To the ignorant poster who was very eloquent in his/her critisism of Diana Soviero - try being a bit more constructive rather than plain rude.
Ms Soviero has a wonderful voice with acting skills to match. She sang over 100 times at the Met - not too shabby.Have you had a career in singing as good as that?
Besides Nucci, Hadley, and Soviero, I see Graves, Charles Anthony, Philip Cokorinos, and Alan Held. I am trying to remember the other man - is it Jeff Mattsey?
I absolutely hate that he did not leave us a studio record of Alfredo, Edgardo, Romeo or Pinkerton, among others. Around this time DG gave us Traviata w/ Pavarotti giving an OK Alfredo opposite--YAWN--Cheryl Studer. Not knocking Pav, I loved him in his prime, but look at the Hadley's polish, musicianship and beautiful tone, and you have to ask: What is WRONG with the record companies?
OK--done with my rant. Great singing here (by all--not to leave out Soviero or Nucci). Thanks MrCafiero!
HE HAD A BEAUTIFUL LYRIC TENOR IN HIS PRIME A NATIVE OF ILLINOIS AND THEN OF COURSE VOCAL TROUBLE LATER COMBINED WITH ALCOHOL AND DEPRESSION, IT's A TERRIBLE ILLNESS, OTHER SINGERS HAVE HAD IT BUT HIS GOT OUT OF CONTROL HE SANG WONDERFULLY WHEN I HEARD HIM AND WAS A WONDERFUL GUY FROM WHAT SINGERS WHO KNEW HIM TELL ME, REST IN PEACE, WE ALL MISS HIS VOICE AT IT's BEST BUT HAVE THESE RECORDINGS
Hadley reached his vocal height and success under the care of Tom LoMonaco. He voice in the1980's and early 90' was incredible. He was completely undeveloped in the 1970's, just coming out of college.
@MrCafiero He performed a concert at my college in the early 2000's and was absolutely brilliant--I remember being blown away by his acting and interpretation of the songs as well as his beautiful voice.
They are all wonderful singers. Most of us just dream of singing like this.
And Jerry was such a great singer live. I saw him live in concert about 5 times and all were divine. If I'd lived in NYC, I'd have spent an awful lot of $ going to see his operas.
God bless him and God bless all pro singers. Not at all an easy life. Yes, glorious at times, but so much WORK, travel, worry about your throat, illness...
The Brindisi can eat its heart out - this is my favorite part of being in the chorus of Traviata! The "ne desti'orror" part sounds Satanic and dramatic, and the last slow chorus is so gorgeous.
I saw him in concert in Dallas and it was great. I loved hearing this man sing. I hate that life became hard for him I think we think famous people are imune to criticism and other things and they are not. That is why I would to see all of us on YouTube who listen to these singers to think about what we write. They are human just like the rest of us. I hate that we have all become so critical of everything from opera, to movies, to politics to everything else.
He shot himself in the head with an air rifle about a month ago and died two weeks later, after they disconected the life support machines. My father worked with him in Amsterdam a couple ofyears ago and i reeber him being quite trange alrady back then. Shame he had a nice voice when he was young.
How sad. How very sad. While we enjoy these videos, Mr. Hadley lies near death, self inflicted. How very sad.
Those of you who admire him, track down his performance of Kurt Weil's MAHAGONNY. A great singer, a great talent - I am SO sad it had to end this way.
Well, it is time for a resurgence of great singing. Opera has been in a lull for quite sometime. We had Caruso, Destinn, Battistini, Ruffo etc., then a lull. Then we had DM, Corelli, Tebaldi, Callas, then another lull. Time for another high period!:):)
Who's the conductor?

Diana Soviero is a dumb SKANK HO who was a BAD imitation of Renato Scotto, who was a BAD imitation of the great Maria Callas. PATHETIC!

I am schoked to hear that he kill himself. I always like him I had two videos where he sings in Don Giovanni and Cosi at the MEt in the 90's.
I was not aware that his voice was deteriorating, how sad!
Listening here he sounds a little rush

feel sad for the lost. May he rest in peace.

Too bad Jerry felt the need to take his own life. Being an artist must be very tortureous at times.

You are so right. Being an artist can be a real bitch - especially when opera managements erroneously feel that one has outlived their usefullness.
