  • I like "she burns" more than "I burn", anyone else agree? not sayin "Iburn" isnt good, but this is pretty sick

  • I miss Lisa & damn, we were so much younger then - great times

  • Wow. You actually have a live, well filmed filmed version of "She Burns"?? That is so awesome!! I love how the guitarist was experimenting on stage, finding his niche. Hell, they were finding it together at this time. They eventually matured this song into "I Burn". Yes, they were from the same root, but were still two different songs. Actually, "She Burns" IS the root of "I Burn". A great band discovering what they can actually be... live, made my day. Where did you get this early footage?

  • I actually like this version better

  • Holy crap, did anyone else have to make it down those stairs behind the stage when you were really drunk...I remember..or barely remember...almost busting my ass on that fuckin' death trap.

  • @fathermackenzie11 I wish i could have been their

  • The Toadies were like The Zombies of the 90s a little to dirty and dark for the mainstream market BS but super talented, One of the great Metroplex bands.

  • is this from late '91? I saw them with Sauerwein maybe twice. But 3 or 4 times in Spring-Summer 1989. I'd say '89 is the early incarnation. Lots of people knew how great they were by the time the Axis Club closed. At least in DFW. They made an IMMEDIATE impression. I thought Pixies within first 10 seconds. Twenty years laters I hear some Screaming Trees.

  • I really like them. Very interesting sound.

  • fantastic.

  • Sweet! Thanks for posting this. It was awesome!

  • Like any group with a 'sound,' they appear to have written the same song a dozen different ways. Nothing wrong with that, especially since I enjoy both the sound and the song. Personally, I think these guys were way ahead of the curve for music to come. Thanks Toadies for being consistently 'Toady' and generally fun. Great band.

  • AC/DC has done the same song a dozen different ways too. Having seen both the Toadies and the Burden Bros. a few times, they never fail to put on a great show and rock hard. Same with AC/DC.

  • @mybadtexas AC DC uses the same chords not the same songs . This is the original version of i burn

    toadies 4 life bitch

  • We actually invited Darrell to join the band about two years after this video was made. We fired Tracey, the female guitar player, and asked Darrell to join. I'm the one playing the guitar in this video. I started the band with Todd (a.k.a. Vaden) in 1988 when we were working at a record store that Lisa also worked at.

  • Was the record store over off Camp Bowie. I remember getting all my TAPES, at the time, from Sound Warehouse. I've heard that's where yall worked. Since it's straight from the source, I thought I'd ask. Thanks --- A big Toadies fan.

  • Exactly, behind the El Fenix restaurant. Todd, Lisa, and I were there around 1988 to the early 90's. We actually sold some of our early recordings at that store - one which was like a six song cassette. Cool to hear from you.

  • @chm3rd: hey I remember buying that cassette from Todd back in the day. That was a cool experience. I saw you guys at Madhatter's a few times, then heard the tape was for sale in the the local section at Sound Warehouse on Camp Bowie. Imagine my surprise when Todd was there and got me a copy from the back. Good times!

  • @NatRohde Very cool! We'd always be stoked when someone would buy our cassette at Sound Warehouse, so thanks for that! Yeah, it was kinda like blackmarket Toadies 'cause Todd would have our cassettes in the back of the store. I think there was some political red tape we'd have to deal with if we wanted Sound Warehouse to put our stuff on the shelf. And we always enjoyed playing Madhatters, being in Fort Worth and playing the smaller venues, definitely great times!

  • I just found out that The Toadies will be in town here in SLC on Tuesday... ive seen them the 2 other times they have come to SLC and I WILL NOT MISS THEM AGAIN!

  • I heard the bassist chick is a lesbian. I dunno, I don't care... when she wears that Redwings hoodie I get hot.

  • Kind of an early incarnation of I Burn. Sweet. The Toadies are too damn underrated.

  • You're right that it is a early version of I Burn. We played this one for about 2 years, and then Todd wanted to shorten it. Lisa and I loved this version and were bummed about not playing it anymore. We all loved the lick that starts at 2:15, so we worked with that part and simply changed it to I Burn and made sure to keep a lot of feedback in the shorter version.

  • @jimbo2346 every fucking video i go to someone makes an "underrated" post and it's always top of the "overrated" comments

  • he moves like maynard james keenan

  • nice call both brilliant

  • looks like him too, except tall and with hair.

  • This is a great song-- I wish they had put this version on a CD somewhere.

  • There guitarist is bad ass the original one

  • OMG Trees is gone?!

    So many memories....

  • I miss Trees. Great Dallas venue.

  • Good classic prefamous toadies!

  • This song kicks ass....

Hope its on the new album.

  • thats a really bad ass song, i wish i could have this song on an album...

  • That's why you always, always, ALWAYS wear a condom.

    XP

  • Har har, I see what you did thar.

  • @KeroroGunsouTX That was random and funny!

  • It's cool but it must be good you have one not live.

  • fuck that this just proves how good they are live
