Awesome Video Review and Comparison but please do a new review that's updated to at least 2012! There are heaps better out now, withntonnes more features, craploads more macros, some even have macros underneath the space bar ffs
@LucentAMVs mechanical keyboards use switches... 'normal's use stiff rubber domes that soften as they wear out and feel like you're pressing the buttons on a kids toy in comparison. you only need to push the key down half way while normal keyboards require a full clunky bottom-out, so you can type faster, and they feel and sound crisp and precise forever. while 'normal' keyboards go mushy and the keys you press the most simply stop working, forcing you to replace the whole keyboard.
where is part 2? i want a mechanical keyboard, im thinking about a ducky or filco or leopold or something (mx browns) but i dont know what to choose and where to buy it, i live in belgium and every site with descent price is in america and its like 50$ to ship ... thats 50% of the keyboard
Great review, unfortunately for me, I came here trying to decide between the Razer Black Widow Ultimate (Stealth Version) and the ThermalTake Meka G1 lol
I have the stealth ultimate also. I prefer the stealth ultimate over the original black widow ultimate. I like the matte finish over the shiny plastic look. I also prefer the brown keys over the blues for gaming. Thanks for the comment.
I really liked the DAS Keyboard but i cant find a way to buy it in any websites (ebay, amazon, newegg, getdigital, daskeyboard etc.) cause all the sellers does not ship to Turkey. i only find it on getdigital.de but the shipping costs 100€ !! In my country there is only TT Meka and Blackwidow which i ll have to choose for the next days. I think i ll go for the Blackwidow :(
Thanks for this video, it was very helpful in deciding which mechanical keyboard to get after being pissed off at my shitty cramped Logitech G110 H4rdc0r3 gam0r keyboard.
Wtf? all the steelseries 7g ive seen have shortened backspace and thats the one thing that stopped me from buying one, how come urs isnt? you modded it? please reply !
Thanks for the review. I really wish I had gone with the Das Professional rather than the Black Widow (vanilla). I don't need the macros, and I really like the laser etched keys on the Das much much more than I do the Black Widow's keys.
@MrXiaoschi :S? There are brown, blue red AND black. red has less actuation force than black, but otherwise, they're quite similar. Google mechanical keyboard guide (OCN guide) to see.
@tch204 thankfully i was wrong its working again but id still wouldnt go with i love it but its expensive andunless youre careful you can fuck it up, i wont lie though its sexy
What do you mean by gold-plated keys? If you're referring to the keyswitch contact point, ALL mechanical keyboards that use Cherry MX keyswitches have gold-plated contact point.
If you're referring to the connector hub, the gold plating does nothing at all in improving latency whatsoever.
I can't decide between either the Blackwidow ultimate or the Das. I find myself liking the cherry mx blue switches better than the others. The USB hub is nice to have, but which keyboard do you think is able to hold up better?
The Das appears to be better built and should last longer. If you like the Cherry blues then go for the Das Model S. I reviewed the Models S Professional silent and it was great. If you like blue switches then go for the Das Model S Professional and you will not be disappointed.
I think I might go for the das, the one with the lights sounds nice for its multimedia features, and the backlighting, but I don't know that I want noisy keys. I also would like to know when the key is registering by tactile touch, but not necessarily have to hear it click loudly.
If there is a keyboard that combines quiet keys that you can feel when they register the stroke, has an analog volume knob (rather than digital buttons) and keys made with good multi-color backlighting, I want it now!
@dimeuno - Oh, and I do want that anti-ghosting keys technology. There certainly are moments with certain games where I've held down more than 6 keys at once, and it really messed me up at crucial moments.
Nothing like me hitting a key limit as a crucial split-second of the game is transpiring.
I don't play any games close to as much as I used to, but when I did, the limit on a lot of keyboards was a big problem, and even worse if it was a keyboard limited to less than six simultaneous keys.
if you dont understand why people would insist on a mechanical then you should try one, it will take 20-30 minutes and you would love it. you would propably end up breaking your 10$ keyboard.
ive had Zboard, lycosa, Zboard merc stealth, Cyborg v7.
and they dont compare, i threw away the backlighting, macros, usb and audio for a cheap mechanical, and i dont regret it for a second.
@screwopenborders Well..that's great for you. But have you already tested a mechanical keyboard? They just feel so waesome when typing and gaming. I really recommend them for any use. They just feel "superior" somehow.
I normally don't take the time to comment videos but AWESOME JOB!!! I've seen tons of videos that tell me what is on the box etc. but i can figure that out for myself haha. Thanks for the info on diff types of switches and everything....just wish the thermaltake had macros/backlight for warcraft
Uhhhh.... you realize you're rocking like a mental patient denied his cigarettes at around 1.40 in the reflection of the keyboard. Great review, don't get me wrong, but like, I don't think you're allowed to babysit my kids..... (awww, now I turned a simple "everyone laugh at the imaginary retard" joke into some unwarranted pedophilia accusation. these bits just keep puting more and more innocents in jail, please someone stop meeeeee....
No evidence that gold plated keys last longer? How about chemistry, gold is one of the least reactive solid chemical elements. In other words it is more resistant than most elements, longer lasting. Also the Deck keyboards are a great bunch of backlit mechanical keyboards( although expensive). I am currently typing on it to write this(also have a daskeybaord). Next time no music or make it lower than this video please. Otherwise loved the video could really help curious buyers.
@Messier1011 You should also mention that some keyboards ( like the das ) can come with different switches. My das has cherry mx blues the ones in the black widow.
This Zowie celeritas keyboard does not work under linux - reported by several guys and experienced by me. Seems to be a driver issue with non standard behaviour of this keyboard. Till now I got no support from Zowie and I never experienced such a a problem with any other keyboard on the market.
@Maxaker67 It's too late. She got me a sidewinder x4 b/c it was on sale at newegg for $40 over the xmas break. Not mechanical but not a bad little keyboard. I miss the LCD and usb ports from my old g15 though. It was a gift so I can't complain. :)
Hi. Thanks to your informative review I'm purchasing my first mechanical gaming keyboard. A Thermaltake Tt esports Meka but not the G1. Not sure what the difference is but should be fine for me as I'm not a hardcore gamer just want a nice gaming keyboard. It is $80.00 after rebate at newegg.
@icucc86 The cheaper meka does not have the directional arrow keys and a few others are missing, it also does not have the usb and audio inputs on the keyboard and has a different cable. I have the G1 and my opinion is that it is worth the extra money. Hope this helps :)
@mrzzura123 Yes, the backlightning but also two USB ports and one mic in and sound out ports. But basically they are the exact same keyboard, I'd say go for the usual one if you gonna get one, 500 bucks more for backlightning and some port isnt worth it at all, doesnt make it a better keyboard from that.
I have a 6GV2 and It's great (cheaper version of 7G). If I didn't have this, I probably would have gotten a Meka G1 because it's actually a bit better than the Steelseries keyboards although both (technically 3 if you count the 6gv2 and 7g ) are great.
@seiya209 the g19 19 is of course a good keyboard, but you can´t compare a rubberdome(keyswitches in g19) with a mechanical keyboard. you have to try out a mechanical keyboard, it´s a great feeling to type on it
I use a dell mechanical keyboard for now... I know its a suboptimal keyboard, but its solid... ive pounded and mashed the keys for at least 6 years now with no failures...
Great reviews. I had the Black Ultimate and I don't like it for gaming. I LOVE it for typing, but gaming it just feels wrong. I might give the DAS a try. I don't care about macros or even back lit. I am interested in the new Vengeance series keyboard but I dont think I need the "g" keys
my blackwidow broke out of nowhere. went through all the customer service stuff with razer and they sent me a new one and THAT ONE BROKE TOO! honestly it was ridiculous. i always treated it nicely to. however, the mx blues allowed me to get 77 words per minute and that mightve messed it up. i want to try the unicomp customizer 104 now.
@MountainBoysTV blackwidow is known to have bad quality. I wanted to get one but after seeing many people have issues with it I ordered a the das keyboard instead.
now if only i could find some 7g wristrests for my 6gv2. i did not know that they where compatible. the 7g really has to get rid of that small backspace and small left shift...
Both the Das and Zowie feel very similar in terms of top surface area, yet, in my opinion, the Das feels more stable overall. Thanks for the question.
My favorite is Das Keyboard, the Razer is nice but i don't like te quality feedback. My opinion is that the new corsair K60 and K90 are going to rape all those keyboards. Also you didn't metion the Mionix Zibal

@0pp0se7 there is a version of vengeance keyboard that doesnt have any macro keys, its the K60 one and it has MX cherry Red switches which is great.

das silent feels so good to type on! i haven't tried any of the others, but i highly doubt it gets any better than this.

my blackwidow broke out of nowhere. went through all the customer service stuff with razer and they sent me a new one and THAT ONE BROKE TOO! honestly it was ridiculous. i always treated it nicely to. however, the mx blues allowed me to get 77 words per minute and that mightve messed it up. i want to try the unicomp customizer 104 now.

@MountainBoysTV blackwidow is known to have bad quality. I wanted to get one but after seeing many people have issues with it I ordered a the das keyboard instead.

Why would you get the silent Das Keyboard? The best part about the keyboard is the sound!

@SC2Spectre MX Brown switches have a great feeling. I like blue, but I make less mistake with brown and I prefer the feel also.

now if only i could find some 7g wristrests for my 6gv2. i did not know that they where compatible. the 7g really has to get rid of that small backspace and small left shift...

Maybe its not that good to type on cuz u got super fat fingers.

So essentially the Blackwidow Ultimate is the best one. That's what I got from this video.

So basically the Zowie is for hipsters? =P
TheExprima 5 months ago
@TheExprima ,
Zowie is a solid keybaord that many people love. I personally feel that there are other better offerings.
NATEROB009 5 months ago
Hey can u tell how the keycaps on das feels compared to the others? i heard zowie feels the best.
iluvyusike 5 months ago
@iluvyusike ,
Both the Das and Zowie feel very similar in terms of top surface area, yet, in my opinion, the Das feels more stable overall. Thanks for the question.

My favorite is Das Keyboard, the Razer is nice but i don't like te quality feedback. My opinion is that the new corsair K60 and K90 are going to rape all those keyboards. Also you didn't metion the Mionix Zibal
