dude you can assign those lil x,y,z knobs to any parameter on any patch. read the manual yo! sorry i couldnt be arsed to read all these comments. good tips though, id like to see some ambient pads and drones you can come up with, keep with it! i like your style though its nice to just build a patch along with you and see how they turn out, keep it real
@cjsinister6 I only called it Dubstep wobble because the sound is known well in that genre of music. I'm well aware that this is not the best example of dubstep. It's just one sound though.
Synthesizers and pianos are the same thing. They both have keys. The illusion that they are different is because of all the weird things you can make come from a synthesizer just by touching a key, awing audiences and blinding them from the player actually being able to play the instrument. That's no excuse to suck. Keys are keys. You can actually play a synthesizer like a piano if you want to. That statement of yours pissed me off. Yes I'm mad.
@chadinterrupted The fact that you CAN play a synth like a piano is the key there. There are many different aspects, many different play styles to play ANY instrument. Just because someon'es playing something in a less respected style doesn't mean that they can't play their instrument in other styles.
Also, as far as "cookie cutter shit" goes. You don't ALWAYS listen to music for musical genius. Sometimes music can be JUST fun. Did you know that? Get the stick outta your ass.
@chadinterrupted I agree that there are people in the world that hide behind electronics that do the work for them. That's not the point of this video though. Dubstep wobbles are a popular thing currently. Thought I'd show the world how easy it is to make them with this little synth I have.
@MyphriendSam I'm just being cynical lol. I know what you meant buddy. Good luck with the piano. Oh and I'm just jealous you have a micron and i don't lol. I have a roland sh201 but it's incomplete without my favorite cute little micron monster.
@chadinterrupted Synths and pianos are not the same thing. Electric pianos and keyboards use sampled sounds. Synthesizers use oscillators to generate sound. Big difference.
@chadinterrupted No, It's understood. I generalized something in my video as a slip of the tongue, honestly. This video was 10 months ago, there have been other comments talking about it. At this point, no one cares.
@MyphriendSam no you didn't understand my point because you're focusing on something that wasn't even intended for anyone to focus on. and you do care or you wouldn't try to argue with me. synthesizers are like pianos because they have keys. i wasn't talking about the sound being generated. oh and not all synthesizers use the same mechanism to function. some are completely digital and don't do what you just said they do. and there are piano "synth" sounds so you're entirely wrong.
@chadinterrupted I hadn't even realized who said the last two comments, i thought you were still that justin kid tellin me that i was missing his point because the comment was sent to me and it's all sorts of confusing.. haha
That is why this is an "alesis micron" tutorial and not a "every synth in the world tutorial"
I honestly thought that justin kid had been commenting at my the whole time, so don't take offense, our comments weren't even aimed at each other.. haha
haha heck no amigo.... i mean you are hilarious haha... but i love those guys, btmh and woe is me and upon a burning body...i was at the of mice and men/ iwrestledabearonce show last night, it was bad ass
@MyphriendSam Oh i wasn't listening to the tut...thought i saw the bmth shirt so i clicked...im far beyond watching "tutorials" (no douchiness intended lol), just type in Spenca on youtube or google and see what pops up...lol
I resent the comment you make at around 1:22 ... that "playing synth" is just about pressing keys (apparently, at random) -- that isn't "playing" anything. No more than switching on a player piano would mean I'm "playing piano."
Travel back in time 30 years, and talk to anyone "playing synth" at the time ... I doubt any of them would share your sentiments with regard to its alleged ease.
That all said however, kudos to picking up a "real" instrument instead of endlessly relying on software
This synth is practically just for programming set ups and patterns. I have a real keyboard where I actually play things.
I resent the fact that you didn't take into consideration the type of synth I'm using and that it's literally got 3 Cs on it. barely any room to actually play anything.
@MyphriendSam The Micron: It is a virtual 'best of collection' for analog synth sounds. You have 3 whole octaves and 8 notes of polyphony. You are aware of what a miniMoog is right? ... or perhaps an Arp Odyssey? Your predecessors did a lot more, with a lot less. By relegating something as powerful as the Micron merely as a tool for "Just for programming set ups and patterns," you're really selling it short, IMO. Also, I repeat my statement: "programming" patterns and setups isn't "playing."
And I apologize for saying something that might have offended you as a fellow keyboardist. But I assure you I know what I'm doing. I use two synths at once live, don't exactly have four hands.
@MyphriendSam And I apologize if I came off sounding like a dick (lolinternetfight). I grew up listening to guys like Rick Wakeman and Keith Emerson, and to them (and to me) "playing synth" was (is) kind of a big deal. ^_^
if you link the lfo to the filter frequency in the mod section and then map the lfo speed to one of the black knobs, you can get a pretty good wobble. i used parabola bass myself, but it would probly work with any of them.
hmm are those presets that come with the alesis. ... to really learn how synths work the best way is to start from scratch ... with a basic sine wav or what not. get vsts like massive and fuck around till you understand how sound is routed to the lfos and filters.
Not too bad bro, but some more sounds and less talk would be good. The best vids let the demo do the talking. Some more close ups of what you are doing with the adjustments and stuff would be helpful. Also if you go audio in to the computer and turn off the microphone while you are playing you'll get a much better sound. Your quasi emo stylz are appreciated though. More wobble less babble but thanks.
i appreciate the tutorial. i bought a micron SE about a week ago, and have been dying to tweak out some dubfilth. thanks for the clarification.. i was trying to shape waves and LFO screw it, messed with filters. i didnt get any wobbles, but understand how the thing works pretty well now.. ha, i knew i could record the pitch wheel, idk why i didnt think about real-time effect from slider or knobs. thanks for the tutorial, mate.. need to work on the camera presence thing, for sure though.
synth isnt just randomly slaping notes and changing parameters blindly.. Fail!

@fuzzface89 Yeah, That's the beauty of synths! You can tweak practically everything.

synthesizers mimic sounds such as pianos and harpsichords and mimic things like techno and dubstep but poking keys on a micron is not dubstep.
