  • Your music has helped me lived. In a sense it even helped me survive! Thanks maynard, From a fellow wolverine

  • There are those of us with troubled minds, because of one reason or another, he knows we are out here because he is kindred. If would could express ourselves as successfully as he, we might...but most of us lack the gift, so we rely on our brother maynard and his ever growing charisma and sterling personality.

  • Johnathan Davis is the one dislike

  • fucking legend

  • That's REAL Maynard. Awesome. I love all the alter egos, but I must say this Maynard, brutal honesty & real, its refreshing to see. Thanks for helping me.

  • "if the songs don't help me, how will they help, you?"

    that is gold

  • and thats why i thank maynard until this day since i first heard his lyrics and his voice... he has aided me in many different levels.. good man..TOOL #1

  • The humbling river made me cry when I was really drunk at a party. It WAS REALLY AWKWARD.

  • At 00:44 Maynard states a very clear and articulate assessment in regards to a lot of the dead ends in the music industry. Basically the problem is that there is a huge surplus of musicians who are not progressive minded enough and lack emotional depth. These same musicians then break into the music industry GET POPULAR and fizzle out.

  • Why is the top comment about Eddie Vedder lol

  • @kittytoast because he 's awesome

  • He pretty much just said Tool is going to be finished soon. :(

  • @mafr0o Maybe not. He just talks about music, not Tool specifically. Plus, a new Puscifer album just came out. And somehow I don't think MJK would ever be able to not write/sing/perform music.

  • @kittytoast

mmm, He's talking about the more aggressive component of the music here, basically stating that as he progresses in life and works out his earlier problems, the aggression becomes less and less necessary as a component of the music. It makes sense. Heal thy self and move on to the next road.

  • I just love this guy. Him and Eddie Vedder are two guys I really look up to when it comes to artists who have thought shit through, or are openly in the process of doing so. Just brilliant guys.

  • @ronnysoeberg yea alot better than some faggot who shoots himself in the head real fucking mature=kurt cobain

  • @misfitsfan28 you're misinformed. Kurt Cobain was an amazing human being. His music was original and so was he. He made sure his daughter would be taken care of before he did the deed, at least she would have been if Courtney didn't get to the money. Because he actually did kill himself, he has more balls than a lot of us IMO. I like to view suicide as an escape route if shit gets really bad like it did for Kurt, but I don't think I'd have the balls to actually pull it off..

  • @RaoulDuke0924 an escape route? na man thats just not cool, it takes more balls to stand up and live life anybody can pull a stupid trigger it takes a real man to go on

  • Comment removed

  • @misfitsfan28 hey man i don't disagree with you. but some of US don't have the balls to go on. no need to bash them

  • @RaoulDuke0924 then they need help. theres no need to kill yourself what ever the reason, they dont know suffering ive whatched my aunt is in a wheel chair she cant move she can hardly eat without throwing it back up she has to drug herself up because of the excruciating pain, but still she keeps smiling everytime i see her, she dont give up . so ya only pussies kill themselves thats the truth

  • @misfitsfan28 I liked Kurt, he was troubled and hey, sometimes people kill themselves. That happens. It's a shame, but unless you've been so low that you can't see a way out it's unfair to judge the guy. That being said, Kurt is not a guy I look up to, I do like his music, though. Guess it's obligatory since I grew up in the 90s. Hehe.

  • @ronnysoeberg ya i was born in 95, but anyways i dont know how he was troubled besides the stomach aches he claimed to have had, but other than that he seemed well

  • @ronnysoeberg they guy was a fucking rich no troubles nothing

  • @misfitsfan28 What?

  • @JackOFBlades111 pardon i mean the guy was a rich mother fucker

  • @misfitsfan28 Maynard? He was abused horribly, I dont think being rich matters in that situation.

  • This is Why Tool > Everything

  • I love this man. Whether he realizes it or not, he has impacted people on a deep, personal level with his music. He says that if the songs can't help him that it can't help us. We love his music, not necessarily because it helps us move forward through hardships, but simply because it is great music. The music isn't about healing. It is about the harmony of 4 outstanding musicians (Tool, in this case) when they get up on stage and play.

  • @coreyhhh Well said. That combination of healing and incredible music is what makes them so significant for music, art, and spirituality. I don't know if significant is the right word though...It doesn't really do them justice.

  • @Cwes71 I know. I cannot express enough how important Tool is to me. Tool really is an appropriate name for them. Anyone can use their music as a tool for whatever their dilemma is. Once you've healed, you can just go back and rock out to it lol.

  • amazing he is worth 45 million

  • 1:25 "... to the end of their days". *girl in the background* "ehehehe"

  • I love you MJKeenan

  • i believe he will coninue with music and wine ,,,,,new tool album coming out

  • interesting... i think he and the boys shouldve ended on a high point with Lateralus

  • @skateNappreciate so 10.000 days was a letdown according to you?

  • @SERUNONURES Then you sir, Skate, are a fool and do not deserve to listen to it. 10k days is AMAZING - more so than Lateralus, and Aenima, and Undertow, and Opiate. Granted Aenima and Lateralus are amazing, 10k days tops them.

  • @Grenadeh

    Completely subjective my friend.

I personally prefer aenima than 10000 days, you are just stating nonsense.

  • @Grenadeh they are pretty much on the same lever of awesomeness. i love lateralus more just cause it was my first tool cd. but i totally fell in love with 10k days too.

  • Maynard, I hope you always keep pushing your own limits. You're never done building up, breaking through, tearing down, pushing out -- hell, you yourself have said that, and Lateralus taught me aspects of the human condition that my faith never could have by itself. I know that what you have to offer won't always have anything to do with me, or at least not yet. Whether you're with my band of choice, or with one of your other projects, I know you'll be true. And that matters more to me. Thanks.

  • @residue102 you mad brah? fifteen people agree with him and so do i. maybe you should watch the video again and listen carefully.

  • @salemsblood does it matter if you agree? does that mean you are right? or that you're group is right? anyways, yeah maybe i will listen again. To clarify, are you agreeing that Maynard said he has no wounds left to heal?

  • Oh, your music helps me Maynard. Trust me.

  • whoa whoa this dude isnt god. fuck off. he is genius, and nothing more.

  • i remember when i went to see this movie in a really small theater in my town and i just smiled through the entire thing...especially this part. it just made me happy. And dont worry Maynard, your songs have helped me throught a lot, and im glad your issues have been worked out

  • he is a rare rare rare man in a music a true artist and a great guy

  • What is the name of the song in the background?

  • Comment removed

  • @ZambiziFishing 'The Humbling River'...

  • Maynard é modesto, discreto e muito inteligente em suas composições. Diferente de tantos outros artistas ele nem se importa em ser um. É meu cantor preferido.

  • Maynard is god

  • Beauty>Truth Truth>Beauty

  • grumpy little fucker. well... now I'm bummed.

  • Proof that this man and all he is associated with never sold out and did it right. Fucking one in a million Im glad to have witnessed his art

  • @Alcheman11 wow! his words are powerful

  • I LOVE YOU MAYNARD! We know why you sing to us; and we thank you

  • Your songs help me, Maynard! Don't worry! C:

  • Derp

  • He's not done making music. Tool are working on their next studio album. Word is it's not going great though, but still.

  • i concur...i appreciate the music created. but its mainly for himself and a cant be a taken as a reason for your own being. if you live because? cool but do not give him credit for your success nor any failure. im not mjk

  • James Maynard Keenan.. = Legend of art... Keep making music my friend many people learn so much from your art.. :D

  • Well, this certainly explains why 10,000 Days fell short of expectations

  • @AliceNchainz011 are you serious? that album was deep as deep can get. It's actually just as good as his others if not better.

  • @AliceNchainz011 I personally enjoy that album more than the others I'd say

  • I couldn't agree more with Maynard.

  • maynard is so inspirational

  • Great documentary, I'm glad to see the Puscifer album come out after this.

I was worried I wasn't gonna hear any more Maynard.

  • aww what happened to that guy going AWOL and confessing his love for maynard as the top comment ;_;

  • @SystematicAdvert still here!

  • ya awesome isis jacket!

  • Intelligent guy, but not an artists artist, and I think he would agree. If the music had served it's purpose, then make different music - worked for Radiohead. I think he's just a person of varied interest that doesn't see music as his primary source of creative sustenance, and to be honest Metal is an angry young mans game. Nor should it be for a man approaching or surpassing middle age to still have that anger. New interests need to be found like Bruce Dickinson's piloting. Good for them.

  • @DanMcCaffrey

What do you mean not an artists artist? if there is any musician who IS an artists artist it's this guy. Why? because he understands that arts ancient function is as a cathartic healing process, not just for the sake of recognition and esteem. Art is beyond labels too, his age has nothing to do with that. He is making new music now with puscifer, which is a more experimental project than tool.

  • @DanMcCaffrey for one thing, I don't think Tool was ever "metal", but granted, there were definitely some elements there. I'm a huge Radiohead fan too, but I don't think you're being fair with saying they're not making different music. 10,000 Days is a LONG ways away from Opiate and Undertow. Radiohead's biggest variance in sound comes from using different tools. When you compare new and old stuff that uses the same tools (instruments), they have changed in maturity about equally as Tool has.

  • @DanMcCaffrey Have you even listened to TOOL? You obviously don't know or hear the changes that have taken place within the band and each members input that has kept them from being the same band that they started out as. Tools music has changed. It is different.

  • @cauterful changing in a positive way. they just keep putting out more and more great artistic songs.

  • @DanMcCaffrey I know your comment wasn't meant to be rude, before I reply :)

But Tool's music has changed greatly over time.. really it has. And I wouldn't say they were metal, just like Deftones aren't metal. Or Nirvana aren't metal.

  • TIM AND ERICCCCCC!

  • fuckin love this guy

  • i think he has got a freedom to choose, and not to be judged..especially from dumb ass people..what he will do,or when or why..

go Maynard...shine on forever my benevolent sun...

  • he says... and then Tool just announced going back into the studio... so much for no more screaming your head of eh Maynard? :P

  • Comment removed

  • @slightermusic Tour announced too! Gonna see them January 25th in Toronto!

  • Maynards lyrics are amazing

  • amazing how much music can help through the dark times

  • Tool helped take me out of my deep deep depression and brought me up to the happiest point in life. I dont go a single day w/o listening to them. Reflection literally changed my life for the better.

  • Maybe he wants to teach people, and likes to teach people, but just in a very passive way. like, "hear my song, and learn from it."

  • I understand that he feels like, "if you don't feel better after your screaming, how effective was your screaming". But my teacher says in your art form, (whatever it is) you have to move on from self-therapy to outside yourself, or you will never really create true art. If those artists do or don't feel better from their work, doesn't make it any different from what he's doing- focus on self: 1st art, not true art. That focus is why he can't teach others his art, not the lack of knowledge.

  • Maynard music help my with many things.

  • is than an isis shirt at 0:30?

  • From making whine to wine-making...A lateral move! But seriously, Maynard is a great artist who has his wits about him. Kudos!

  • Tool opened my eyes to the truth about life, and that's all I needed for happiness. Thank you Maynard for opening my heart to the world of philosophy.

  • Tool consist of the perfect guys. Thank you Adam, Maynard, Danny, and Justin for contributing to the greatest band there will ever be.

  • A record label director doesn't like this video...

  • Loder: OK, on that note, do you have anything to say to your fans?

Keenan: Turn off your television. Go do something.

  • well said ..arne150..i love this side of maynard..

  • the condition of a civilization in decline

  • Chill out guys... he´s not done with music... he just has no wounds to heal anymore. He´s done in that sense, but he can do it for fun - see puscifer -, just like a hobby. And it´s still great. I think, that he´s really smart. He really developed himself as a human being and never fell into this rockstar crap and did everything exactly how he wants it to be, not wanting to be famous, nothing. He´s that kind of artist who let the art speaks, nothing more. You rarely see that today.

  • @arne150

    He has reached 46 & 2.

  • @arne150 exactly. I love maynard because he never conforms to any kind of musical mainstream or bullshit that you see other artists doing today. he does what he feels and for some reason I think that that is Maynard's secret of his success.

  • @Retrospectx9 he probably doesn´t even regard himself as a musician, but more as a guy with diverse interests - like we do. One (!) of those interests developed into a full-time job for some time, than he was interested in making wine and probably just thought:"Hey, I can get more out of this at the moment". Just like everyone quits a hobby or job he doesn´t like, same mind-set, because the god-like praise from his fans could brainwash him and he would lose all modesty.

  • @arne150 im with u 100%

  • @arne150 no wounds? why do you think that? all he said was he needs to heal from his wounds or else its like going in circles. not that he has no wounds? you are making shit up. you should shutup for the benefit of your friends and family. honestly, not mucking around or joking. you are poisoning people with your opinions which are not based on fact or truth. comeon man, arent things hard enough, without an uneducated person trying to teach people? like you are now? please man, honestly pls..

  • @residue102 you fool. Going in circles means repeating the same music...He doesn't want to make music that represents talked subjects and feelings lol. Everything him and tool do is based around a feeling, principals or emotion.

  • @MrGamerBazer well, i agree man. going in circles is like repeating the same music. that wasnt the point i was disputing. That guy said he had no wounds to heal. I was saying, you're wrong. Everyone has wounds until they're enlightened. And again, yes I agree that tool does base sonds on feelings, principals and emotions. but again, not really following what I was talking about.

  • @residue102 to clarify: actually he didn´t use the word "wound" during that interview, so you are judging me by what you think I meant by using that word, which you don´t know. With "wounds" I meant working through topics like child molestation and lots of other stuff left up for our interpretation. And considering the music he´s making now, his main-priority having switched to making wine, looking back to interviews with a more insecure shy younger MJK... it seems like he´s more at peace.

  • @arne150 yes but you used the word "no" wounds... sure, I guess i can understand the general drift of the message your trying to convey with the word wounds but you said he's got no wounds left to heal. Maynard didnt use the word wounds? I didnt say he did. The word wounds came from your initial post. Yes I agree he is seems more secure to me too.

  • @arne150 anyways i am sorry for rushing to a judgement. I get quite passionate with these important matters like truth. its so important man. However, as is my usual style :), I judged you to hastily. Just to clarify, my point wasnt definition of the word wounds, it was that you said he has no wounds...

  • @residue102

Putting my two cents in for a moment, I believe you can be enlightened and still bear wounds : )

  • @GooglyBee23 Well, I dont know mate, I'm not enlightened and I suppose its a pretty different feeling to the normal things I experience. also, the word "believe" does not equate truth... Its all in the perception and intention of the words... I understand ur point & do agree with what I believe you're intending, but, I also understand enlightenment to be a point past all the wounds, so that they dont feel bad anymore. really not sure. Its like an ant trying to understand the quantum physics...

  • @arne150 true people need to realise that this guy is one of these greatest people in the music industry for a long time. Not vocal (i think he's amazing but its all an opinion.) But morally.

He seems content with what he has and doesn't go looing for more.

Musicians, sports people and celebrities should take a look at him and tool :P

    Sorry for any bad spelling.

  • Great Post, Love TOOL. Especially Danny, One of the best drummers to come around in quite some time

  • Its amazing how everything he creates or contributes to is heavily accented with progression and evolution.

  • yes. thank u for undarstanding life and writeing about it ....................and undarstanding pain

  • holy fuck, that's the best thing i have ever heard!!!!

  • honostly listing to tool makes me depressed. there songs are so amazing but every single song well for the most part is depressing. anybody can relate to it in some way and it really touches your heart and its depressing haha i dunnoo make sense? great music though

  • The songs help others that can relate and helped him to move through and get to the other side so that he could move onto something else. A wonderful example of channeling in a productive way that resulted it seems in as much conclusion as possible and growth beyond that. I love it!

  • gotta respect that

  • Thank you MJK, you helped define my thought to manipulate sorrow and deepen my senses into a new being, and well, we share the same fuckin birthday

  • This is a great video but its kinda sad to watch because it feels like this is maynard telling us over time we probly wont see anymore of his music. He dosnt have the reason to "scream" anymore. This is understandable because if he were to write music without feeling it would be kinda like selling out or the music being faked just for the fans to have another album. Im a completly die hard maynard fan but if he dosnt feel the passion then he shouldnt try to push an album out without the feeling

  • @7svnth

I agree. I think this is why eventually when a band says what they have to say the "emotion" from the music they made feels accomplished and like you said there would be no feeling to it anymore cause they've passed that stage in their career.

  • Well said. Our expressions and communication, our art, our actions, it all helps us progress and better understand our experiences in this life.

  • As far as I'm concerned there's only one fault with this clip - it's not long enough.

Would love to hear more from Mr. Keenan.

  • me too

  • From this i understand his music didnt help him,.....and here it is he ,maikin wine...

    :-(

ironicly ,if he didnt think that way ,he wouldnt wrote such music...,i think .

although, i think he healped to me and a lot of people !

Maynard please, we need your music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Maynard James Keenan is my idol.

  • Maybards wisdom is beyond ones capability this man, is a genius of genius's I like the way he thinks, "If my song doesn't help me, them how will they help you?" Good will never dies. Much respect for this man and the band wanting to help.

  • Maynard, your song "Third Eye" made me grow a third eye... can you help me get rid of it please?

  • He is awesome!

  • hey looks like skinny right said fred

  • I love this!!

  • MJKeenan is one of the most influential and meditative people to me. So earthy and raw, but composed and seamless.

Also: Zero Dislikes. You see that youtube?

  • @heavyoxygen Who could dislike this? I challenge someone to find a fault with what he's saying in this clip.

  • He was successful in his expression to help me. This man is the reason I have been able to deal with what I have gone though in my short 26 years.

  • you, my friend, are a god among men.

  • Is this from some documentary, or is this it?

  • @acresground

Technically, it's a scene from Maynard's movie "Blood Into Wine." Go check it out! It's a great informative movie. :)

  • @IhasHax Thank YOU! Didn´t know there was a movie.

  • can someone help me understand what he says?? : ( between 0.48 -1.08 he starts eating words and i can't understand XD) ..i'm not english

  • @topogigiobagigio

He is explaining how people get into the music industry for the wrong reasons. "A desire to be desired". They don't have the proper foundation or right motives to deal with success or emotional trauma they might have experienced or will experience.

    Hope that helps

  • @ObzeRveTheBand I took a long journey of research and found out what the songs "third eye and lateralus" referr to. Basicly, i woke up and saw the true world around me. It is probably THE most important songs in human history and i am NOT exadurating. If you found out what i found out you would agree.

  • So, they play puscifer in the background, love it. great song.

  • @Jfuchs116 Whats song is it ??????????????

  • @thx210 Its the Humbling River by puscifer with out the music.

  • spanish subtitles please!
