  • so much fun

  • 2 sentences...for a 4 minute aria...amazing

  • i think that this rendition is cold and technique... i prefer women to sing these arias, they can add more coloraturas and expression.

  • @Erikk91 whereas I just love it as it is :)

  • The score says violetta. Is that another way of saying "viola" or is it a diffrent instrument from the baroque perhaps?

  • the bassoon.......

  • Thank you Jaroussky. Pls, out this orchestra and kill the bassoonist.

  • WOW, thanks so much for putting the whole score (all the parts) of this piece! It's much fuller than a piano-vocal score alone :)

  • James Bowman sings it better. Jaroussky's voice is a little light here.

I love him, sometimes he makes me cry, but here that's really not one of his best performances.

Was Jarousski angeht - er klingt hübsch.

  • Such an Angelic voice, i really enjoyed this, however the Bassoonist is awful....jeeez

  • the best venti turbini on youtube

  • you are correct sir!

  • Jaroussky is so good! But the orchestra is so BAD!!!!!!! Can't play the instruments, really awful - there's no justification for this nowadays!

  • it's not quite awful,

that bassoon line is so difficult and this has been taken slightly faster than usual.

  • Yes I agree, the orchestra sucks! Their melismi are not clear and crisp.

It sounds like the bassoonist is farting instead of adding a crisp unique sound to the orchestra. The orchestra is just legato, through the whole piece and sloppy, and undynamic.

    What does it mean?

  • The text, translation and more info are in the video description, if you care to read.

  • I listened to so much Jaroussky yesterday, I dreamed about him. But he was not a world renounced countertenor, but a chef ;)

  • God I love this man!

  • Listening to Jaroussky's "venti, turbini" right after Ewa Podles' almost made me laugh, not because his performance was laughable by any means, but the contrast between the two was so extreme. His voice here is so boyish and fruity and totally lacks power even though his coloratura is fabulous. I heard him live, and he sounded much fuller than he does here. Anyway, I would prefer as Rinaldo someone somewhere in the middle in terms of vocal heft, like Genaux or Daniels.

  • Same, I really can't help but laugh, the contrast is simply comical. But a real castrato would sound more like a boy than a booming alto...and the idea of "power" in the voice is rather a modern idea...after all, baroque opera is very effeminate. Can you imagine the lanky soft-faced castratos singing on stage as heroes in armor? Its rather entertaining.

Though yes, Vivica G sans too-much-tremolo is my choice of Rinaldo.

(J'aimerais l'entendre).

  • Thank you for posting this! This was great.

    chris....

  • that's TCE version right ? Will you believe me if I tell you I was THERE ? Ok I'm bragging but it's like one of the only concert i've been to so i can for once :p

  • Yes, it is the TCE version, and I had to cut the sound file short at the end because you applauded too soon, hehe. ;)

  • LOL :)

  • If you have the whole version, check sorge nel petto. Now this is a magistral aria done by dominique visse, for which the applause were DEFINITELY way too early, both timewise and also atmosphere wise. The audience that night was terrible.

And no, it wasn't me. Moo.

  • I was kidding, of course. ;)

Just listened to the aria: now, that's early! Hehe. I also have a recording of Agnès Mellon singing a long lamento, with applause in the middle of it!

Ah, this habit to make some horrible noise at the end of a beautiful piece...

  • Nooooon?

  • Dont tell me you didnt see that on youtube yet ? You're pulling my leg uh ? Ok just in case : watch?v=bmYRQWYlDbM ;) (et je precise que j'y etais pas hein huhu j'ai juste vu la video sur youtube)

  • I'm not a big fan of this music, so I had missed that one, hehe. She tried to calm them down a little: be quiet, please, we're not done yet. ;)

Once, I went to a see a very good quartet play four works. There were many young people in the little Italian-style theater. They applauded at the end of every movement, hehe. The performers were looking at each other, smiling.
