lock you into certain injurous positions and the athlete acutally has more degrees of freedom to escape the bar on a miss. Thanks?
thanks for calling my comment douchebag, i didnt insult u in anyway possible, however i do know you are asking for trouble, how do i know u asked me! well it happened to my frienad at the gym.
You are responding but not learning. How many Baseball pitchers have to get Tommy John surgery? What about baskeball players and ACL's or Sprinters with pulled hams. How many guys do you know that have gone for max benches and tore a pec? Does every NFL football player get paralyzed for life or every Nascar driver die in fatal accident? NO! One persons injury doesn't verify danger of a lift. I have done this lift 10 years, no injuries. But I did cut open my toe on the curb a 2 months ago!
No joke there! I only do 85, nearly did 95. I dont fall under the weight though. I'm also new to the move, and 16. Still, Goerner did 110 when he was 14. Mostly I'm good a curlers, my max preacher being 60 and normal db curl being 90(110lb if I cheat). And yes, its weight per dumbell not combined. How much you do?
I love seeing old-time lifts still used today. It wasn't uncommon to see a one-arm snatch for reps with well over 200 pounds 80-90 years ago, but those guys trained for it constantly. VERY impressive for the modern era, Jason.
yes it is 90k. I can usually do this weight almost any time. Sorry you don't think it is true but some great shotputters like Mike Stulce could do 100k for reps. My pr is only 102.5k.

wow u dont know anything lol. jason young is a olympian discus thrower noob. 1 hand snatch builds up the explosion needed to throw the discus. he probably does regular snatches too, just adds this on so he can work on one side more. dumbass noob.
what difference dose it make to you? Your the type of person that is so straight its anoying. Probably the type that puts claims in at every opertunity.
Wow I typed my own name in U tube to see what would pop up, (my name is Jason Young also) and WoW thats awsome!!! I'll have to start pumping iron to keep the good name of Jason Young Strong in all parts of the world :)
this is insane. I'm a strong guy, but I don't think I can do that much in a two handed snatch, much less one handed with such stabilty. Fucking awesome.
I havn't really done a clean max since 2001. I hit 175k hang clean but now I usually don't do that lift anymore. I have trained at around 190k from the floor, just clean no jerk. I have done high pulls up to 210k X 3 reps. I think that I could do 200k clean if I maxed but the clean is hard on my long arms (mostly elbows). So as for big lifts, I just do pulls mostly so that I can continue to throw and make recovery.
whats the song in the background?

Ironmind Sells some "Big Boy Dumbbells" virtually the same as the dumbbell Paul Anderson used to 1 Arm Press 300.
It fits standard plates, not olympic ones. Those are easy to pick up at any used sports store for cheap.

this is insane.
