I went to do some stuff opposite of this, and I didn't realize it was still playing when I came back. I was surprised and, as per the usual, enjoying this very much. Thank you for the work and effort you put into these pieces sir.
I am in an acapella group at UVA and we recently sang at the white house's Christmas Party and they invited us to do another performance in the spring with a request from a staff member for Lullaby by Billy Joel. INSTANTLY I thought of this arrangement and how perfect you guys sound and I am wondering if I could somehow get this arrangement from you. My email is tbm3x@virginia.edu
Now that you have this down so well you might want to film it again. This time have the tenor/baritone singer move his mike down so we can see his face. With practice maybe you can do this up to tempo. It will be even more brilliant.
@friendofsquid I completely agree! The chords are spot on and the blend is fantastic. Even the balance is nice - which is rare for barbershop videos. The bass isn't too "in your face" and the tenor just floats above and the BARITONE - fantastic job Danny with staying out of the way. I know that trying to get this piece to speak is extremely difficult to do when timing is everything - but I think you could do it. Great job - thanks for sharing your gifts.
Honestly, an extremely wonderful arrangement of an extremely beautiful work by an extremely revered musician. Best of luck gentlemen, and may you keep creating outstanding works yourselves...
This is absolutely brilliant! Me and my friends put a kind of programme thing on Youtube every month - would you mind if we put your name and a link to this video so that our viewers can watch this?? :D It's called GNTV (Grant's News TV) - if you want to take a look! I really love this arrangement and you guys have really made a beautiful thing of it because your voices blend really well together! I love it!!!!! :D:D:D:D
This is truly awesome. Our whole ladies barbershop chorus think it is absolutely beautiful and now they all want to sing this arrangement. Where can we get it? The harmony is fantastic but could we compete with it? I'm now gonna listen to it another 8 times at least. Aah bliss! Please please please tell me where we can get it x
THIS IS AMAZING. I accidentally stumbled across this, and now I listen to it every night before I go to bed. It is very well done, I think it is perfect. Outstanding job guys :)
Nice blending and sensitivity. My only constructive comment is with the pregnant pauses in between every phrase or so. I'm not sure if that had to do with being unfamiliar with the multitrack form and leaving yourself enough room to breathe and whatnot, but it totally killed the musical line, and this piece really needs a continuous flow to it. Otherwise, it sounds great fellas.
I've tried this same thing. Same exact song. Same exact arrangement. Only I tried it by myself, and I have to say these guys are missing one key element I have in mine: the train wreck. Great job guys, hopefully I can get this down someday!
@tartanmusician Haha I was reading along slowly and saw "these guys are missing one key element" and I was already thinking.. oh great, some other random guy telling me how imperfect I am.. and I loled when I kept reading on. Thanks a lot, I appreciate it. Some people don't realize how much work it is to make something sound NICE until they try it themselves. There's a lot more work than just standing in front of a microphone and knowing how to sing.
@tartanmusician Hey man, if you ever want to collaborate let me know. I'm all over that element. Haha. In all serious, good luck to you, we can't all be Danny.
this is amazing! i was searching Lullabies to use in the classroom and I found this. They are going to love this. Soo beautfiul! You both are crazy talented!
this is absolutely beautiful words can not say how graceful this is. We did this song in my chorus concert and this is certainly much better! Good job.
Personally, I'd say this is too slow for the majority. You want to emphasise the ending with a slow section and can't do that effectively if the whole thing is slow. Also, this arrangement has some lovely features but in places there could be a bit more interest than the pedal tonic in the tenor part :P
Nice sounds otherwise, just let us hear more of you and a bit less reverb next time :)
What do I do? I am trying to find three representative Danny Fong songs to send to all my friends in the UK and every night I find another that's even better than the ones I've chosen. You are a star, in every sense of the word. :)
I have listened to Singers Unlimited for years, and now I have discovered you and your friends. Thanks to you Dan for making an old mans musical enjoyment last. You are all so super talented, and should be appreciated for the difficult art form that you do. Thanks again..
Wow, this is incredibly well done. You have a very high tenor there. I also sing acapella and tried it like this, and I know how hard it is. Your arrangement is also very original with the strait tenor. Very, very well done! Keep it up!
I need this sheet music. This is my favorite song, and favorite arrangement. It makes me cry and smile every time. I would love to do this for one of my groups!
Unless a singer, no matter how talented, has tried to do this, it's impossible even to imagine how very, very difficult is to accomplish. It takes more than a good vocal range and an excellent ear for harmony, especially when those harmonies are so close as they are here. This is just an incredibly beautiful piece of music. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
This song always makes me cry. If you've ever heard Out Of The Blue do this one, they're really good, too. Two thumbs up! (because I've listened twice)
When I heard the colaboration and all of it come together I started smiling and I got chills when I heard it. I love it when I hear the 4 parts together. I honestly cant think of the word right now, so I apoligise. But blooy great job. You guys did that song well. I cant help but smile everytime I hear a song/tag that has this involved. The parts all coming together and you can hear it
This is probably the most amazing piece you have been a part of Danny. I loooove your voice. It's amazing. And I'm officially going to listen to this more than the original.
@frankvdg hmm frank i think the tempo and the reverb are perfect. so often we lose the beauty of a cappella because it's recorded in a dry acoustic :)
i'm everything but a singer... just tried to sing for the last 20 yrs in a cappella choir, italian TTBB traditional song.
but very seldom a SONG like this can reach this level of SWEETNESS and the perfection you armonized this song makes frequency of voice vibrate the inner SOUL.
Danny just ooozes musicality in all his work. This sooo slow.....but I loved every second of it. I love everything I've ever seen/heard this kid do. A real credit to the musical world.
so, one of my best girlfriends and i have been singing a capella together for 8 years now, and someone suggested we try recording our parts on separate tracks, so we tried that last week. HOLY CRAP. IT'S SO UNGODLY HARD. it would set us back at least several weeks of hard rehearsal to try to record like that. i already thought your stuff rocked, and now i have 8x the respect for the multi-track work.
@awibs57 thanks a lot! It's nice getting some recognition from people who have tried it first hand, because it certainly is not easy. Good luck to you and your friend!
Now did you guys buy the sheet music for this or did you guys arrange this yourself? My friend and I listened to a VS recording and transcribe it but the baritone part was very difficult to pick out. So it didn't turn out was well as I wanted.
Danny, it's an absolute pleasure to listen to you sing . . . as an aspiring barbershopper, albeit a bass, I am thrilled to hear such talent and it makes me happy that I sing.
wow... ... ... after I stopped being simultaneously dumbstruck and euphoric, I spent twenty minutes scraping what remained of my melted ears off of the floor... It was like listening to liquid gold flowing from crystal fountains. (p.s. I enjoyed it in HD!)
Hats off to you guys. Iv seen quite a few of your videos. I really enjoy them. Thanks for taking time out of your day's to make these. I really enjoy them. Thanks to you I'm getting more involved with the barber quartet music. It really takes alot of talent. Keep up the great work. Take it easy! :~)>
right from the start i love this song, my choir is working on it right now. the way that you two sang it sounds waaay better btw. I love the sound and the blend. i can hear all four parts and i disagree with chancex1111, i dont think the tenor part is to overpowering at all. props to you guys for all the hard work you put into this piece, it really paid off.
Those chords (like 4:58 and 5:12) are tough enough to sing when you have four people doing it. To do it with just two is amazing. This is (well, this is going to sound stupid, but) this is altogether different from any of the other multitrack work you've done, a sort-of "blended" multitrack. Still, your intonation and timbre are insanely good. I think people think of autotune because your sound quality (without enhancement) is so pure. Keep doing these, they are really, really good.
Love it! Thanks for sharing your talent! Such long phrases. I'm impressed with how all the parts stayed together, especially starting phrases together.
This is so beautiful Danny....it makes me happy to hear this...and I totally agree, the new Max Q CD was disappointing...I don't understand why they used melodyne or autune....it's so obvious too...
i must say - i absolutely respect everything that danny does....as a music major myself...it's great to hear some fantastic musicians. no one should judge this in a critical way...it's difficult to do and you guys do a fantastic job. bravo. keep it up. and ps i'm glad you keep blending in mind...you do a great job with that and using a straight tone and not blasting vibrato lol. keep it up, i love it so much. it moves me...truly.
I am so enjoying this track tonight. Like Partyburner, I come back to it often. I love the room sound...so peaceful and large sounding. Terrific. Thanks again! Keep 'em coming.
chancex1111 you sound super jealous of people with this much talent. But if you think you can do any better please but your videos on here i would love to see them...... NOT!!!! and by the way is has to be one of the better sounding Barbershop quartets i have heard.
@chancex1111 Oh crap! I thought I was the best ever. Sorry, my bad. But you're probably right, the song is super easy to perform and all that stuff too.
1 am... Should be going to sleep... Can't stop listening to your awesome videos... Hoping my two brothers and father will ever be able (and willing) to pull off anything close to barbershop... You're an inspiration!!
BRO YOU MADE ME CRY AND I AM A 20 YEAR BRO. THIS IS THE BEST SONG IN THE WORLD AND OMG MAN I DONT THINK THESE CAPS CANT BE BIG ENOUGH TO CONVEY WHAT YOU, AND YOUR FREINDS SINGING THIS, HAVE MADE FEEL TODAY. YOU HAVE WON, NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO IN YOUR MUSICAL CAREER, THIS WILL ALWAYS BE MY FAVORITE DUDE I LOVE THIS.
Sincerely,
A kid that grew to this song being played everynight before wen bed as a young child.
ok now this was fantastic. bass/lead singer is really great and compliments you very well. i think this could be your way if you ask me (what obviously you didnt ;)) - to have a great guy singing the bass and you do kind of all the others.
@huginonairagain Thanks, he's my roommate and one of my closest friends too. We've been singing together since high school through several different kinds of music. We know how to blend together :)
i think the baritone at 4:57 is supposed to be at Eb
theres a huge awesome clash, supposed to be
E, Eb, Bb, Ab
I guess thats where the tuning issues come, err bass starts sharp, but kinda settles in, the baritone is almost a quarter step sharp, but stays there. It is pretty difficult lol
Hey you guys. This is SUCH a good video, I love it! Can't stop listening to it. lol. And don't beat your selves up about any pitch issues, I think it sounds great. Of course, I don't have as good of an ear, but I can only hear a couple of minor places, but it doesn't matter as it sounds soo beautiful! :)
Beautiful! Beautiful! Sheesh....this is a favorite of mine and your video is one of my favorite on youtube now! Well done. You are two very talented singers.
You say that your pitch suffered in places, but I don't think that it really matters. There are moments in this video that give me goosebumps. Beautiful chords and beautiful blend.
This was absolutely great! Beautiful! It moved me, I have always loved this song, and love listening to the numerous versions of it on YouTube, but yours was AWESOME! Thank you guys, I loved it!
Absolutely amazing. I think I like this better than the version that The King's Singers do. I mean, they have you guys on technical perfection, but that's a given. They're not trying to match separate tracks and, oh yeah, they're The King's Singers. But this arrangement, along with the rubato style, just bring out the emotion in every single word. I can't help but think of my wonderful girlfriend who is in Spain right now, and it nearly makes me break down hearing how you sing. Thank you.
this made me cry i couldnt hold myself together and i was even in a public place.....awkward. it was so beauitful and heart felt. i miss singing. this will definitely be on the list of shanna's favorites! truely moving. tempo and pauses were perfect lets you really soak it all in. i love the chord at 4:58-5:00ish. miss you boys :(
We are singin this song in choir and it's absolutely gorgeous. They did a wonderful job!

This is so beautiful Danny....it makes me happy to hear this...and I totally agree, the new Max Q CD was disappointing...I don't understand why they used melodyne or autune....it's so obvious too...

Danny has a great voice and does great multitracks, but what tops it for me as a SK boy is the Pil flag in the background!! Cheers to the green bunny

i must say - i absolutely respect everything that danny does....as a music major myself...it's great to hear some fantastic musicians. no one should judge this in a critical way...it's difficult to do and you guys do a fantastic job. bravo. keep it up. and ps i'm glad you keep blending in mind...you do a great job with that and using a straight tone and not blasting vibrato lol. keep it up, i love it so much. it moves me...truly.

ok now this was fantastic. bass/lead singer is really great and compliments you very well. i think this could be your way if you ask me (what obviously you didnt ;)) - to have a great guy singing the bass and you do kind of all the others.

@huginonairagain Thanks, he's my roommate and one of my closest friends too. We've been singing together since high school through several different kinds of music. We know how to blend together :)

This is a beautiful piece. If you ever have a daughter, like I have in my arms now, sing this song just as sweetly to her as you sing it to us now.

i think the baritone at 4:57 is supposed to be at Eb
theres a huge awesome clash, supposed to be
E, Eb, Bb, Ab
I guess thats where the tuning issues come, err bass starts sharp, but kinda settles in, the baritone is almost a quarter step sharp, but stays there. It is pretty difficult lol

Hey you guys. This is SUCH a good video, I love it! Can't stop listening to it. lol. And don't beat your selves up about any pitch issues, I think it sounds great. Of course, I don't have as good of an ear, but I can only hear a couple of minor places, but it doesn't matter as it sounds soo beautiful! :)

Thank you.
