@clytemnestre1 I agree the French version sounds much better, the music flows more easily, however it should be remembered Poulenc himself made the English version, advised and rehearsed with Sutherland and the other performers of the English premiere and even made some changes in the score (including a previously unwritten high note for Sutherland). So it's an "authentic" performance.

Only the real great artists take this role. Thank you for posting. This opera sounds very well too in the english lanquage. So remarcably. And t5hat for an opera from the 50 s.
Her greatest role ever. So Beautiful. So moving,,, RIP dear John.
