@aaron32681 ECW started small and really did something different than what the WWF was doing at the time. They built themselves up with no help from the WWF until like 1998, when WWF started taking ideas from ECW. WWE will never have the crowds that ECW had.
They should of kept the two brands then battle at the pay per views. But I thought I heard somewhere that Shane said that that's what they wanted to do but they couldn't use the WCW name or something.
now replace wcw in mcmahon's speech to TNA. Also, replace the wcw star's names (booker t, goldberg) to tna's stars (hulk hogan, kurt angle ect.) and you will got the future if vince gonna make an invasion to tna
@bashbro1able Watching from Nitro was cool because it had a semi-PPV feel to it. Everyone's last match like Flair vs Sting. You watch it from Raw and it's just another Raw, but with a big twist.
i remember this i actually changed back and forth from wwf and wcw and it was raw on both then when shane came on it i was like wtf and laughed at vince lol
kudos to this guy for uploading every single chapter of this incredible saga in WWE. WWE went to hell pretty quickly after this story ended however :-(
@DowneyEIRE lol says who? daniels and styles are just cruiserweights just cuz TNA pushes them to the moon doesnt mean they're better than mysterio, bourne, kofi. and Joe is just some fat fuck shit, even brodus clay will "slaughter" him...Angle is pill-pooped and washed up, he should be thanking HHH he gave him a push in 2000, cry more
Its funny how at the start of this,Shane was a face, and Vince was the heel...yet not even 1/2 way thru the invasion, the roles were completely turned when Shane brought in the WCW wrestlers...
@LoneDragoon90 Yeah, the matches were ridiculous. Spike Dudley beating Lance Storm or William Regal beating Tazz. And the biggest fail was at Survivor Series when Team WWF replaced Team WCW/ECW and we had Team WWF vs Team WWF.
@LoneDragoon90 umm no the booking would've been better if stars like Sting, hogan, nash, hall, etc were involved but they rather sit n wait for their contract to expire then appear..that wasn't WWF's fault
@Evlkirk1312ismyBitch The WWF had pulled in more than enough to buy out the contracts. Considering that Flair showed up the night after the angle was over; Goldberg and Steiner arrived a couple of years afterwards. 2000-1 had been financially brilliant, they did themselves no favours whatsoever by not even considering buying them out.
If The angle wasn't to fall flat on its arse like it did, he would have put his hands in his pocket - even if it did upset the salary structure.
@LoneDragoon90 Steiner was injured during the inVasion angle, goldberg and the other top draws prefered not to work, Flair had signed but werent any plans for him, didnt u read my last comment?wasn't their fault they didnt wanna work
@Evlkirk1312ismyBitch Steiner being injured - fair enough; The WWF claimed they didn't have enough to bring Flair in for the Invasion. As for the others - I suppose sitting out a contract on guaranteed money rather than making a ton in the top fantasy angles symbolises either strong distrust of Vince or simply the work ethic (or lack thereof) of the talent. The footnote - The WWF blew this angle. It was always going to be McMahon vs McMahons anyway.
@LoneDragoon90 Flair woudint fit in the inVasion angle, maybe if Jarret, luger, hennig, sting, and other big stars were in it then probably, and no i highly doubt it would the "strong distrust of Vince" it was the work ethic, wasn't Vince's fault they didnt wanna work, so again... WWF didnt blew anything
I knew this angle was gonna be bad the exact second Shane appeared and said he bought WCW, and basically ignored it when they brought out Stephanie to run ECW. Every time the McMahon family was involved, an angle got ruined. I just wanted to tell Vince, "please, leave your damn wife and kids at home and keep them off TV!!"
they shouldve all been kept seperate , no one knew he was the owner till the whole hart/hbk angle anyway, shouldve kept ecw wwe and wcw as seperate entities w/an occasional invasion
this is classic vince, especially the "you're fired!" i'm surprised by the way he built it up, i was expecting wcw to stick around under shane. what happened to that idea? if i remember it right, it was several months of nothing before those wcw stars starting gradually appearing on wwf, and wcw was never brought up again except in terms of history.
It didnt matter who won, everyone agrees that the real winners were the wrestling fans. We had such a treat when the 2 biggest companies were trying to get each other out of business. There wont be anything like this anymore, TNA wont come close to the success WCW had. Its going to be very hard to take down WWE, especially since they are launching their very own Channel next year. WWE will end up the Monopoly of Sports Entertaintment
maybe in my opinion.. soon a later vince may name his company WCW..they might name it ...WCW Univerese..rumor as it he may remove the name WWE have WCW its a rumor i dunno if its true
with competition, there's better story lines, when it was competing it was one of the best. I have to agree, around '99, WCW storied to go downhill, mainly for Vince Russo's ideas, and their set became stall, and the guaranteed contracts and amounts they received, is what made them go out of their business too.
the invasion angle was a start for the brand extension of raw and smackdown.... all the mid carders were in the alliance and the top guys were in the wwf. the original plans were to make wcw a show for the other wrestlers who didnt get a chance on tv but plans didnt go through...
This is the moment that wrestling started to decline. The WCW ruled wrestling for as long as it was on. The group of Wrestlers in WCW were at that time the best of the best.
Smackdown should have turned into WCW Thunder and instead of this retarded ass Raw vs Smackdown bullshit, it should have been WWF vs WCW with Shane as the owner. Shane would have done something with that company, Vince decided to bury it and take out all competition and bury WCW talent.
ECW IS WHAT TURNED VINCES LIGHTSWITCH ON.HE NOW HAD HARDCORE GUYS TO MAKE HIS WRESTLERS LOOK LIKE THEY WERE THE BEST.WCW FAILED BECAUSE THEY WERE OVERPAID AND WERE LAZY.THEY NEVER CARED ABOUT THE FANS IN FACT SOMETIMES I FELT THEIR OWN WRESTLERS DESTROYED THEIR LOCKER ROOM AND MADE FUN OF THEMSELVES AND THE BUSINESS.ALL OF THEM WERE WASHED UP ONCE THEY GOT TO WCW FROM WWE AND THEY JUST MADE FUN OF WWF ON THEIR SHOW AND THATS WHAT STARTED THE WAR.LAWYER CALLED OUT ECW AND THAT GAVE WWF NEW LIFE
In my opinion, vince should have kept WCW as its own seperate show, with shane mcmahon as the supposed owner. Ya know, act like shane decided to keep WCW away from vince and keep it as a seperate company, and have it continue as a different brand all together. Kind of like how you have raw and smackdown, instead you would have raw on monday nights and wcw on thursday nights or something like that.
@metathus Yea I agree. WCW would've been awesome still because they were still doing just as great. It was just their retarded financial difficulties. But I guess.
@metathus Shane never actually owned WCW it was Kayfabe, however the WCW on thursday nights thing was the original idea for the brand extension, however it fell flat with many WWF fans, there were other ideas to keep WCW alive in some way but ultimately at the time WWF fans hated it, so it was killed off through the invasion storyline
@metathus The original plan was to have WCW Nitro, though not on Mondays, obviously. Viacom, who WWF had their exclusive TV deal with at the time, wouldn't let it happen, though, seeing the WCW name as damaged goods.
@metathus the plan was to keep WCW, but they couldn't get the tv time for another show at the time. that's what lead to the band extension a year later
You make it sound so easy. You dont think the wwe thought about doing it. TNN did not want to more pro wrestling on its channel. It takes a lot of money and look what happened when they tried to do it with ECW. It was just another WWE show. and sucked.
@metathus agreed it's always good to have competition...imo Vince should of given his WCW stock to Shane to at least carry on a McMahon Dynasty or something..
@metathus A separate WCW brand couldn't stand alone without the likes of Sting, Goldberg, Nash, Flair, Hogan, etc. All WWE's WCW really had was Booker, DDP, Bagwell (who didn't last too long), and a bunch of mid carders.
@Chizman69Denver right vince ego is indeed too big for that ........ if wcw is alive and controlled by shane mcmahon tna will be dead already when the time that its been established.
@metathus I believe i read somewhere that was vince's original plan, to keep wcw a separate deal. No network wanted to touch WCW since it was a failed business.
@metathus No still having Nitro and Raw on Mondays, and having Smackdown and Thunder on Thursdays. Because what you suggest is what Vince did to ECW and we know how it ended.
@Pogogichel Yeah, I guess he might have just tried to make a mockery of wcw like he did with a lot of the talent that come over after he bought it. DDP and the NWO come to mind as people that vince completely tried to destroy because he couldnt get over the fact that wcw kicked his as for 96 weeks in a row.
@metathus He blew millions of dollars with all this. Invasion garnered a 1.6 buyrate - roughly translating into $10m gross, and an $855k gate as well. Shows that if they bought the talent from TimeWarner, possibly had Bischoff fire the parting shot at the end of the dual-telecast (i.e. "Vince, we're coming, and we'll tear you apart from within") and have Heyman lead ECW they could have pitted all three together.
Fans would have gone nuts and could have left effects for years to come.
@LoneDragoon90 I agree. The invasion agle was terrible. Most if the big wcw stars were not even there, which really made it hard to get into it. I mean, sting, hogan, goldberg, hall, nash....none of them were in the invasion angle.
@Pogogichel The problem is the networks. They didn't want too much wrestling on. That was the reason Bischoff didn't personally buy WCW - or rather his deal fell through. No network would air extra wrestling at the time.
@metathus umm hey stupid they did do that.. but no one wanted WCW anymore, you fucking idiot..I'm sure you were the ones that were taking a piss break or changing the channel during the WCW match on raw...Don't bitch about it now
wcw may kicked wwf in the past but that was when wwf/e wasn't that big or anything good going on but when vince started the attitude era in what like 1997 all the way through wcw got there asses kicked and wwf still continued to whoop there ass when they invaded
fuck vince mcmahon he bought the wcw bought the nwo copyright,everything...what an asshole he was afraid of wcw cuz they kickes his ass,nd if nash hugan goldberg sting ddp were in the wcw invasion they would hv kickced everyones ass...
i dont think TNA could invade the way WCW did....
