there are some movies that should never be touched....this one, and The Pink Panther movies. They can never be replicated, let alone improved upon. James Mason's take in this was peerless.I tend to agree that this version verges on soft porn. IMHO.

@PinkieCottonCandy Nabokov's screenplay, Sellars as Quilty, the wit, the genius of the original puts this pompous inane soft core crap to shame. Read the goddamned book! It's not set in the fuckin south--that's so wrong it makes me puke--and not in sultry hazy focus heat and James Mason is Humbert. Irons is just Irons. This version is regarded by everyone, even the director and actors, as an embarrassment. Kitsch. Read the book. It's funny. It's a metaphor. It's not teenaged snot like this.

@jblacktree Actually, I've read it like.. 8 times maybe? And I really got the whole case. It's just my personal opinion. And how the heck can you say that it's regarded by everyone as an embarrassment? :D Really, I think Kubrick did amazing job with A Clockwork Orange but I just love Lyne's Lolita! It's just how someone defines a ''Lolita'' to him/herself and I see it through Lyne's eyes. So try to deal with it : ) : )
