Jersey Shore is on the air because it's like a documentary. You can see the Guidos in their natural habitat without the expense and hassle of going to the Jersey Shore yourself. I wouldn't go to the Philippines to look at Mudskippers, and I wouldn't go to Seaside Heights to look at Guido trashbags. Mudskippers and Guidos on tv? I may take a peek.

Rap has been around for 30+ years, "New Rock" has sounded the same for 20 years - time for someone to get creative out there! At least in Finland, Nightwish crossed Goth metal with a female opera singer and created "Amaranth" which got 42 million video views here, maybe a step in the right direction...

Jersey Shore is on the air because it's like a documentary. You can see the Guidos in their natural habitat without the expense and hassle of going to the Jersey Shore yourself. I wouldn't go to the Philippines to look at Mudskippers, and I wouldn't go to Seaside Heights to look at Guido trashbags. Mudskippers and Guidos on tv? I may take a peek.

I agree completely. I think the exact same thing when I go to my classes at the University- I know back in the day college was this big thing that only the best and brightest had the chance to go to, and now it seems like absolutely anyone can get into college. I dread taking any 100 level classes because it's just a room full of recent high school graduates- naive kids that are oh so willing to be trendy. Most of them admit they're not there to really learn, just to get the degree. What a waste

I recently moved out of the US and am so happy. I don't have TV, I don't have to hear about pop culture, I don't have to run into as many idiots on a daily basis, etc. It is SO refreshing. I'm going home for a week at the end of the month and I have a feeling I might go crazy on someone.

A huge problem I have seen is simply a lack of common sense and problem solving skills. I work in a hotel at the front desk and to keep it short some of the calls I get just blow my mind. Not enough room for details here though.

Try living in Britain with the X-factor craze, the shit people call music now makes me sick.. and seeing as im 17 it's a lot worse with people I hang out with. Honestly the other day when talking about Pink Floyd a kid while watching a Bieber video (and enjoying it) said "Who the fuck are they? PINK floyd? they must be gay" ... cannot describe what i almost did to him xD

Insightful and witty, as always. 80s music and fashion may have been somewhat creative the first time around, but now its just a copy. Just like Jersey Shore is a recycle of Maury show themes. Rap has been around for 30+ years, "New Rock" has sounded the same for 20 years - time for someone to get creative out there! At least in Finland, Nightwish crossed Goth metal with a female opera singer and created "Amaranth" which got 42 million video views here, maybe a step in the right direction...

And for those who might point it out, I'm aware that Amaranth is sung by the new Nightwish singer who isn't as operatic as Tarja, their first singer.
