I personally liked Gorillaz a lot better when they were just an animated band of outcasts who lived in a haunted recording studio and made kickass music.
Gorillaz is my medicine! I used to always have stress and anxiety problems before I listened to them. But ever since I started listening to this album, I've become a lot more relaxed and chill. I love this band!
@TheNewMightyChalaza Maybe that's why I can't experience stress... I used to listen to his front to back at least 5 times a day for 6 months when I was about 12 years old. I've become too laidback because of it :O Fuck it, I like it xD
As an older brother, I want my little siblings to live by that fucking chorus. The world is a darker place than they will realize for a long long time.
I also remember getting this album. i had my dad buy it for me. i will never forget it because that day was 9/11. i still have this album, im 19 now, and its still one f my faves along with alice in chains and pantera etc+
@hindusound Well the guy wants to experiment, sue him. Not to say I don't entirely disagree with you, my imagery of the band has faded since Plastic Beach, especially considering the creators decided showing their faces was a good idea. Anyway they've always been pretty versatile with the music, these days it's more electronic. It's not like real life bands haven't gone electronic.
@hindusound They change the style of their music every album...the 1st album was on Russel's style, Demon Days was Noodle, Plastic Beach was Murdoc, The Fall is 2D...I don't know if they will repeat the cycle, but each album has its strong, unique points that the others don't have.
Gorillaz: nice, complex rap beats that aren't plain in any way
Demon Days: uses a variety of sounds to create unexpected music like All Alone
@thexlonelyxzombieZ: To be fair, A good portion of the book was rubbish. Extremely entertaining Rubbish, but it just isn't a reliable source of information about the real band members and their creative process. Unfortunately, It's hard to find such sources.
@SonemonV2 Murdoc is the one who freaking led himself, 2-d and Noodle* to Plastic beach. And demon days was noodle except for O Green World and El Manana.

@kwizz321 Seriously..? Besides a bit of backstory (Russel's possession), none of that make's any sense.. The Gorillaz first concept album was Demon Days, and even then the songs' styles vary greatly. Personally, I can attribute songs like Stylo to the character of Murdoc (rough, grimy style; slick bass), or 19-2000 or Melancholy Hill to Noodle for the bright uplifting tones, or songs like Clint Eastwood or Dirty Harry to 2D for the downright funkiness.. But Ive never noticed any album trends..
@rhcphallofame Part 1. Murdoc said in an interview that each of the members had there own "piece." Gorillaz was written by 2D and Murdoc, but Russel had a big part with the hip hop and reggae feeling to it, so Murdoc called it Russels. Demon days was written primarily by Noodle, as she was the only one in Kong studios for months before they all came back. It was "her vision."
@rhcphallofame Part 2. Murdoc wrote almost all of Plastic Beach, because 2D and him were the only ones there, and 2D was held hostage. So this one was mostly Murdocs masterpiece. The latest one, The Fall, was form 2D. 2D said that he made this album from his iPad with different apps. He describes it as a road trip of America. The Fall was all 2D, none of Murdoc. I don't even think Murdoc knew about the album until it released under the Gorillaz name. I think he said this in an XFM radio thing.
@Sicpupyz122 tnx i knew some of tht stuff but thanks for filling in some of the details (I would know more but im not to far into "Rise of the Ogre yet"
When I listened to this song I heard the dog barking outside, and I thought for a few seconds that it was part of the song, but then I realized it was the dog and I went to shush him up. But it gave me the idea, that Gorillaz should make a song that sounds sort of like a back alley, bustling city kinda song. Like with cars makings sounds and dogs barking.
news just in theres a virus rampaging america called biebernidus or known as bieber fever but dont worry scientist found a cure listening to GORILLAZ XD no more of this bieber shit
My friend says he is a gorillaz fan but he hates this song. I honestly think that you HAVE TO LIKE THIS SONG to call oyurself a gorillaz fan, i mean, its sooo good. What doesnt he like about it? Damons vocals? What the hell is that saying? THe melodica is amazing and i love the drums...I just can't believe he doesnt like it. i'm sorry but if you dont like this then something is wrong in yo head and u=ya nedd to get it checked.
Can anyone give me the enitre lyrics? I want to learn them but sometimes I think I mishear. And online there's two different versions of the lyrics...one of them's incorrect and I'm not sure which one. Plus they also don't have what he sings in the back during the chorus and such. x-x
I love this song and I love the Gorillaz <3 ._. Just last night I had a dream I was going to see them in concert. I wish! T-T
Man every other house party I go to they bump some Hip-Pop industry shit or some pop music. Man they gotta bump the classics that's I roll when I roll lol
@PhantomAlxa99 Not sure, could be about learning to be careful about who you trust in, therefore becoming a genius. You know, "brother, sister too, do what you must do, dont trust people you meet, they may promise you that the river ain't deep".
@PhantomAlxa99 Good one. But I would have to go with D-side just because the song Hong Kong sounds so beautiful. But my all time fav is the album "Gorillaz", Then it "Demon Days"
@TourettesSomething Actually, that did occur to me. In North America as well as Britain the word is spelled "genius". You can do your own research if you don't believe me. Like I stated earlier "genious" is the incredibly common misspelling of the word. Most people go throughout life misspelling the word genius.
To anyone else who wants to reply I suggest looking the word up beforehand. Anyways, I love this song.
"Brother, sister too, do what you must do, don't trust people you meet... They might promise you, that the river aint deep" this song reminds me not to trust chicks... I'm tellin ya they're scandalous...
@Gorillazfan98 same story here. Except!!! When i was 3, I heard Dare in a commercial and begged my dad over and over again to buy me the song on itunes. And since, I NEVER forgot about Gorillaz. In fact, I'm obsessed with them, and Damon's voice! *nosebleed*
@ScaryMonstahh The English word which means "Extraordinary intellectual and creative power" is spelled as genius. "Genious" is the common misspelling of the word. You are correct about the album being spelled as Genious which to my guess is Damon's way of sarcasm.
This was the first album I ever bought, and it changed my life. In 2001, at about the age of 11, I realized that not all newer music sounded like shitty Nickelback butt-rock, Brittany Spears diva-pop or 50-Cent poser-thug rap. I loved how every song on this album had it's own unique sound and style. Gorillaz 1st album was like a gateway drug into the world of Indie.

@Jannto That's what I said... He said this is "Like" indie music and being "like" indie music means generally being unique. Indie means independent, but generally Indie music is unique or otherwise it wouldn't survive.
@Jannto I guess you could say that, but generally indie music is unique or even indie games. Indie games are successful because they are unique, and indie bands generally only make money because they are unique such as Cut Copy or The Presets.
@Jannto I know, but that only explains the origins of the word. Indie became a new culture, a new style, a new underground scene, not just an abreviation of the word "independent".
@Slig77 the gorillaz has this way of making me feel special, and I think if everyone looks hard enough, they all can find a song that touches them. Love them!
@Slig77 i can totally relate with what your saying... when i saw clint eastwood on tv for the first time, i liked it soo badly that i asked for my 7th birthday this album... i'm glad i did... i'm 18 now, i have all three albums and i think this song is one of the best they ever made...and it made me realize that i didn't need to like what the others did, i could be true to myself and say "hey, i like this; this is way awesomer and deeper that whatever your listening right now".REJECT FALSE ICONS
@Slig77 Same here. 1st album I bought, and it's fucking amazing, every song is fucking amazing. Just rediscovered Gorillaz today. I don't know how I ever forget about them. Fucking stupid on my part.
HIS IS THE STUPIDEST THING EVER!!! BUT I LOVE MY MOM AND DON'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES!

Jannto 4 months ago
@Jannto I know, but that only explains the origins of the word. Indie became a new culture, a new style, a new underground scene, not just an abreviation of the word "independent".

@FriedChickenofDeath6 i do see your point, and i SORT OF agree.
But as for the original arguement, I still dont think gorrillaz is indie
Jannto 4 months ago
@Jannto No, they certainly aren't.
