I can't get over how WHOLESOME and PURE they look. Completely covered up, and they still were considered sexy by us guys. The emphasis was on dancing and singing. there was never a need to be pornographic or provocative. what the heck happened to us?
Five Star rocked the 80s! They were, quite simply, the nuts! This tune is my favourite and still reminds me of school discos when the DJ actually played music instead of noise. If Five Star were to do a one-off concert in 2012 I know i'd be buying tickets. Quality, as was EVERYTHING from the 80s :)
@leewilla35 I agree with you. Even when they were singing about their hearts getting riped out. You wanted to dance to it. It was happier sound music.
Is there a better version of this anywhere on youtube? Video is choppy and looks to be out of sync with the sound (slightly) I mean, don't get me wrong, I appreciate you uploading this, but I'd rather watch a higher quality version if one exists.
Great group from the U.K. I had many of their extended dance singles in the 80's. Really well crafted songs and videos. Clean and clever. That's Five Star !
Classic! That Dracula dude is hilarious. I've always liked this vid because of its comedy aspect and of course, that incredible Five Star choreography.
I remember this video I used to like it because of the Dracula theme but this was the shhhh...I think I was like 8 when it came out but I still remember this!
@quietlady44 Maybe it was the other way round. Maybe M.J is the one that coped the moves. I was reading about Shalama the 70s/80s pop group and learned that their lead singer is actually the one who taught Michael and Janet the moonwalk. He even stated "we used to call it the backslide then". I guess Micheal was just more popular really.
The band consists of 5 black siblings, they produce funky pop/r'n'b tracks with the odd guitar riffs thrown in for good measure, they were managed by their father, and they even recorded part of 1 album at MJJ Studio.
Ummm....
I think it's safe to say it was them and not MJ that copied.
@ThePragmo It was Jeffrey Daniels from Shalamar. Although, he wasn't the groups main lead singer(Howard Hewitt), he did do some co-leads on several Shalamar hits. Jeffrey demonstrated the moonwalk in the late 70's with his personal dance troop that used to perform on shows such as; American Bandstand and Soul Trian.
@montey1 You're just being mean. The world - and individual artists who have a right to be - can do without comments like these. These artists to which you refer were living their lives and dreams much like you and I pursuing the richness to be found in our own lives - and much of that life to be lived has been done before and better by someone else too. Its just the nature of being in the human family and traveling down a long and winding road which allows for some genius and some variance
@montey1 I think ppl got the times mixed up. Today everybody imitates one another. You have to because radio programing playlist are so hard to get on. Back in these days if you sounded someone more than likely it was because you grew up inspired by the same artist. Michael came out of Motown his sound was hardly unique back then. All the artist you just listened more than likely grew up listening to Motown as well which affected the sound; its that simple.
Hit here in the states but didn't chart high. I always thought she was the Brittish counterpart of Janet Jackson. Great song-taped it off tv onto vhs.
i can actually see that, but 5ive star was influenced by michael, so perhaps it's a welcome gesture? i'm not sure of that, but the coincidences are pretty interesting here.
WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO GOOD MUSIC!! Most of today's music are just CRAP!!! While some of 'em are good, the majority of 'em today are just junk compared to THIS song!!
Thank you! everyday i'm hoping to hear some good music on the radio while at work and all i get are the same shitty crappy 20 songs over and over and over again. It's so f-ing commercialized it's really sad. Radio stations these days are just a big joke. Those days of great music are gone i'm affraid. Now we get thug, gang and skanks singing about shit that people can't relate to.
They were the u.k's answer to the jackson 5 and very popular to add, winning several awards for their music.......released an album in the early 90's but didn't break them in America as they had hoped.......
