That is true. But this unit puts out only about 3mA of amperage, any higher than that is asking for trouble. an OBIT (oil burner ignition transformer) puts out maybe 50 mA of current and can kill you so there are certain safety rules here. otherwise it's a killing stick.

shake the racket around a little and let it hit a few large pops, those usually cause more damage to the bug. and hold that button until there is nothing left but a black dusty fried bug. and get a zapper with more power. I recommend 2300 volts or more.

I agree with @ChemicalToxication, just Overkill. Not to mention the Stench that comes off of these Bugs! Just Zap It & forget it. Most Bugs are done with One Zap. Sometimes BiggerBugs take Two or Three. Their stunned after the First Zap. Think Star Trek when they get hit with a good Photon Torpedo. A Phaser Blast or Two will finish them. I Demonstrate & Test mine with a cup of water. Dip Your Fingers in & just flick it onto the Screen. Impressive, especially to somone who's never seen it before!

What I find is that when you smoke them like this and theres a lot of smoke and only a light breeze it draws flies and if your timing is right you can zap the flies that land on it. (evil laugh) but you have to press the button when the fly is touching BOTH grids. if your using a zapper with the metal rods across it then just press the button. you may or may not get the fly.
