i totally agree with you. in my opinion, mk is far better than the meagre 27th he was voted in the Rolling Stones top 100 guiatists of all time. i also think that his music will last far longer than a lot of the pretty boring stuff u get these days. he is a living legend, and i think he has been so under-rated and relatively unappreciated throughout his life.

I agree, definitely better than 27th. I've always rated him as superior to Clapton or Cobain. He knows a guitar's limits inside out and his tunes are inspiring and evocative. I still can't pick my No 1 favourite from either his Dire Straits years or his solo career, but this one comes very close, esp for the final verse and the music after it - always makes me smile!

I agree, Chet Atkins himself said "MK is a great guitarist and a person." It rings true too, see all the videos he and mark did together. Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Mark Knopfler, and Leo Kottke are pioneers and legends in the guitar world. Rolling Stones don't know what they are talking about.

If there's a more tasteful guitar player on the planet, I have yet to hear him. Mark Knopfler is an incredible musician and songwriter - as a guitar player myself, I'm in awe of his ability to hit notes that are indescribebly beautiful. Oh there may be players who are technically more proficient on the guitar -i.e. they can play 2,314 64th notes in 2 seconds, for example, but nobody constructs such beautiful solos as Mark.
