  • i know it was accidental and now I know why the following year Shultz laid a beating on Dale Rolfe.

  • @wickedbuzzproduction It was the same series. Schultz beat up Rolfe 3 games later.

  • Park and Rolfe showed a lot of class. I met Barry Ashbee because his son played on the same club I played for but he was a few years older. He was awesome.

  • Ashbee was a tough competitor, and from all reports, a great team man and family man. He is missed.

  • Brian McFarlane apperantly got a strip torn off him for going on the ice from NBC.

I say good for him. B-Mac was always a class act.

  • That ain't just any commentator going on the ice, it's Brian McFarlane, who was pretty famous in those days. BTW, the linesman he talks to is Matt Pavelich.

  • Are you kidding, Brian McFarlane getting on the ice to announce the injury with what looks like a tv antenna on his head...Pretty hilarious, (McFarlane not the Ashbee injury which ended his carear) but innovative for sports broadcasting in the 1970's. Could you imagine Pierre Maguire doing that on an NBC or TSN telecast today.

  • Why in the fuck was the commentator on the ice right in the middle of it?

  • LOL interviewing the ref. What is it, 60 minutes?

  • @bukakee1 LOL!

  • wow he was actually allowed to go on the ice and talk to the refs..how times have changed

  • I just said the same thing to my friend! Weird to see. @cowboyzsuk81

  • How goalies used to play without helmets is fucking unbeliavable

  • i love how bernie parent just skates over and the just walks away cuz he doesnt care

  • @itzReALiTyy

Thats B.S.,I'm sure Bernie Parent was very concerned that his teamate and friend was hurt. Also why in the hell would you "love it" if it did happen?

  • That was my great uncle to

  • Yep. I also saw that game. I was a huge Flyer fan. Truly a sickening feeling seeing Ashbee go down like that.

  • I saw this one live on TV and I remember having a sinking feeling. It was the end of a great career but even more sadly Barry Ashbee died three years later from leukemia. He is always remembered with fondness and respect by Flyers fans.

  • Barry Ashbee was my Great Uncle never met him, wish I had the chance too. He passed away from Leukemia a couple years after this. Even though this is a horrible event thank you for putting up the video.

  • Funny thing is that both Ashbee and Rolfe played on the same Jr A team (Barrie Flyers) in the late 50's. I played with Barry in Jr B and Jr A he was a damn good defenseman. Should have been in the NHL long before expansion!

  • @samuelkobe Barry Ashbee was also my great uncle! Who are you?

  • @HighFlyingJumper My name is Samuel Kobe. My grandpa is Don Ashbee Barry's brother. I live in BC canada where Don lives.

  • lost his eyesite.wear a fuckin' cage already!

  • Thankfully most players in the NHL do wear a sheild attached to their helmets. Mike Modano of the Stars began wearing one after he was hit near the eye with a puck.

  • what the fuck kind of stretcher was that?

  • its 1974 dipshit

  • i have to take up for courtyard regardless of the fact it was 1974 that stretcher was no good

  • I remember watching this live on TV. God I loved watching Rangers-Flyers games back then.

  • I saw this game when it happened and have always thought that the Flyers sent Dave Schultz after Dale Rolfe because of this, which was an accidental play. I remember them mentioning at the time that Ashbee & Rolfe were old friends and had been teammates in Jr. Hockey. Both this game and the one with the Schultz-Rolfe fight were on NBC sunday game of the week shows, so I guess they must have happened a week apart.

  • are you kidding me! What an idiot.

  • not the same game and a few years apart!!

  • both this game and the game with the famous schultz-rolfe fight were in the 1974 cup semi-final series, about a week apart. the year the flyers won their first cup. Look at both replays. Both were on NBC with Tim Ryan announcing. I would guess this was game 3 or 4 @ MSG. The famous fight was in game 7 @ the spectrum. And I'm convinced both are related, otherwise why would Schultz have made a bee-line right for a guy like Rolfe and punched him out when he wasn't expecting it. It was a payback/

  • I watched this live and haven't seen it since. Wow. I remember being shocked at the whole incident as you could imagine.

  • BEST FLYER TEAM PLAYER OF ALL TIME

  • that is absolutely classic...the guy right out on the ice telling what happened
