Secondly, it is democracies that give the UN real legitimacy, not states like the DRC. Thirdly, in the General Assembly, no hard law is made, just recommendations, so even if it were the case that because authoritarian states outnumber democratic states they have more influence, little would come of it.

So in the end, all the dictators and despots will have the louder "ayes" within the UN. It is required to be a "pussy" because if it weren't and trampled over international issues without respecting state sovereignty, then states would abandon the UN and stop lending it legitimacy, which would lead to its downfall. You are correct in what you write, but I just think the UN is a calculating organization, rather than a pussy organization.

@worldwanderer91 Simply not the case that dictatorships are more influential within the UN. First off, the UN was founded by powerful western democracies. Secondly, it is democracies that give the UN real legitimacy, not states like the DRC. Thirdly, in the General Assembly, no hard law is made, just recommendations, so even if it were the case that because authoritarian states outnumber democratic states they have more influence, little would come of it.

Membership is not imposed by the UN. It is a good platform for state relations and treaty creation. Not much to be afraid of.
