Actually his recorded last words by Scott who stayed with him as he died were 'God and my country' but yes 'Kiss me Hardy' and him saying a few other words after that were also some of the last things he said before he died.
The "battle" of Copenhagen? That's the overstatement of the century. It was more like the Britains shot randomly at the civilians of Copenhagen/bombed the city, then stole the Danish navy and ran for the hills ... Twice!
@tyrannasaurasalan Yeah I know, that's also why I don't feel sorry for the Brits, about the Vikings pillaging and killing their towns. The Danes were a neutral faction until the Brits forced them to ally with Napoleon
@FlyingHawkFilms I am, myself, from Norway and have Danish relatives, and the Danish in fact, were in a very warlike stance at that time, their neutrality was based entirely upon determining the strongest team to join. Their conquest of Norway and attempted expansion into Sweden proves this. Before Britain beat them at Copenhagen, they showed open diplomatic hostility towards Britain, which catalyzed the battle, however after that they never engaged in open conflict.
People who made this are totally disrespectful if they come from Britain, seeing as if this guy did not go against orders and defeat the french/spanish fleet Britain would be speaking French and the French empire would still be around today controlling all of europe, maybe even most of the world.
@danuk500 Yes, we know Nelson was a hero, everybody does! In what way is ths possibly disrespectful? It's called having a sense of humour. British people are very proud of that too, as I'm sure was Nelson.
@danuk500 "Teenage females"?! Why do you single out the females? Teen girls know just as much about history as boys do, if not more. Girls do better than boys on average at school than boys, and judging by that stats on all my HH videos, it's mostly teen girls watching them.
@nicnoc1976 Hahaha no pretty much all girls that went to my school had no idea about history I wouldn't make a statement if I didn't think it was true most girls in my year had no interest in history at all and were more worried about doing their make-up i'm sorry to say mate but times are changing the newer generations of females really don't give a shit I should know because I just finished secondary school (take note: the school has higher grades that the national average)
@danuk500 I'm not about to judge half of all British teens on your anecdotal evidence. From my experience more girls are interested in history than boys, but I'm not going to judge them all on that either. Yes, I am female and personally I've been obsessed with history since I was a kid.
@danuk500 Are most boys interested in military warfare? I really don't think so! Besides, military history is only one part of history, there's much more interesting stuff than that IMHO.
@nicnoc1976 So you have a go at me for stating something but then state that most boys do not like military history...okay then...? I'm not even gonna bother anymore...just wow...
@danuk500 I stated nothing of the sort. I asked you if you thought most boys were onto military history. I don't believe they are, but that's my opinion. My point was that as far as we know teen boys and girls have an equal interest. Unless we're gonna do some kind of scientific study then we'll never know.
@danuk500 stop being a sexist idiot - even you should be able to tell that judging a group of society based on one singular experience of them is ridiculous.
@teathermouth Oh please stop with the pathetic comment it's not being sexist 'idiot' it's what I found at my school so if you have nothing smart to say silence.
@danuk500 because your experience is obviously the only one which matters. I used the term 'idiot' because this video is from a kids show, and the insult I wanted to go with was innapropriate.
@nicnoc1976 I'm betting also you're female as to why you are so offended by this well i'm sorry but from what I found at my school which is a very good school MOST of the girls don't know history and really dislike it. One of the reasons for this is because most of the stuff we learn is about the slave trade...and a very small amount about England itself me and others at my school however actually look up stuff on history romans, greeks, persians, mongols, british empire and battles
@danuk500 Oh one more thing even my girlfriend that got all As - A*s (better than me) also knows that most teenage girls lack history and she accepts that she knows very little as well about history in general! If you really think you're right then go into a secondary school and ask all students in a classroom (or a couple) varied questions about history then compare boys to girls. I do accept that on average girls do better than boys overall but history is not their strong point.
@teathermouth *sigh* You keep failing to understand that I used 'most' not 'all' and 'not a great deal of history' not 'no idea of history at all'. *facepalm* Quit twisting my words. "which is a generalisation, and therefore discriminative." - Biggest load of shit i've heard so far.
A lot of people don't realise how bad Nelsons injuries were even though the sketch shows them. through his shoulder punctured his lung then in his stomach, his last words weren't "Kiss Me" as in give me a kiss it actually meant that he was meant to die in battle. If you go to Southend you pay around £20 to visit the historic dockyard where the HMS Victory is docked & you can actually have a tour of it, there's a plaque for the spot where he was shot then a memorial where he died 3 hours later
Nelson's actual last words were "Drink, drink, fan, fan, rub, rub." He was delirious but alive for quite a while after Hardy kissed him, and people were giving him sips of water, fanning him, and massaging his shoulder.
@Animalfriend777 I suppose we'll never know. People weren't exactly out and proud in those days. He was married, but that doesn't mean he wasn't gay of course. It's even disputed that this is what he actually said, and even if he did, it doesn't make him gay obviously.
@nicnoc1976 I'm sick of historical revisionism. According to some people, everyone in history was gay.
Let us remind ourselves that kisses do not necessarily mean love in the sexual sense. Historically, and in many parts of the world today, a kiss on the cheek signified/signifies affection, not necessarily amorous passions.
Nelson was revered by his men. A kiss would have been a normal way to bid a hero farewell.
