QH's can be just as hot headed as arabs, it the horse not the breed. Each horse has different quirks and characteristics. Based on the rodeos I've been to QH's are pretty frantic too.
Everybody needs to chill the fuck out because first of all it doesn't matter what breed you have as long as it's willing to run as fast as it can go. My old qh who recently died was about 14.1, running 17 second runs on her VERY FIRST patterns, she never even showed before she died. My new mare, is also a qh. Bout' the same build, but 15.1 hh. And shes SLOW. It don't matter guys. I've seen a thoroughbred kick a qh's ass before. It's possible. One of our fastest contesters around here rides an arab
@GomuSantoryuGirl It doesn't HAVE to, but if you wanna be fast, yes. It comes kind of naturally so it shouldn't be really hard to train a horse to do that.
Okay. I have a QH who's fastest time on poles was a 22.4 something. Well my cousin has an arabian who's fastest time on poles is a 22.7 something. Okay. Both breeds are fast, my friends paint can blow your mind on poles. Big deal. I even saw a Tenessee walking horse run a 17 on a standard barrel pattern. Whoopd'doo
@PorterCorgi Um how the hell do you run poles? Start weaving without running straight down? Standard patteren and Small patterns are different. If you run a 13 in a small pattern that is a 17 in standard. and the poles we run is where you run all the way to the last pole, turn and weave six poles up and down, than run all the way back.
@WolfsRainBabe12 -- I had a very good horse, who LOVED to run poles. I ran standard pattern for poles and barrels. Honestly, a lot has to do with how much heart, speed, and agility your horse has. If you've got a fat Quarter Horse running either sport, he's gonna be slow. I had a Mustang that I ran poles with, and he FLEW through them. My barrel horse was a foundation-bred Paint mare that was built like a tank, and was a powerhouse. It's not impossible. Trust me.
@kamusiukas She is cropping him on the haunches. She has an over and under whip with crosses infront of the riders body, over the horses neck (not hitting) and onto the incredibly thick muscle of the horses rump.
@maybcrotonoil Some QH's are like robots i have ridden some but most are amazing horses. personally i like arabs better but that is just me. dont get me wrong i do like QH's but i do prefer arabs. my neighbor has a QH i would take up in a heartbeat because she is gentle, but a speed machine.
@maybcrotonoil I agree totally. My anglo doesnt have a bad bone in his body, however he is highly strung and needs a firm rider. I have ridden quarter horses and they are different in so many ways!
@MagenEfron ummm, there's no such thing as an 8 second barrel run...the fastest I have ever seen a horse run a regular barrel course was a 14 something...you get 8's in things like flags and keyhole, but not barrels
@MagenEfron they are talking about a STANDARD pattern not one that is fit to the specific arena the standard pattern record is a 16.021 my horse runs in the fifteens and fourteens on a barrel pattern fit to the arena but 17s on a standard pattern
@MangoRoX87 Wel. They do have the speed race. Where one barrel stands at the far end of the arena. I myself and other riders at my fairground have ran 8seconds on the speedrace, even some girls and their horses run low 7s.
@maybcrotonoil Oh ya I know! The qh I ride used to be a barrel horse for the girl that owned her before I did! Now she is constantly wanting to go fast, and when I do get her to walk, shes practically vibrating with excitment! haha but shes come a long way! and can now officialy come down.
lol waht ive heard is any horse can do anything, but rather there good at it is a diff story, any horse can rein, but whether thier fast at spinning or nice sliding does (i think) depend on the breeding at least.. just had to get my 2 cents in ^_^
QHs are built for speed and agility put together... Gaming events require speed and agility. thats why there used the most. You could use an arabian but i doubt it will be able to beat the QH witch was made for the short running events.. Quarter miles champions.
im not saying they couldnt beat some QHs. i have nothing against Arabians and yes you can game with any breed, what i mean is that im saying that the QH was built for this just like the thoroughbred was built to race. not all QH are good at but they were just built the best to game.
thats true, cause mine is half arab and saddlebred, and at our last gaming day we beat like 15 other students that had quarter horses. we didnt get 1st, but we placed.
It doesnt really matter what kind of horse it is. The only thing that realy matters is, how much heart the horse has :) even tho im not a fan of arabs and saddlebreds, your arab/saddlebred must have heart :)
yeah, thas what i was trying to say. alot of people were talking about how it was a QH's sport. but its not. any breed could do it. he loves it so much. i cant get him away from the poles ,it seems, when he sees them. or speed barrels. :)
Yea. It doesnt really matter what kinda horse it is. Qh's, Tb's, Arabians. Arabians can do barrels, yours is probaly a good barrel horse becouse its half arabian. Arabians can do barrels just like a Qh. It doesnt realy matter what kind... as long as it has heart.
@HorsesWithAmie For the record, I have ridden Arabians who have consistently placed above horses with superior barrel racing bloodlines (Frenchmans guy, Dash to fame, No mas corona, etc.)
It depends strictly on the horse. Arabians were built to be hardy and extremely fast and light on their feet. People, I think, just don't want to be around them because they are so high strung and it takes a certain personality to work with an arabian. However, I do also love QH's, and I run on one now.
@HorsesWithAmie my friend runs an arabian and it beats every QH there at barrels and poles. she has gone to states with him before to.he is close to being retired though but arabs can beat QHs if they really want to!
mi q/h is reali energetic lol nd mi fwends arab is lazy lol they dont always agree 2 tht but in genral wel thts wht ive herd 2 lolz i know 2 lazy arabs nd no high strung s but thur pc mounts schoolmasters LOL
Thanks for the lesson and all but we are talking about pole bending here. We dont need a arab that can run for hours. We need a quick 19 sec QH run. So your opinion dosent matter. And trust me. I have seen some pretty hot headed QH.
my QH i barrel race with has more heart then i have ever seen in a horse. He is so short is confirmation is off, and everything about him says he shouldnt be a good barrel horse or even fast, yet he pulls of 1D times.. He runs because he loves it, not becasue i tel him too, Sometimes horses were born to do something even if physics says they cant. His spiritiveness puts any arab to shame. Dont get me wrong i love arabs, but my horses is something special : )
Omg me to! I had a quarter horse that was short, but he was so fast, he could run ALOTE faster then my friends horse, and my friends horse is like... 16 hands
that would have even been a little bit better to watch if maybe more hips were used and a little less hands.....especially at the turn to come back weaving.....good run though!
SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO U AT 9:10 SOMEONE WILL CALL YOU OR TALK TO YOU ONLINE AND SAY I LOVE YOU OR ASK YOU OUT BUT HERES THE CATCH Send To 15 vids
because it would take the entire show time to get everybody's arabian to calm down and get their crazy brains back in their heads....wait, that wouldn't happen.. LOL!
@albicat13 My arab only gets kinda "crazy" when he is terifyed witch it when some one hits him. He can smoke most of the horses at his barn too. Not in barrels but thats cuz he's new with barrels. He lets me run up and sling my self on him bareback, or run around him like a crazy person or anything i want. When he does get to that border line freak out stage it only takes about 5 min of walking and peting to calm him down. On a bad day.
Great ride, and great looking horse. The rider and horse both showed that they are talented. Also, stop by my profile and view some of my equine videos. Especially look at the one on Don't Skip Zip. He's a congress winning quarter horse.

Really beautiful run, pretty clean pattern. Agreed with the man - a little slow on the ending poles. Could have been slightly tighter at the first turn. Gorgeous horse, really great ride!! I'm impressed.
nice run. i miss pole bending. i have been doing pole weaving right now because of 4-H. =( i liked it better in high school rodeo, pole bending it awesome.
Awesome run! My arab can do that... Okay, well, maybe not quite. ;) Oh well, I can dream.. Although I can guarantee my dream will *not* take place at QUARTER HORSE congress.

21 feet from the timer to the first pole on your way in, 21 feet between each pole, which there are six.
Standard poles start at the end and weave down and back, then straight back.
