  • To all the people who watch the video and cannot comprehend what I am saying, I can't help that. My message is clear. It is understood that sm sells just a connection between the contractor and a potential client and nothing else. That is what they offer. It is up to the contractor to make the sale and work out a deal with the client. If anyone feels that they need to educate me on that subject then it is clear that you did not listen to what I stated, hence your opinion is invalid.

  • . if you know anything about marketing sm doesn't promise any jobs they put your company in contact with potential oppurtunities and spend more money in a year marketing for there companys then these guys can ever make in there life, just goes to show how dumb you people believing this shit are...if its on the internet it must be true haha

  • Got it cbaird32?

  • Got it?

  • Anyone who takes advice from an obvious dumb shit coke head like this shouldn't be running there own business, anyway this guy is obviously a loser if he ever showed up to my home i would never think about letting him do any work for me. Just goes to show no matter how much sm looks up guys backgrounds and licenses there are still idiots like this out there

  • Thank you for the marketing lesson of service magic 101. Since you listened to the video in it's entirety and understood that I didn't understand the terms of service or anything for that matter that I spoke of or posted, I will take you lesson to heart. I don't know maybe all the coke that you spoke of has gone to my head. Thank you. As far as showing up to do work on your home, I'd probably be dealing with your mom and dad. haha I guess what you say must be true, haha

  • Supid name for a company and the name lives up to it's reputation.. SHIT.

  • Bogus Leads.. this company is Bogus. DO NOT USE IT.

  • thank you for this video i am hispanic i have my own business i get the call to from ms i not stupid thats y i check on line for inf thank you for this video

  • They are selling a digital internet connection. The internet is filled with fraud. How many people lie about their age and post very old pictures on the online dating sites. Look at all crooks posting on Craigslist The old saying that "talk is cheap" is taken to a whole new level online. Look at all the spam. sm sells a lick & a promise. Leads that may or may not be real & by the time you find out, they have yanked more money out of your bank account. That is the magic!

  • It's not good for contractors. If I'm window shopping & go through sm to get a quote,sm gets paid. (They are up front about it) you have to sell yourself like door to door. They take your $ right out of your bank account. sm gets paid big bucks per click & you do the work. sm was nonexistent 10years ago so who needs'em now? Start your own website through GoDaddy & promote it.There is No quick, easy way to get work, that's work in itself. sm sells yet another quick fix, like a pill to lose fat.

  • WOW I BELEIVE YOU {{Thanks for saving me money,}} is there any good company's like Service Magic out there?

Service Magic charges $50.00 for leads? I was thinking of using them, but if they charge before you get the job. And if they don’t charge according to the cost to do the work and finish, I don’t think ill use them. See the way I look at it, they could have you bidding against tons of other people. And you lose before you make anything. Sound Fcked to me!

  • i joined sm , then i googled them, wow!!!!!!!! the complaints were endless , then they called me , i told the guy (not gentelman) im not intrested and to please remove me off your email list and he hung up on me, i will post this on every site that i can and spreed the bad word on sm

  • This past year I've been researching SM, and other similar companies to improve the lead generation process. Last week I published three local directories of roofers in Atlanta (Atlanta Roof Contractor dotcom) , that has a low monthly fee for service. In fact, our cost per month (on three sites) is less than the cost of one lead from SM. In the coming months we will roll out directories on the same model for remodelers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, movers, and more. Then nationwide!

  • Thank you for the good information. I.m a licensed contractir at a absolute standstill and was going to give Service Magic a try. I was NOT concerned about them checking my background cause my work will speak for itself and I will absorb any problems that a contractor may run into on ocassions. My concern is that Service Magic will not provide me legitimate leads that they promise and I think you have convinced me that I will be chasing my tail waiting for leads that will never transpire.

  • Service magic lies. They do not do proper background checks on people. This company steals from contractors who are hungry for work. They sell them on the principle that they can generate leads even if nobody lives in that zip code. They are liars and they need to be called out and exposed. Do Not Use Them. Call your chamber of commerce if you want honesty.

  • Ask your neighbors and friends for recommendations,

ServiceMagic is a pay web site, they will recommend you anyone who pay for their services. Smart contractors wouldn't use ServiceMagic.

You want a Smart contractor doing your projects.

  • As a landscape designer I have to tell you that I mostly received leads for telephones that never answered. I was a member of SM for over ten years (it was good to begin with) and I only got four jobs from them. I discovered one crack pot reference, ten years old (I never did look at the web page much) I explained the situation, wrote a rebuttal but SM wouldn't remove it. Wouldn't even change it's position from top of the pile so that no-one saw the good ones. I got out fast, don't use SM.

  • When someone receives a "bogus" lead today, they are either credited to their account or provided with an additional lead. Not every lead is $50 btw haha. They range from $7-$90 dependent upon the task and if its a market match/exact match lead.

GREGVANCOM: ServiceMagic is no where close to going out of business. They grew 14% during last years recession and plan to grow an additional 20% by the end of 2010. I was one of 170people who were recently hired :) People, do some legitimate research!

  • Answer me this, How can the construction industry be at an all time low, (as it's all over the news,) if your company is connecting contractors with homeowners all over the USA? My, all the tradesmen out their should be rolling in dough since you have the answer. sm is leading the way to the biggest economic recovery since the great depression! No doubt that sm is growing, hope sells very well when people are hurting..................

  • that are viwing this video, know that you have to sell yourself!!! You wont get every lead generated if you don't go after them right after they're sent to your phone. rwfatz, im not sure what you really experienced, but if the sales consultant you talked to really did fudge answers pertaining to your liscence/insurance/SOS i hope they got terminated immediately. If you got leads for consumers needing work outside your primary work category, that is SM's fault as well. They set the "tasks" wrong

  • The truth is that you sell nothing but a smoke screen. You guarantee homeowners nothing because you sell them nothing. Contractors good and bad pay you because they need work, and in these very slow times you feed off of them like scavengers. If you are smart enough to comprehend the content of this video, you will realize that not once did I complain about work that I received or not. The selling of the job is on the contractor. I complain about a bait and switch that you execute.

  • than a bag of hammers, but being a Sales Consultant for SM i can assure you that none of the contractors have had any liens, judgements, or bankruptcies within the past 3yrs or a felony within the past 25yrs. Our background checks are extensive and we often deny SP's from entering our network. Every SP has to be liscenced and 30% of the primary work categories have to carry insurance. I love going to work everyday knowing that I'm making a difference in many SP's lives. For any contractor/SP...

  • You only vet the owner of the company. You forget about the subs and the employees. The unlicensed electrician who was sued for negligence. The lead carpenter who lost his license because of a DUI. The plumber who is in jail out on work release. The laborer who is a convicted pediphile. The owners brother who is a partner that collected down money last year from 3 homeowners then disappeared. The maid with sticky fingers. Who vetted you mr. Smiley?

  • Hey rwfatz, wow you must have been pretty displeased with the service to post a youtube video about your "so-called experiences" haha. In 2005, IAC bought over ServiceMagic and changed things so that leads would be sent to a maximum of 4 service professionals (3 in most cases), so thats interesting that you stated your experience in 2008 consisted of leads being sent to a maximum number of contractors ;) As far as being reputable, yes...some of the contractors we deal with are dumber...

  • I was displeased with your so called "service" because of my "so called experiences". I would expect nothing less from a salemen from sm. Come on nail it down. Whats the #? 3, 4, What is it? By your own admission, you don't know, so you are misleading your clients. The # is as many as you can get away with because their is no oversite. Only an arrogant self righteous company like sm would call the breads and butter of there existence "Dummer then a bag of hammers" Keep talking. Here's a shovel.

  • I don't think they will be in business If contractors wise up.

  • PS, most local companies I work with that have reputation usually have their own sales force and their money is made off a a job they produce not a lead. If somebody is calling you for an estimate you are already at work loosing money. A proper lead is a job not a phone call.

  • Thanks for saving mr from wasting my time.

  • rwfatz, check out ContractorSolutionNetwork . com. "We bring Pros & Homeowners together." It is a free community matching service for Pros & Homeowners. Your money stays in your pocket.

  • I dont know all the much about service magic. But I would just like to comment that when I put my zip code in to see how many people were using service magic in my area, the exact same number shown in VA was the same as NY. Makes me think that inflated their number.....to gain more business.

  • Comment removed

  • The only reason servicemagic is still in business is because of the infinate amount of contractors looking for work. They are Scam Artists and they get away with it because the internet is not policed. They operate in the shadows between right and wrong and hey, who can prove anything when you deal with a company that sells nothing. They prey on people. Everytime a homeowner hits send to sm, large amounts of money are swiped out of bank accounts. And Big Oil is corrupt? SM produces NOTHING!

  • You are absolutely incorrect on all your points. We only screen the business owner, because it is your responsibility to screen your employees not theirs. Also they only send the info to 3 or 4 contractors depending on job size. If you were unsuccessful with the system then it is called a failed investment. I do not know of any ADVERTISER that can make any guarntees. Good luck with your business inthe future.

  • I am guessing that you are a representative of sm. I can't belive that you are pettifogging my statements. No advertising is guaranteed! Sm lied to me about the product they sold me. You say 3 or 4? Which is it? They gave to many more. They gave me leads, that was good. Its up to me then. When you send me leads for work that I'm not contracted with you to do & you take money from me. Now you are stealing! Can I sell you a new roof and install tarps as the finished product? That's what you do!

  • if what you are saying is true you would display your name and company name show that you are a good company like you say you are i think you did not pass the backroud checck so you are mad. good job

  • Anyone who watches this video and comprehends it's content, would agree that your post is not worth commenting on. Your spelling and grammar might be another thing. Let me know if you need some work done, I'll shoot you my name and number!

  • Great video and I commend you for posting it. SM needs to disappear, they are a complete rip off, getting by with it under the table.

  • Thanks for all your opinions.

Perhaps you want to add reliable remodeling to your list of mediocre and not worth it .

To all of those home owner and contractor do your research before get into it.

    Service Magic = mierda

    Reliable remodeling=mierda

  • Well said, Fatz. I'm a GC and i was with Service Magic for, oh, 36 hours before i had to cancel my credit card to stop them from dinging it. Even though i cancelled my SM account, they still sent me leads

and sent me to collections when i refused

    to pay.

    Never again.

  • why would you cancel your account after 36 hours if you are a good contractor it seems to me you can not make up your mind and i would never hire you.

  • About your comment to David85251. Maybe you should hire him. It seams to me that he did make up his mind. He saw a problem and he corrected it. He then admitted it. That shows character! Think about it??????????

  • DO NOT USE SM

  • thanks man.

  • Here is more about what I'm talking about,

Search Youtube for "Homeowner Picks Shoddy Contractor From Web Site". How did this happen? I thought servicemagic checked these guys out? They are lying to the public. Homowner Beware, Contractor Beware!

  • if service magic sent this job out to 5 or 6 contractors like you say and you pick a contractor that did a half ass job is that service magics fault or yours

  • It is the homeowners fault, and that is the problem. sm dupes the homeowner into believing that all of these contractors are certified, competent, skilled and ethical. They sell a service based on weeding out the good from the bad, and they do no such thing. They sell snake oil. People will have a much better rate of success just by going to there local chamber of commerce, or the Yellow pages and checking credentials themselves. That is why the title of this videao is, Homeowners Beware.

  • @ttbabys1 if you get a contractor that does a bad job, it is the fault of service magic as well. All the contractors are supposed to be screened and if they do a bad job, SM sent them to you and they are liable.

  • their leads range form $7 to $55 depending on the projet type. They dont send info out to more than 4 contractors. Unless the consumer requests additional estimates or different projects. As for the backround check stuff I can't comment but you really should know everything before you start shouting allegations.

  • Well Sir, I was with them for quite a while. I had 5 different people that I trust,

test the service out as a homeowner looking to hire a contractor. Three of them had 8 differen't contractors respond, One had 5 respond, and one had what the were told...3. Is it like this in all cases, I don't know. SM promises contractors only 3. You say 4. Maybe you should do your homework, before you comment. Do the math. Who's conning who? It's a bait and switch & I will post what is true. Wise Up

  • By the way, those 5 people I spoke of needed work performed and hired 1 contractor each as not to abuse the system. servicemagic took money out of 17 bank accounts that they were not contracted to do. They should have only been paid for 15, but they were paid for 32. I'm sorry for the 17 contractors who were ripped off. Was Enron a trustworthy company? BE INFORMED

  • I did the same thing. When I called to complain, S&M said my customers must be lying about all the calls. LOL!

  • Theripoffreport. com is a web site contractors should check out before signing on with this company.

  • To CBowesRacing, I'm not trying to pick a fight with you but, If you have a machine shop build you an engine for your race car and the salesman sells you a completely blue printed worked to the balls engine, and after they deliver that engine you find out on the track that its a good looking stock one, YOUR GONNA BE PISSED! That's what servicemagic does. Using your logic, you still have a running engine, you can still race! It's not so bad. Just be happy that your alive!

  • To CBowesRacing. Listen to what he's talking about. Open your ears. Your response sounds like you were watching tv and youtube at the same time! Any normal busines knows that you don't get every job you bid on. He's not complaining about that. He's bitching about a classic bait and switch operation and a company not providing contractors the service that they promiced.

  • Just to add to my comment. Any advertising you invest in, you wont win every job from it. Its impossible to. If you spent 500 dollars in advertising and got 2 jobs that turned into decent size jobs, is it worth it?

  • Use your head thats not what I'm talking about.

  • Once again, open your ears. Both of your comments sound like you were watching someone elses video.

  • dont use sm

  • I think you are just going off of what information the Sales rep was trying to gather from you. There is an actual backgrounds department in ServiceMagic that runs all the checks on your criminal history, leans, insurance and license. SM is getting your name out and giving you the opportunity to try and bid the project. If you look at each lead for what it is, you will be upset. If you look at how much you spent overall and how much you made from that, it doesnt look so bad.

  • I've used a few contractors from service magic before and have had positive experiences. The only time I get annoyed is when contractors get annoyed that I don't hire them (at $50 a lead, I don't blame them). I do like having many people compete for the job.. gets me the most competitive rate. I agree that the way they charge contractors is unfair, and their screening also sounds fishy. I think the site may be worth it for contractors who don't live in very populated areas. Thx for the video!

  • If their screening process sounds fishy, doesn't that negate their mission?

  • Yeah, I guess so :). Just thought I'd share a consumer's perspective.

  • hey I am advertising with service magic! Is there a website you know about where I can bid for projects? I do plumbing.

  • I don't know, their are plenty of ways to get work. Things are very slow out their right now but I'm very busy and servicemagic had nothing to do with it. Be creative, that's what your in busines for. Your hard work and creativity can only lead to your success. God, I can't imagine how any busines survived before servicemagic!

  • you're right about that --> God, I can't imagine how any busines survived before servicemagic!
