Very well done, in depth video. I agree with you about GSP vs Penn 2. Let that fight cook a while longer. If GSP beats Fitch, the BJ re-match doesn't need to happen right now.
I think my overall impressions were based on the fact that Gomi gets finished in his losses whereas Diaz usually screws around until he loses a decision. Also, I love how the Diaz boys celebrate before the fight is even officially over lol. Nate>Neer 9/17!
PS- I completely agree about the Diaz/Gomi NC being BS. Exactly how does being a pothead give you an advantage in a fight?
I love Diaz's style which I think makes me a little biased towards him. After seeing him lose to Parisyan who has proven to be a gatekeeper (even tho he's a staple in the top 10), perhaps he should be ranked a little lower than I'd like. I also think he knows his fight style is entertaining which ends up biting him in the ass because he seems to want more cheers/fans than a W.
Thanks for giving so much attention to my post. I actually forgot that I have in fact seen the Pellegrino fight that Diaz submitted him in, I just didn't remember who exactly was on the receiving end. I'm admittedly not very good at remembing fight details over time. So.. I tend to think of fighters based on my overall impression of them =/. Come to think of it, I guess you're right about the caliber of opponents when comparing Diaz's and Gomi's wins/losses.
nice predictions bro.i hope kenflo beats roger huerta.i would like to see clay guida vs kenflo someday.i think if roger huerta is going to another organization i think it will be DREAM.
Eddie Alvarez or gomi vs huerta i like to see also.the fight between gsp fitch.fitch has a chance to beat gsp.but it is too close to call imo.
Also, I agree that Brock Lesnar's biggest threat are the big BJJ guys in the division who will easily outclass his mere 3 years of jits training. I was surprised to not hear you mention Gabriel Gonzaga who seemed like the most obvious choice to me, however. I can't wait to see Lesnar F-5 Herring over the cage =x.
Yeah, lately I've managed to forget about Gabe for whatever reason. He def has good BJJ and is also big. But the thing about dude... he caves... and fast. If the pressure is on, and you hit him with a nice punch, or bruise him up, he seems to lose all fight and has shown lack of heart. Especially in the Werdum fight.
If he could just show a fighting spirit that doesn't give up as soon as trouble comes his way, it would be impossible to forget Gonzaga. But as of now, out of sight out of mind.
So how do you figure Gomi is so much of a higher tier fighter than Diaz after getting dominated so badly by him in their fight against one another? Diaz has only really lost to fairly difficult fighters in his recent history. I was unaware of Diaz's fight with Pellegrino and I couldn't find it after researching Diaz's record. I've seen the Parisyan fight though.. perhaps thats what you meant? That was great as is many of Diaz's fights in my opinion
Nate Diaz fought Kurt Pellegrino April 4th, 2008 at Ultimate Fight Night 13 and got his ass whooped all the way up until mid round 2 when he caught Kurt in a TIGHT triangle. He went on to throw up double middle fingers while on his back, and then Kurt tapped. lol. Diaz didn't even pull down the head. It was sick. Find the fight, and watch it.
When comparing fighters, you have to look at the complete body of work. Even if they fought each other.
Gomi is 28-3 with HUGE wins over Ludwig,
Ishida, Aurelio, Sakurai, Azeredo 2x, Kawajiri and Pulver. His only losses are to Penn, Hansen, and Auelio. (the loss to Diaz was erased. Which is BS!)
Diaz is 17-7 with semi big wins over Lytle, Fickett, Neer, Tibau, and a big win against Lawler. He lost to Sherk, Riggs, Sanchez, Noons, Parisyan, Hironaka, and Jeremy Jackson.
Gomi was the Shooto champ (defended 4 times), the Pride FC champ.
He beat the following champs.
Pulver was a UFC champ, Sakurai was the Pride LW champ before Gomi beat him. Kawajiri was a shooto champion. Ishida was a shooto champ. Ludwig is a multiple time Muay Thai champion. He has the fastest KO in pride history over Ralph Gracie.
I am a huge fan of the Diaz brothers but Nicks win shouldn't mean more then does.
Gomi has never looked so bad, slow, and out of shape as he did against Diaz. He gassed in the first round. He was the huge favorite, and Diaz was there as a "lamb to slaughter." It is clear he didn't train properly and took Diaz lightly and paid for it.
Same happened with Shogun vs. Griffin, Cro Cop in every UFC fight he had as well as many others who incorrectly believed would walk through the UFC fighters.
Basically, Diaz is good, but is ot on Gomi's level. Even with a win over him.
I was a huge fan of Jeremy's predictions and I also like your predictions a whole lot (you're the best prediction guy on YouTube and possibly anywhere else) but I don't think you should start at the top of the card and work your way down to the bottom. It reminds me way too much of the Phat UFC Critic and I can't stand his predictions.
The Huerta quote about the Florian fight being a cakewalk was taken out of context and he's angry about it. He originally said "Comapred to the adversity I've faced in my life, this fight is a cakewalk"
Yeah, I saw that. And Huerta was pissed the UFC edited the footage that way.
He's also pissed at the UFC in general lately, but that's for a future topic.
fyi. This dude got $50 a day for promoting the UFC in 3 different countries. That's messed. 50 a DAY? that is CRAZY low! That's about6 dollars a day if it were an 8 hour work period.
Another great video man, and I agree with almost everything you said, excpet the lesnar and heath fight. I think you're underestimating Heath. I originally felt he would win, but now I am going with Lesnar, but I don't think it will be a blow out. Heath is quite a good striker, and although he doesn't have the submission skills of mir, I wouldn't call it laughable. Also, we have yet to find out what Lesnar's stamina and chin is like. I'm going with Lesnar, but I'm not counting Heath out.
Also, I look at Florians fight with Diego and I ask myself.. Can Huerta do the same? I mean his agressivness, style, and body type is similar to that of Sanchez. But I also ask myself? Has Kenny improved that dramatically since that loss? I think so but that fight lurks in the back of my mind.
Dude, I love your analaysis. But I wonder, If Herring works on his sprawl and takedown defense and manages to keep this fight with brock standing for even just a little bit, Don't you think those hands of Herring can hurt Brock? To say that Herring is not a good striker is not a true statement. If he connects with Lesnars jaw this fights could end, simple as that. It will be interesting to see how Brock handles being clipped in the mouth. NONE OF US CAN SAY YET BECAUSE BROCK HASNT BEEN HIT YET
you are totally right about Kenny. My bets are in at -150 and that is a BARGAIN! In my view there are a few LOCKS on this card: GSP, Kenny, and Manvel the anvil. After re-watching Herring struggle to stay on his feet against KONGO of all people, I add Lesnar to that list. you are right with the 60 second thing. it could get UGLY
Huerta's grappling is very overrated. Guida threw him around like a ragdoll. While Kenny's straight up TD defense is not the best, his positional grappling is excellent and he always ends up in a good position. The only time I remember him being on his back for an extended period is against sherk, and even then he had sherk busted open. I would consider Joe lauzon at least as good and as strong a wrestler as Huerta, and Kenny rookied him. Kenny takes this, trust me.
I dunno. I think he can't beat Penn, Aoki, Kawajiri or Alvarez. He'd MAYBE beat Gomi, but you know what I'm sayin? His take down game IS his game, and those guys could beat him at it, or avoid it like Penn did. He really has little GNP or Subs. It's almost lay n' pray.
But yeah, Sherk is above Stephenson and GRiffin etc... , but below Penn and AOki. Kinda a 1.5 tier. I say he beats all but 5 lw's in the world. So, I guess that makes him top tier.
Would love to see a dedicated clip on this but I wonder if there will be any of the top BJJ fighters coming to the big MMA events. Marcelo Garcia joined American Top Team not too long ago, Drysdale is at Xtreme Couture and Roger Gracie had a win against Yuki Kondo this year. Pretty sure they'd rip through UFC but not affliction fighters due to greater stand up fighters.
I know Affliction and Dream have approached Xande Ribeiro.. the Number 1 BJJ guy in the world right now.
Would be nice to see him at Sengoku. He was also offered a spot there.
Can't just take any fight thouhgh, for your first MMA bout. Matt Lindland is not the guy to compete against, when you are 0-0 in MMA, no matter how good you are at BJJ.
lol
As for dedicated clip.. a good idea. I'll see what info I can compile for a worthwile vid.
hey, thanks for the response. We know he can't beat Penn, but it would be crazy to me to say that he didn't have at least a 50/50 shot against any of the other guys you mentioned. but even if they could all tool him, he would still be top, what, 6? in the WORLD? I would say top ten in the world in any weight class is top tier.
GSP has not defended his title. but to say he hasent cleaned out his division? Look at the ammount of Top 10 fighters GSP beat vs the TOP's Silva has beaten. Hughes, KOS, Trigg (was #2 WW at the time), Penn best P4P at the time and the list goes on. GSP although hasent defended his title he has done as much or more in his division than Silva has.
Also, in defense of Roger Huerta's sanity, he recently said this:
"They put these videos on the UFC where I said the fight was going to be a "cakewalk". They f#@%ing pissed me off because what I was saying is that, COMPARED TO MY LIFE, this fight is a cakewalk. It was in no way a disrespect to Kenny, it's just with all the s@#t I've been through as a kid, fighting Kenny is a cakewalk."
I'm impressed with your videos; you definitely know your stuff.

penns still gotta beat florian/huerta, and i say edgar, aswell as sherk again
st.pierres gotta beat fitch, alves, sanchez,
clean out the divisions like you said
but i dont think anderson silva has even done that yet. Silva still has rising guys in cote nad bisping to deal with,
i think silva needs to fight henderson again also, henderson was really off that night, didnt even defend himself when silva had his back.
if he does all that then he owns MW

second tier should looks something like this. kenny, Edgar, tyson griffin, joe stevenson, hansen, huerta, tatsuya kawargi, ishida, melendez
third tier should be something like nate diaz, clay guida, lauzon, gray maynard, franca ect.
other than that good video and keep them coming. good video
