So when he said he counted the floors of the building from the street and "one was missing"...does that mean that their very top floor (which they met and talked in, in this scene) was an otherwise inaccessible/hidden floor only for this guy's office to be in?
I just feel like pointing this out to people who say Wells should have done more. I think it all had to do with that phone ringing. Most of Chigurh's actions are based on what he feels is fate and our inability to escape it. Wells wasn't really meant to fight Chigurh, but he was meant to talk him out of it. He almost succeeds too, but then that phone rings. Now he no longer needs Wells and his next course of action is based on whoever was calling his Wells' hotel room. (Wish I had more space)
He was probably being a smartass, but many buildings in the U.S. do not label the 13th floor as 13 due to superstition; for instance, floor 20 is really floor 19.
@mistacramer Damn. That opened my world. I had to actually think that out lol. thnx. This movie is full of riddles, saying, and jut flat out mind Fuck things. Greatest movie ever made. I may go read the book. Thanks again
@GuardianAngel5150 Some folks are superstious & dont like a '13th' floor. Architects and building managers cater to that by not marking the 13th floor as 13. They will skip that number & label it 14 or something clever. Some architects will fit a "service level" into where the 13th floor would be. Get off the elevator there & you will find a bunch of water heaters, pumps, air conduits, electric pannels...
@Zubirrex You may be right in the context of the move. I'm guess I'm biased from reading the book, where it's explicitly implied they served together in Vietnam.
@Zubirrex understand that it is impossible to explicitly imply something. it's either explicitly stated or implied. it's like a dry drowning or the living dead - it's a contradiction, just like intelligence on youtube.
I agree with McLaren, I wish this character had played more of a roll in the movie. For being called on to take out Chigurh, he gives the impression that he is a pretty tough guy himself. He folded faster than a lawn chair under Rosie McDonnel when Chigurh showed up.
I think your right about he being a tenacious and sturdy character.I think given the chance,he would have been a challenge for Chigurh.But he was aware of the situation he was in;it was inevitable that Chigurh would kill him and he knew. Shame really,:).
@WileeC I didn't like that he got captured. A hitman would be street-wise enough to know that anyone who gets captured has no chance of living. Esp if such a hitman knows Chigurh so well.
@briantotse3 The irony of that is, that Moss actually had the drop on Chigurh. If he hadn't tried to escape the room and had instead stood and fought (as a Vietnam vet, he would have had military training), he may have actually been able to kill him.
@Psifonian2 Carson is a x-special forces colonel. Thats, the connection with Chigurh and Carson. Their both special forces and more than likely Nam vets as well.
@WileeC i agree. This guys Wells sounded like he had some crazy tactics of his own up his sleeve even vs Chigurh. Add to that he allows himself to be taken upstairs in public when Chigurh confronts him from behind in the stairs to his room. Any professional knows you have a better chance fighting right off than allowing yourself to be "taken" to another location. Still a good movie, but I agree they should've developed this character more even though the result wouldve been same.
@WileeC i think that would take the focus off of the other two guys battling,wich they didnt want.chigurh caught him in a vulnerable spot.just like he did everyone else.hes the incarnation of the "random crime" which the sheriff kept complaining about
@McLarenMercedes The whole movie is an inversion of what we are used to in most plots. We were expecting these two to have a big firefight, but were tossed a curveball.

elevator designers are superstitious and generally don't include a 13th floor. at least the older ones.

@GuardianAngel5150 maybe they didn't have a 13th floor.

@GuardianAngel5150 A lot of buildings go from floor 12 to floor 14. Thirteen remains an unlucky number for many reasons.
