  • I always missed the skynyrd boys without ed king ... that was the best lineup to my ears .. not to take away from steve but skynyrd with Ed was magic that could never be recreated

  • Can you even call it lynyrd skynyrd today I mean with Gary the only past member

  • @dalet6363...fuck that give them all the untalented assholes today for ronnie back

  • No doubt. the best band ever

  • Ed, I hope you remember me. Butch Robinson - record (as a very old man) as Bond Robin

  • God. please give us Ronnie back and we'll give you justin bieber and lady gagga....2 for 1

  • Great video skynyrd all thae way

  • all these years later, I can watch this all day....thanks Tony, keep it goin'!!!!!!!

  • God bless Skynyrd they were a tight knit band.

  • No passengers in this band.... Three ( or four) of great yet different guitarists, a doubble kick drummer, lead bass, best rock and roll honky tonk piano player ever....oh and then there was Ronnie great leader and song writer and singer...RIP

  • Ive watched several interviews of band members talk about ronnie, but artimus pyle is the only one that ive seen, that gets emotional at some point every time he talks about ronnie, you can tell there's a lot of love and respect there.

  • Artimus really was (and is..) an underappreciated drummer. He really was pretty damn amazing. Had to be to support that three headed guitar monster.

  • @bughead3 yes very true!! And he still tours at his age carrying the torch for Ronnies songs...

  • The Allman brothers if they were to embrace redneck's backwardness.

  • Great !!!! Thanks !

  • Great work Tony...We need more...=)

  • @101Petercriss101 Vh1 wishes they had what we have on tape... Me and my partner Rick made this video and no one else, we did the interviews ourselves....you are just confusing the different videos of Skynyrd...this video is copyrighted by Tony Beazley and Rick Broyles and no one else!!!! Any use of this video outside of youtube will result in federal prosecution...etc...

  • ahhh petercriss I see youtube deleted your channel...whoops... ha!!

  • I love JoJo's laugh. RIP

  • I met Ed King at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few years ago. Class act all the way.

  • Once again, thanks Tony, for the videos. I enjoy your interviews very much! Wish you had a FB site that I could join! As mentioned in an earlier post, I would enjoy an interview with YOU to discuss how you felt doing these interviews! Take care!

  • @centuryboatfan How I felt was actually just in awe of sitting on the couch with some of these folks. It was just unreal to hear these stories for the first time while looking right into their eyes. My hair was always standing up on my arms and also my film partners arms too. Later after the interviews we were just like holy crap dude did you just hear what they said....it was incredible.

  • At least all the great spirit of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Ronnie was captured and is still

very present today and will live on forever..

  • ronnie van zant was awesome i love his music its just all soul and what he felt

  • RONNIE rest in peace. I love this band. Artimus did a great thing for the band, when he talked about RONNIE.I live in minnesota but, this is the music I was brought up on . You dont have to be born in the south, to LOVE and APRECIATE GREAT MUSIC. GOD BLESS THE BAND AND ALL THERE RABID FANS. THE GREATEST BAND EVER

  • Artimus is so right... ronnie dont need no flash light nor laser... just a mic and he'll rock...

    rest in peace..

  • Tony, I know you've heard this a million times before but I too have to say, terrific job documenting all of the history behind the band. You have gone above and beyond to ensure that all the facts stay intact from those important early days. When I hear Sweet Home being played, I ALWAY'S think of Ed. All of us realize how important it is to remember the contributions made by Ed and Bob Burns. They were part of the fabric that started it all. Well done Tony...well done!

  • man artimus is an amazing dude. i was jammin with him at a local show a few weekends back. amazing down to earth dude

  • Great video still Love Skynyrd thanks for posting.

  • Thanks Tony for ALL your videos.Gosh I wish they were all here now,it would be so interesting to see what it would be like.I love them all.IDK. Its 3:18 am & I'm listening to a loud pouring rain and thunder storm, feeling melancholy. I just wish October 20th 1977never happened. It sucks that everyone had to go thru what they had to go thru & it sucks what those that remained alive did to try to stay alive, pain-free.Life sucks sometimes but things happen for a reason.why this?I will never know..

  • @princesspinkfloyd Thank you very much Princess ...yeah we keep asking ourselves why? everyday....and the pain that the remaining members and crew are in today physical and mentally is just so bad....take care !

  • Hey! "Water and music... Jones Beach" he said. My neighborhood. I was just there last week. Good pick Ed.

  • Leslie, is one hot mamma, always has been. my favorite, i love her heart,

    she has one lucky man.

  • I think "Second Helping" is my favorite overall. It's where they let Ed King off the "leash" of playing bass with the return of Leon. Ed was not (IMO) a steller bass player at the time...but he surely was a hell of a guitarist. Notice that he wrote four of the eight songs, and does great work on the others.

  • I love the fact that you Tony included the 2 (at that time) surviving Honkettes in your interview. Leslie & JoJo look so beautiful, it was a treat to hear them speak about how they sang, what their inside structure was, who did and played what. Awesome video, so wonderful to see the girls of the band. R.I.P. Cassie & JoJo...Playing that great gig in the sky <3

  • @TonyBeazley -thank you so much for your videos. Skynyrd has been in my thoughts lately- You got some great stuff. I'm happy to see that you interviewed the 2 (at that time) surviving Honkettes, there is hardly anything out there on the web about them. I know that they were not considered "official" band mates, but they really were a part. I find it sad that they were not inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame w/Skynyrd. Cassie paid her dues. WTF is what I say!

  • This is so cool ... love hearing the 'inside scoop' on things from Ed King. Great vid

  • did you hear that sound at 2:34 ? It sounded like a Strawberry Alarm Clock . ha ha ha ha

  • Wow! Artie really nailed it regarding Ronnie. The man had the greatest stage presence of anyone I have ever seen without even moving outside a 10 foot radius. He had that confidence and that self esteem matched by no other. He put all of his emotions into every song he wrote and that's what made them so great.

Ronnie was very short in stature, but you never saw Ronnie wearing these tall stacked cowboy boots, he was happy with who he was.

  • @FloraBama

He normally went barefoot on most stages and he once said it was because he loved feeling the heat of the stage on the bottom of his feet!

  • Tony,

You and I both know that Ed was like the glue that held Skynyrd together in the early years. It was like havign so many great pieces, but then Ed was the clue that joined them together.

You could basically hear Ronnie's frustrations in his music after Ed left on the Gimme Back my Bullets LP as he knew they were missing Ed and the sad thing is he finally found the perfect replacement with Steve years later and Ronnie was once again excited and happy with the way things were again,

  • @FloraBama yeah bro Ed was the man who put Skynyrd on the map for good!!!

  • @TonyBeazley You are so correct on that..A fellow LA guy was the glue for the legendary southern rock band..Tony,love your channel,man...Peace from Los Angeles, Jim

  • @LBjim Thanks Jim for a kind compliment and watching the channel....Rock On bro!!!!

  • @LBjim .....LA is SOUTHERN CAL so its all good. Now if he was from SF, then it woulda been weird.

  • Great work Tony. Your devotion to LS is second to none. I'm about the same age of Ronnie and very few days go by that I don't lament that he's gone and I'm still around. .remembering their music. I've said it before but it bears repeating, HAD that lineup from '77 remained intact, LS would be in the same breath with the Beatles and the Stones in fame. Many, including me, think they already are. They were all brilliant musicians. We'll never forget them. Thanks Tony. Well done.

  • @kilts4u2 Thank you!! Yes they are even with the Beatles imo and bad ass.....very great musicians in Skynyrd and all that helped them out too....its one big family...the more you listen to Skynyrd the more you realize how damn great they were....just amazing....

  • @TonyBeazley I know I'm gonna like this for reading a few of these responces has clude me in. I'm 54 and hate to tell the world but I was a late L.S. bloomer. Hey! Better late than never. I love reading about this family of talent. I agree with your reply to "kilts4u2" and not so much imo just check what I see: R.C. spawn, 38 Special etc and still hanging. Love the Beatles but thier egos got in the way of OUR pleasure. Yea! Family. Now I'm gonna watch check in w/you in 10 min.

  • @kilts4u2 I'll take Skynyrd over the Beatles and Stones any day of the week. Thank you Tony for uploading all of these great videos. I can't get enough !!

  • Tony, did you film this video yourself? It's excellent, thanks for sharing it!!!

  • @bernardsdaughter Thanks!! Yes i did shoot this but my film partner set up all the interviews for us an asked the questions, there was probably 5 years in between these shoots actually,

  • @TonyBeazley Double Kudos to you and your partner. What a great opportunity and job well done!

  • @codymx3 I'm 28 and love all old music including skynyrd. This new crap does nothing for me

  • "music and water go well together"

  • @TennesseeRiverkeeper yeah what a great saying aint it... Ed is very keen on stuff like that.....his perception is what helped the band so much.

  • The World Over, it's all the same. Real Music transcends mere words! AMEN

  • @MetallicBill well said my friend!!!!!

  • Oh, Artimus how I miss Ronnie too. I was just a little girl when you all were out there playing & singing. I grew up with your music and it has stuck with me all of these years. I wish Ronnie were here today too, this country sure could use a lot of Ronnies right now. But I would settle for just one, oh why did you leave us?

  • @cschriock want one found one, im your man

lookup floormanofalabama my site before stupid you tube linked

to email logs me out every time.

  • ill never forget that day ,ever . freaking sad and unnecessary .

  • ..here right now" - so do we Artimus

  • May God bless Artimus Pyle!!!!!!!!

  • I heard one of the Honkettes was not on the flight because she dreamed the plane would crash. Any confirmation?

  • @fumetti That was JoJo, she dreammed the crash.

  • @fumetti Jo Jo was having a break from the band and you can see in the photos of the last coup[l;e of concerts that there are only two honkettes. She was going to rejoin the group later in the tour. She dreamt that the plane crashed and rang the band to try and stop them from getting on...

  • Man, do we need Ronnie today.

    Never be another like him.

  • Great stuff here Tony... I never get tired of hearing the "behind the scenes" stuff. I don't mean the junk and trash on whoever that most like to hear, I mean the music stuff... what inspired this or that. I sang gospel professionally for many years and met Sister VanZant at a church we were at in Jax in the 90's. She was buying CD's and stuff and wrote a check for it... when I saw her last name on the check I had to ask. She said... "yep, that's my boys". I'll never forget it.

  • Great to hear from Lesley & JoJo.

  • Great Video Tony; Fly High Freebirds!

  • @sportsroof Thank you!!!

  • They changed the way we listen to music and always from the heart .

  • band that changed feelings for all us wrote from the heart.

  • Great video -- I grew up with all these folks -- I played bass on the road with Jo Jo and Jimmy Dougherty in Alias and those times were sweet. RIP Pearly. I've been on the road now in China and Europe for several years with my own band and I just heard about Jo Jo, Jimmy and Billy all passing away. I can't believe it. Leslie -- If you see this then Hey from me darling. God Bless you all. . Steve Pratt

  • @TheSajanes Steve guess you're a good friend of Mabrys... I wished I couldve seen ya'll play...glad you stopped by to say hey....

  • @TonyBeazley Yeah Brian was one of our roadies back then. Was just lookin thru a box of old photos youre welcome to them. Just heard an old tape me, Leon and Billy made over at Leon's house in '78. Someday I oughta release that song I guess but I don't know anyone would be interested, so long ago now. On there you can hear Leon and Gary talking about the problem with Leon's arm that was still in a sling. Hard for me to listen to that tape without choking up even now.

  • @TheSajanes Wow man thats some awesome stuff on that tape I know it is! I talked to Brian today. Bet Brian would love to hear some of that....when you in Nashville?

  • @TonyBeazley Hey you tell ol' Brian I said hello! by God we were young and full of piss and vinegar back then 30 years ago now lol Send me your email if you can and we can go offline with this thing. Ya'll have to forgive me Im still kinda lame when it comes to the internet.

  • Ed King is great. He came up with some great stuff in Skynyrd. And yes, Gene has gotten a bum rap about the plane crash. He was Ronnies best friend and only trying to save his life by getting him up off of the floor and into a seat. He did what he thought he needed to do in a split second, and most anyone else would have done the same thing. I think that every seat but one or two was ripped out of the floor. Those pilots were idiots, and I cant say that I feel real bad that they were killed

  • Ritcheyrocker, Amylinnlevi, and Tony

Thanks for commenting on my question about Ronnie on the plane, was watching a documentary on James Dean and he was caught speeding earlier on his trip the day he died and I thought if he had'nt been stopped he would have been further along on this trip and may not have collided with the car that was to hit him. Things that happen are a matter of timing and unforeseen circumstances. 55slice i agree 1,000 percent Ronnie = genius - songwriting.

  • RIP Jo Jo

  • The band as a whole was extremely talented but Ronnie Van Zant was a true song writing genius. I would rate him right along with Dylan, Jagger/Richards, and Lennon/McCartney when it comes to penning tunes. Had he lived we would know the true genius of this man. Great vid, thanks.

  • @55slice Couldn't agree more...he truly wrote in his own voice. Wish he were still around.

  • Wow....awesome video's Tony. Have loved Skynyrd since i saw them on the Old Grey Whistle Test here in the UK around 1974. These video's are like a history of the band...filling in the gaps for the fans. Thank you so much. Rog

  • @rogbrunet You are welcome! So glad every digs the video...

  • Lynyrd Skynyrd's music sounds as good today as it ever did. Pure American southern rock with soul and real messages.

  • this is off topic a bit but i was wondering Did i hear/read right that when something was happening in the plane that Ronnie was sleeping and two guys in the plane woke him up and put him in his seat, he was not happy to be woken up, my question is if that had not happened and he had been left where he originally was in the plane that he may still be with us today

  • @CUDDLES55 wow-good point. sad but very good point, we will never know.

  • @CUDDLES55 Gene Odom woke him up and said get ready for it....

  • @CUDDLES55 its sad cause gene said he regrets that every day and has to live with thinking that he did that to ronnie but its not his fault

  • @ritcheyrocker no its not his fault at all...just a bad plane.

  • @TonyBeazley i know, thats just what i read in a book he wrote, i know genes a good guy, sorry if it sounded like i was blamin him

  • @ritcheyrocker no man you read into it wrong... it was just a bad plane... Ronnie would have been thrown into the same spot even if he was asleep...hell Gene was cussing the pilots out before they took off ,even

Allen was pissed off about it before they left.. NOBODY wanted to get on that plane...except Ronnie...

  • @TonyBeazley ya allen was goin to take a van or somethin but ronnie told him if its your time its your time

  • Great video. It's good to hear the stories. Thank you.

  • @daves441 Thank you Dave for watching the videos... :)

  • Excellent video. Artie was right---it is the heart and soul of Ronnie that still lives on. . The staccato coon dog wail of Allen's guitar; The hard driving triplets from Artie, who plays his bass pedal like hes flooring an old Chevy; the steady, underrated rythmof Leon Wilkerson, and Gary and Steve trading off solos without sparing a lick.Go get into your car on a hot summer evening, put on an old Skynyrd track and drive fast with the windows down. You'll get it.

  • @JohnR1130 Thank you.... turn it up!!! :)

  • ronnie van zant was the man rip to ronnie allen cassie steve leon billy and ean

  • Say what you will about Artimus Pyle, Lynyrd Skynyrd Band and fans but he is the biggest supporter of Ronnie Van Zant from any videos i have seen of him talking. Sounds like he shouts the loudest and proudest about Ronnie so cudos to you Artimus.

  • @CUDDLES55 AMEN bro!!!

  • @CUDDLES55 you are correct...Artie carries the torch for Ronnies song writing...

  • RIP JoJo.

  • Awesome video, Tony. Thankyou so much for posting it!

  • Awesome video!

  • When you bought a Lynyrd Skynyrd record every song was a hit! Just something about the chemistry that they had in the seventies! And not to mention.....One More From The Road! What an awesome vibe and sound for a live recording! Hard to top that! Thanks for your awesome videos Tony!

  • @acerocket77912 yep you are so right. Thanks for the great comments!!!!

  • Great vid. I'm older now (49). I didn't appreciate Skynyrd back in the day because I was pretty hung up and narrow minded about the kind of music I was into. I missed out on a lot. I'm catching up and I love Skynyrd! I've taken my 12 year old boys to see them. A real piece of American history.

  • @twinsmm1 Thanks for keeping the music alive for the next generation!!!!

  • would it be possible to interview ed and artimus at the same time sitting next to each other?that would be so great.im sure all the fans would love to see that.you have some great stuff here thanks tony!

  • @mrmetal99 Hey if I could ever get those guys together again I will do my best....I would love it!!!!

  • I love your videos! My all time favorite band, have seen them 50+ times. Thank you!!!

  • Leslie still looks friggin' cute!

  • @baptistrose yes she does!!!!!

  • love it man keep up the good work

  • Greetings from the UK, and thank you very much for uploading these priceless memories. LS were more than a match for anyone - Americas finest for sure. RIP Ronnie, Steve & Cassie.

  • @MacavitysCat You are most welcome! Thanks for the positive comment !

  • Tony great peice of history here, hugs, the Breeze, Marie :~)

  • @1139u2 thank ya sweetheart !!!

  • cool

  • Tony, please tell me when this footage will be released on dvd.

  • @Freebird10201977 Hi Zach...man I am trying so hard to get this out there...sorry its not happening as fast as I had planned..

  • @TonyBeazley It's all good brother. Take your time. Thanks for all of this, it's great.

  • Simply put - Ronnie Van Zant was, still is, and probably always will be the greatest American born songwriter rock has ever known. The man was a GENIUS and someone in Hollywood needs to do a movie about this LEGEND and expose him to the 'masses'.

  • Awesome video, would love to see more! Skynyrd is the greatest band of all time!

  • Very Good.

  • Tony u have done some amazing footage here on the tube. I would guesstimate that if you put together with SKYNARD a movie or even a documentary...You would make millions of adoring fans and even those of SKYNARD very happy and proud. Thx for your work.

  • @MrDjmacd - SKYNYRD. Not Skynard.

  • Tony,I'm with you and I'm so grateful for these pieces you've done. I was 11 when Ronnie, Steve and Cassie passed, and the reason I found this video is because I still can't live without them. I still wish someone would make a movie of the entire L.S. story. Peace Brother. -Hawk

  • thank you Hawk for the appreciation of the videos.....brother let me tell I'm first in line to shoot a full on movie about skynyrd after interviewing all the members and producers...just need some cash flow for it... I know it can be done for under $500,000...if its done my way.... I've already got a script....

  • @TonyBeazley Dude I gotta tell you, you're underestimating the material here. Ronnie is still the best songwriter this country has EVER produced and the strength, the depth and quality of this LEGEND needs to be exposed to a greater base. If you are serious let me know. I am a writer and have "incredible' inside sources in the band. I would love to do something. Just say the word.

  • @joediver1119 oh I'm very serious and I do know how important the songs Ronnie wrote or I would have not made these videos for the last 10 years......cause alot of people think Skynyrd only had 3 big songs....

  • Great channel

  • wow!!leslie hawkins looks like shes still in her thirties.....as much as i know about skynyrd if she were standing next to me in a store i wouldnt know it...i cant believe how young she still looks

  • yep she's a cutie!!!

  • @chrisw1287

one of my friends knows her and she told me that she was in the crash and that she had to have a ton of plastic surgery because of it, that was the main reason i click on here to see how she looked, but your right you can not even tell her age

  • Seeing this has just made my day. Thank you again for what you've put together on the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band--it is very much appreciated!

  • you are so welcome.....thanks for your nice comment...

  • Tony, GOSH i dont knwo what that guy is bitching about, I just love your work, GOSH how cool is ED King, A true master, HOW HOT is Leslie Hawkins, She has always been my Fav Honkett, She has a smoking hot motherly quality,

    Wow how great.

  • Cant stop there, Artimus, should have been the

press agent, he is an effective communicator

as well as one of my all time favorite drummers,

He has a classic sothern rock style.

I also love that JO JO is such a proponent

for Christ. Proud they are all well.

  • Say TonyBeazley,if you 're goin' to release

this on DVD Video then do so now or quit

waisting us fans time,we don't have time

to waste.Either realese or just move on.

How long do us fans got to wait to see

    this?

  • what more do you want to see? Gary will not do an interview with us...kinda sucks since he's the co founder of the band....dude I am trying..just can't do this by myself..

  • @TonyBeazley Thanks for putting all these clips up. I love all the great personalities in this band. Fascinating people, not the cookie cutter, boring "musicians" we have today.

  • art you still have it

  • yes he does....thanks!!!!

  • man i like that song called cotton mouth country, but i dont know if was put out on a album.

  • yes it was...forgot which one...

  • thanks again you are a true skynyrd fan..Jr

  • Get well soon Jo Jo. I am praying for you girl!

  • Sorry, accidently hit the wrong key and misspelled Artimus. I can't imagine much if any of todays music having such an impact on people, or the staying power. Young people today still relate to Skynyrd much like I did when I first heard Sweet Home Alabama. I wonder if Ronnie could have imagined that in 2010 their music would be much talked about and still very relative. Sad to say, many of these kids today have to listen to Lady GaGa.

  • i hate lady gaga ! im a skynyrd fan :) and im 17 :D

  • Thank goodness! keep up the good work NEXTGENSKYN, There's still hope for the world.

  • totaly ! :)

  • What a great video. Thanks. In 1977 in Charleston WV, on the front row with festival seating I stood along with four friends and watched the greatest collection of raw talent in the history of music. And just a few weeks later heard of the crash from a late night AM radio broadcast. I will never forget how I felt. And the next day seeing it confirmed by Walter Cronkite. I have seen videos of Atrimus, Jo Jo, and Ed, which I enjoy, but it is very cool to see Leslie Hawkins as well.

  • Thanks so much for posting these vids. Ronnie was a genius!

  • ronnie was a genius, they all were in their on right

  • just like a recipe ....alot of ingredients needed....not just one person ....but ed king did do soooooo much for skynyrd ....just wish steve gaines could have been around for alt least four more years.... there are more songs out there never heard that judy hasn't released ...

  • hell yeah, for sure, steve was way too wicked, i can go on for ever all day about these cats but thanks for the media..

  • By the way, I was born on Jan 9 which I share with the late-great Honkette, Cassie Gaines. They (Cassie/Jo-Jo/Leslie) were a great "back-up" act in their own right. Leslie Hawkins still looks great after all those years and nothing can (or ever will) replace those "originals" from the Street Survivor days circa. 1977.

  • I agree...nobody can replace that band from then...

  • If i'm not mistaken, sound travels much faster underwater. As King states, water and music "complement" one another. This band accomplished so much in such a short period of time. Between Pronounced and Street Survivors. I'll always respect that fact and the fact that this was one of the "Noblest" artists of all time. Thanks Tony for your contributions to the memory of this American Rock Act. They will always be remembered as among the best in their respected fields and were a true gift in life

  • Thank you as always for your nice compliments you give to me on my video work. I just want the public to know how really damn good Skynyrd band were with their music....

  • Fantastic!

  • FINALLY !!! So good to finally see and hear Leslie. It just seemed like she disappeared after October 20, 1977. So So Soooooo good to see her again. The Honkettes were an integral part of the Skynyrd story. Great to see Jo Jo and Leslie again.

  • Thanks Tony for posting this. I have been a lifelong Skynyrd fan and love hearing the stories about Ronnie. Please keep them coming. I love it.

  • Hey MrSkynyrd thank you for watching my work and the compliments...you are allways welcome on my channel..

  • Mr. Beazley, You are awesome! More with the Skynyrd stuff. I can't get enough of them.Ed King and Steve were very much alike in their playing. Leslie is still a honey isn't she?? She was my favorite Honkette.. and still is!! Jo-Jo came to a church here in Fort Mill awhile back and spoke. I heard about it afterward so I didn't get to see her. And Artimus is Artimus. Always on 10!! Keep em comin'!!!
