  • That blessed me. I'm happy he knows where his "roots" are. He has such a special gift. When I was finding my voice as a singer, that's when he released his first album. His style has influenced me so much, even as a female vocalist....I would LOVE to see if he did a gospel album in the future.

  • This is the song. I love this song. Keeps you motivated.

  • This is one of my favorite songs I sing it all the time. As a fan of John Legend I love his take on this song. It really blessed me to hear this

  • Love this Song!!! Sang John!!! I wont complain somebody is in worse condition than me!!

  • yeah this one always gets to me. but it's always on time.

  • This is my first solo song...i get a little tearly eyed when I hear it...

  • at 1:24 I start to cry all the time when I hear this.

  • Right on time, God is so GOOD!!!!

  • I won't complain. Yes Lord. Thank you J. Legend.

  • Some people have to have find negativity in everything. Instead of people being happy that he sung a gospel song on national television, they are hating. This song touched me and for all we know it could have led someone to Christ who watched it on television. I thought the most important thing was to spread the good news. By the way God sees us how were gonna be. He might change and sing gospel, stop looking at the past and present, and take a look at the future. Instead of criticizing, pray!

  • Straight GARBAGE!

  • @Sileni ill repeat it in bold letters this time because i think you missed what nairobiqueen said below you..... BEAUTIFUL!

  • @Schoolifer Beautifully BLAND!

  • beautiful

  • We are all Gods children. He loves us, but hate are sinfulness.

  • My favorite line is "I can't complain" I relate so much to this song. John's voice has such a soothing yet powerful sound. He is truly a light in the darkness. I hope that he continues to do the great music that he is known for.

  • best version of this classic in my opinion

  • @garnett4mvp8 really?? it was just a performance...no worship= no thanks.wow

  • @RyMuEntertainment lol it was his opinion...

  • @mcduffels well, you're right...lol. thnx for the revaluation.lol

  • @RyMuEntertainment for what it's worth, i think you're a real christian.

  • @mcduffels I'm trying...lol.I think John might actually mean what he's saying, but like many of us he stays on the surface of the water...lol. Christianity has depth and gospel music is just not something you can go half way on, it won't feel right....cute doesn't cut it! thnx

  • @RyMuEntertainment lol well obviously its best in a religous setting but the point is he did it very well

  • @garnett4mvp8 ok...lol. you said "best version" lol. I take it you don't listen too much religious music...I could get you you some pretty sick versions of this song. Then again, it is all up to your taste. Glad you diggin it though. Be blessed!

  • @RyMuEntertainment haha God bless you too man!

  • Awesome

  • Beautifully and wonderfully done!

  • I love this song! God is so good to me! More than this wolrd could ever be! Thank you Lord!

  • LOVE IT!

  • I WONT COMPLAIN.......

  • wish u r not complaining abt God and make ur own religion, Oprah.

  • I'm glad Oprah loves that song, now if she would just love Jesus...

  • This song is cool, even tho oprah is a false prophet

  • @daBIGboss7770..... I don't Oprah have EVER claimed to be a prophet! So how can she be a "false" one??

  • @ike60miles1 I think that he' s referring to the fact that Oprah started her own church based on her own set of principles and beliefs.. And she has a lot of followers. Check it out.

  • I love it!

  • he is not ANOINTED at all .sorry john i thought would have put more in it

  • @superstarvonhouston1 anointing is not a quality of what you hear..but what you spiritually feel. Everyone isn't moved by the same songs. Every song is not for everyone.

  • @aaronjason1 this is so true, when I was lost the Lord started directing me toward songs, and singers this was one of those songs.Sometime a softly sung song works wonders, and other time I need a song that shouts out to my soul.

  • oh snap go JOHN LEGEND

  • He's kills this song!!! Very melodic, beautiful, simplistic, and the thing w/ this song is that people feel the need to scream it rather than to sing it so we can actually here the words... This is awesome

  • Lord I love this song, and hearing John Legend sing it ads so much more to it.

  • amazing rendition

  • hes always been a smoOth singer....BUT LISTEN THOE....THERE'S A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN being ANNOINTED AND HAVING A TALENT

  • nooo karen clack sheard did the best

  • He did great but I was waiting on him to just hit it and right when I thought he was..he toned it down! It was still nice though...John has major talent! Gotta love him! :)

  • stevie wonder did the best!

  • 48 people must be atheist.

  • I'm glad he doesn't sing Gospel bc it doesn't fit his voice. Regardless I still love me some John Legend, glad he has positive direction too!

  • @MusiqueIzMyLyfe you crazy

  • Gospel is a good place to be rooted becuz all else can fail but you can always go back to the ROCK (Jesus)!

  • cuz they all grew up in church

  • i luv d way he did d song.........

  • It was ok but this song is meant to break u down but cool I guess he didn't kno the real words smh

  • Everytime i hear this it reminds me of my Uncle Jimmy! God Bless you and only God knows how much i miss you but you're safely in HIS arms now!

  • I see we have 46 complainers in the building... :)

  • @lucylulu1210 No, people that know actual Gospel different from butchering a classic!

  • Who are these people who dislike songs like this? Glorify God May Jesus Name Be Exalted Forever!!!!!!

  • loved it loved it ...love the song

  • Nice spin on the song

  • He did really well singing this song. Most people over sing this song. My favorite version by far!

  • He didn't show out bad enough....this song isn't meant to be sung in a cool manner such as this....but OK job I guess...

  • Love the way he sings and I love this song soooooooooo much!

  • I am not an Oprah fan, but I like this song John Legend sang.

  • Anointing and talent are 2 different things. Im not saying he does not have an anointing, but theres a difference. A talent can touch your emotions but after the song is done the feeling is gone. but with the anointing its soul changing, bring you to the Lord.

  • @Hfb500I agree 100% with you..God helps those who help us alll with...Blessings...Christopher

  • @Hfb500 AMEN!!! Many Many Gifted & Talented people in the world, but VERY FEW ANOINTED ones! GOD uses The Anointing to Destroy the Yoke of Bondage & will change your whole Life Forever! Thats POWERFUL!

  • No anointing but beautiful voice. The anointing destroys the yolk.

  • @ApostolicPsalmist No anointing, what so ever! I felt nothing, but he tried....

  • @MaBreeze100 yeah, child it just goes to show talent and anointing do NOT go hand in hand.

  • @ApostolicPsalmist Now, I listened to Fantasia sing "He's Done Enough" whoooo I was bout ready to cut my step. i dont know why she playing, knowing God a hold on her. She ought to do a gospel album with her hollering self.

  • @MaBreeze100 I know that's right! She is so set apart and tries as hard as she can to be like the world!

  • @ApostolicPsalmist fuck anointing this nigga can sing

  • @ApostolicPsalmist AMEN!!! I was waiting for the "POWER" in his voice, but not there :( There are Many "Gifted" people in this world, but...Romans 11:29 "For the gifts and calling of God [are] without repentance." Its Only the "ANOINTING" that Destroys the Yoke of Bondage, and that Anointing is GOD's Approval on his Vessel that HE uses in this sin-sick world! I was Raised by an Anointed Grandmama so i know *lol*! GOD Bless U!

  • @MrsD7777 Yes, Yes! Some don't like it but the truth is the truth!

  • This was my Grandma's favorite song. RIP.

  • Good job ,but doesn't compare to BISHOP WILLEM C. ABNEY'S version

  • He is a very talented person but he "performed" this song. It doesn't seem like he "SANG" the song with any conviction. But he still sounds good ..just ......missing something.

  • I believe this song was orignally wrote by Don Johnson but was made famous by the late Rev Paul Jones type in his name with song title on this site and then you will see how it is suppose to be sung

  • @comhigh Oh Yessss! I remember Rev Paul Jones tore this song Uuuuupppp!!!!

  • @MrsD7777 Yes he (Rev Jones) did!!!

  • song is written by Don Johnson of Memphis TN search i cant complain Don Johnson

    @clancymamou @kelikel2

  • beautifl rendition

  • Awesome

  • its funny how them diehard R&B singers John Legend, Fantasia, Jasmine Sullivan, Jennifer Hudson ect can KILL some gospel at any given time!

  • @mradkins2011

    Church breed.

  • @mradkins2011 that because they can help it lol The God In Them Just Spills Out.... God is so good like that... cause even when they sing secular, it just screams gospel.

  • @mradkins2011 I ain't complaining but i wish he knew the words. LOL

  • @mradkins2011 ITS BECAUSE MOST OF THEM CAME UP IN THE CHURCH

  • @mradkins2011

That's because the majority of these R&B singers roots are gospel!

  • @mradkins2011 Too true,... anointed is anointed

  • It's hard not to cry when you listen this song.

  • ITS ALL ABOUT BEING ABLE TO SEE GODS FAITHFULLNESS IN OUR LIVES.LETS BE THANKFULL.

  • yu betta sag dat songg....

  • mr. legend is the greatest at bringing that soulful feeling out of the music

  • i went to the church where he used to play.

  • John should've kept going....

  • Is that a new verse!!? "I ask the Lord to see them go"???

  • No annoiting

  • BEST VERSION IVE HEARD YET!

  • 40 people are complaining

  • Such an amazing contemporary artist. I'm glad I get to be around to see more of what he sings...

  • you are so simple but so powerful, man......great perfomance- deeply touching....congrats!!!!

  • i don't want to sound like a party pooper but sometimes when things go wrong, they just go wrong. When you feel like shit, it's almost impossible to change your feelings or keep the difficult ones bottled up.They're going to creep up to the surface.

  • VERY WELL SONG.

  • heyyyyyyyyyyy!!! singgg boyyyyyyyyy!!! he really needs to become a gospel singerr!!!!! his voice would go perfect!!!!!

  • ide love to have his baby :)

  • makes me cry everytime

  • He was singing to casually. This song should be song with emotion and conviction.

  • we own nothing in this world.God only loans us things. the glory that is given to the creator which IS God is all we can hope to obtain. we are but vessels for his message ,in this case this song, to be delivered through. the writers of The Holy Word didn't do so for fame or glory, but only that a message from God would be delivered through them. i don't know where we as modern people get off thinking we own anything or that we deserve money for speaking Gods word or singing His praise

  • am blown away by this! My late uncle, Rev. Paul Jones is the creator of the deeply inspirational song and everyone and there mother has been triying to make it thier own since he was murded back in 1990....left this world before he could get the copyrights to it. My grandmother has yet to see a penny of ANY dues from her son's work. Just a shame how people can claim to be Christians and yet find it in their hearts to capitalize off something that the true creator will never get due credit for.

  • @clancymamou You say your Uncle is the creator of "The" deeply inspirational song or "This" deeply inspirational song? At any rate, "This" particular song was written by Bishop William Abney, late Pastor of a church in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

  • @clancymamou Sorry to disappoint tou but I've ben reliably informed that Bishop Abney created this song originally..he is the uncle of the Debarge Family( on the Mother's side).

  • his voice is so beautiful and soulful

  • The way he plays on here reminds me of Fred Rogers from Mr. Rogers Neighborhood...

  • Thank you for posting this song sung by Legend! What an AWESOME God we serve!

  • Goping through some very trying times at present...but this song inspires immensely...thank you..

  • he can make the piano talk!!!!!!

  • i just have question for the believers who feel compelled to judge (I've been there so i'm not judging you). But i ask, doing your dark days, the days when you admit you'd made a mistake or didn't do what God asked of you, did that make God any less real? Can God only use us when we think we ae in order and living right? Is He limited by our sin? Can't he use anyone to touch others and either heal them or bring them to Christ? Isn't He able? Just sayin. Be blessed.

  • Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.Colossians 3:16

John should make a gospel album that would be awesome

  • Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.Colossians 3:16

  • For the wanna be Bible scholars on here thts tryin to judge this man, The Bible say "for all have sinned and fallen short to the glory of God" Who are you to judge this man for his acts....The Bible also says " For he that is without sin cast the first stone"....Im tired of "US" church people trying to look down on others even when we did the samething or something even worse......Before you ever question somebody else faith, salvation, check your own!!!! Coming from a believers heart!!

  • like the way he song it

  • In these last few weeks I have tried to change some thing. Stepping back from the table in a sense to look my life over and find ways to better myself. I heard this song over a year ago just surfing YouTube and last night as I laid troubled over financial givens it came to mind and as much as I know the devil is working to weaken me I will remain strong and commited to serving God and maintaining my life in a more pleasing way that others may see that with God I can't COMPLAIN.

  • I really dont like when people use the term "secular" no, he's not a gospel singer nor is he praying 24/7 but then again, who is? There is a big difference in being religious and having a relationship with God. All the people who have a true relationship with God & takes things for what they are, realize that this man was worshiping Jesus on LIVE TV!! No ones perfect, Lord knows I'm not, but I strive 4 excellence and I just want 2 please Jesus. I mess up but that doesnt take away how i feel.

  • @bcraig89 well said!

  • john dont play~ go back to you to your roots be yourself.

  • I just looked up this singer because I saw him on Oprah - then I looked at his other videos to the right and saw one titled "John Legend boner on stage" and yes, he is "grinding" a woman sexually in front of an audience. Hmmm Gospel singer? What kind of man who respects the bible would think that that kind of behavor is O.K. with God? Yes, I know that I'm not without sin either, but I don't believe it is okay to be a PUBLIC FIGURE demonstrating his dedication to both God and Satan.

  • @monticae calm the fuck down

  • @monticae Most people in church are going to bust hell wide open! Judge not. You don't know his heart.

  • @monticae he's not a gospel singer and even if he was he's a man first!!!! judge not lest ye be judge!!!!!! and what rock do u live under when u dont know how john legend is?!!! hahha

  • 38 people can't appreciate good quality music

  • you better put that john legend tune to it lol

  • beautiful song, and love the way he sings it...

  • John Legend should have asked Oprah which god did he want him to sing to since she says Jesus is not the only way.

  • Work out bro!

  • amen, amen and AMEN!

  • amen, amen and AMEN!

  • he aint take them to church like he should have...

  • @whitfieldmusic1 well, just pray for him. maybe you should sing and take us to church with a response video. the church is the body of christ. the people are the church, not the building. you should have more than a sunday ministry. your walk and your talk should be your church. so get inspired and do something that will last forever. he was just being a reminder. now you do something and remind us about God,

  • lord i send this song out to my daughter and her grandmother clem.

  • i won't complain .My life is so wonderful right now

  • Anytime I listen to this song, I can't but really remember what God has brought me through. Tears just roll down my eyes. God has been sooooooo gooooood to me.

  • @saintphillip amen!!!!god is gonna test us 2 see how strong our faith is...we gotta hold on to faith..if we dnt have faith then we dnt have god in our life..having god in my life is the best gift i could ever receive

  • @keanna26 Faith without works is dead...Blessings..Christopher

  • Comment removed

  • @saintphillip if this makes u cry u wouln't want to go to the church he played @

  • @saintphillip me 2!

  • Yes...I agree @divanique22

  • im absolutely speechless..nothing but tears streaming down my face. Because I know the Lord has been by my side since day 1 before I even got to know Him. And this song is my testimony! and i cant help but to praise Him through it all because regardless of what Ive been through I cant and wont complain because I am blessed beyond measure thank you Lord!

  • I love when ppl makes songs their own. Loving the smooth, mellowness of his version. This just shows that all the hollering doenst have to be done to get the message of this song across!!!

  • I dont care how many people sing this song in their own version, this song always leave me teary eyed.

  • @divanique22 me too my sister, and i am a man

  • God has been so good to me. More than this world can ever be. I just say thank You Lord. (tears, just tears).

  • he has no emotion if u sing a song like this u suppose to put all ur emotion in it

  • @sds2007wsu I have to respectfully disagree with you.I feel his heart in this song in the way he approaches every note and every chord progression. He doesn't have to yell and scrawl to be expressive.

  • sing john

  • I was sooo touched when i saw this on Oprah that time! This is STILL my absolute favorite rendition. :O)

  • Fabolous performance. I can see him making a gospel cd

Also, check out EG Bradley on youtube singing Dear God. The performance is

    AMAZING
