7-8 months ago 28 laborers we cut down by a train. They were crossing the bridge some 70 feet long and when the train came they were not able to clear the track as the track was behind them and it was too late to do so. The driver was so horrified he wasn't even able to report this and the next train driver eventually did.

Getting hit by a train is about the dumbest way to get hurt or killed. It's not like you don't know where they will come from. Train tracks have always been a big hint for me personally. And it's not like they suddenly make a sharp turn into you. Also the very obvious and loud horns, flashing lights, bells and barriers at crossings. Yep, those damn trains just jump out of nowhere. No clue where one might show up. But, if stuck on tracks,... get out of the car!

I've been railroading my entire working career and I've trained and managed hundreds of others. Not many of us "get used to it" and no amount of "trauma leave" really helps if you are involved in a fatality with a human.

And I do indeed feel sorry for any of my "brothers" who have been through this. It isn't easy and often ends careers.

The gate landed on her wind shield and it would have clipped the front of her car but then she pulled forward at the last second as the other car across the track flagged her to go back. 5 teens died. Folks, there's another video of this incident taken from a camera inside the cab of the locomotive. It's moving at speed, so you have to stop the video just before impact. It shows that there were gates that were working & lowered, with the car on the left side of the crossing, meaning that the driver went around the lowered gates.This is clearly the driver's fault, & it's bad enough that he or she got killed, let alone the 4 passengers that had no control in the matter.
