Pro surfing is a joke. It's fickle. It's not representative of the best surfer in the water on the day more often than not. There's so many variables which see guys scraping into the top 40 beating the likes of Slater, Parko, Reynolds, Martinez, Burrows on a regular basis. The best surfing you'll see is these guys in freesurf on a day where tents aren't dominating the beach, groupies aren't round and theres no ball sac on a loud speaker talking you through a wave.

@jaysurfinbarbados Kelly consistently wins by putting good heats together. Guys hanging around at 32-40 on the rankings all their lives was a drag on the sport and a drag to watch the same guys lose all the time. If you can maintain a position above the new cutoff point you stay on the tour. If you don't you have to make way for new blood. If you are better than the new blood you will have no trouble requalifying by winning say a 6 star event. Also, no one surf merchant is the ASP.

Guys hanging around at 32-40 on the rankings all their lives was a drag on the sport and a drag to watch the same guys lose all the time. If you can maintain a position above the new cutoff point you stay on the tour. If you don't you have to make way for new blood. If you are better than the new blood you will have no trouble requalifying by winning say a 6 star event. Also, no one surf merchant is the ASP.
