  • For when a driver ignores the rules of the road, have a penny ready. I did - lobbed it at a car that sped across a zebra crossing while I was starting to cross it. Aim: make the driver annoyed (they probably think their car is damaged) so they'll stop and you can have a go at them. Crossing patrols (lollipop men and women) should be allowed to throw objects at cars, due the amount of times drivers ignore the law and go straight through the crossing patrols - as illegal as going through red light

  • This is Woodley shopping centre in Berkshire.

  • Brilliant!! They should show this ad today! So many drivers these days are so impatient and go on amber and even rev their engines at pedestrians, the boy racers and the like.

  • @Feisty1967 its simple enough if they rev there engine, give them your swear fingers.

  • Did they have pelican crosses during World War II then?

  • This was actually fimed in December 1976 - a couple of days before Christmas, in Woodley, Berkshire.

  • nowadays bad drivers will only stop if a 12 gauge is pointing at em!

  • so has nobody else noticed that they were magically transported 30 years into the future ? the nazi invaders were in the white beamer presumably :)

  • History being made here. Corporal Jones for once isn't shouting 'don't panic' despite the agression shown by Hodges!

  • @LostinMemoryLane with Hodges, Jones would be more likely to get angry and say "They don't like it up 'em!"

  • This is quality lol ;-)

  • This was filmed in the summer of 1976 in Woodley, nr Reading, I was 8 and watched it being filmed. They put the crossing in for the filming then took it down the following week! Matter - it was a dead end!

  • Found out- 1964 suprisingly!

  • No. Traffic signals in 1964 were still the old type with the stripey poles. This is from some time in the 70s.

  • lol, so much better than some of the one's they use now.

  • What year was this made?

  • I don't think anyone knows for sure gundog... however the advert was used when these "pelican" crossings were first introduced on British roads... Wikipedia says they were introduced in 1969... this is when Dads Army was relatively new and very popular so I'd say 1969 or 1970... it's also interesting that in this clip it shows Bill Pertwee and Edward Sinclair apparently wearing modern seatbelts not appropriate for the vehicle they are in .. but who cares ;-D

  • lol, that is a great advert, they should use it today.

  • yeah, they could but the trouble is that we don't have flashing amber lights anymore

  • Ummm, yes we do. Maybe not everywhere, but they're still about.

  • in aus their not,it's just like all lights

  • @ArmyMen333 you get the odd one here and there.
