ken iisaka will perform this live for the van cliburn amateur competition finals '11, along with alkan's festin d'esope! it'll be live and archived on livestream com slash vancliburnfoundation. i can't wait, we're in for a treat, as well as a huge audience! kapustin and alkan deserve more publicity, performances and recordings.
NK got alot of direct inspiration in this work from Chick Corea especially the Duet album with Gary Burton Harmonies lines riffs and all it still is my fave NK work
This is By far my Fave work by this Brilliant Extant composer.Just a note on his Chick Corea Influence within this work is HUGE The soaring fly away improv parts is total Chick Lines Harmonies & all(not the cloying old fashion cocktail jazz or blues sections),but the progressive stuff.Esp you can hear this on the album called Duet with Chick & Gary Burton on vibes.I'm sure that Cd was close at hand when NK wrote this
Sepharite or Liege55 any chance for send me this score and, if you have, other Kapustin pieces?? I just knew him few days ago and I'm somewhere between euphoria and depression :]
He's truly amazing and I can't find any material about him here in Brazil. Thanks and cheers!
"The booklet wrier of Marc-Andre Hamelin's CD seems o be convinced that I used the first few notes of the bassoon solo that appears at the beginning of Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" as a theme. This was a revelation to me. As far as I am concerned, both the "Rites of Spring" and this piece coincidentally happen to ue a phrase from the same Russian papyevka (the melodies of shich are often used in folk songs). "
Thanks for letting us hear him play this piece! My first introduction to this piece was an amature recording, which was pretty good. But to hear the composer himself play is a real treat!
Good job!

KAPUSTIN/Variations Op. 41 クラシックをしっかり勉強した人のタッチは一音一音力強いと、小曽根真氏も言ってた...。

My most favorite characteristic of Kapustin's performances is his clarity.

Forgive the omissions of some letters and addition of some. It was late at night when I wrote this.

That was lovely. Such great music he wrote. I hope he becomes the favorite composer for modern music.

I actually later found that exact wording in the liner notes of the Marc-Andre Hamelin recording.

ReturnOfTheStienway 2 years ago 2
That motif sounds like a snippet of the opening bassoon solo from Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring."
sanctusignis 2 years ago 3
Kapusttin himself "is very surprising that his motif is from Stravinsky."
He said it is mainly inspired by a Russian country tune.

I love this piece, one of the best by Kapustin !
Thank you !
